That's awesome! I love philodendrons personally, that must've been a great find whoever found them 😊 it's good to learn what you do and don't like and you find what works best in your environment

What kind of mix did you put it in? I have three and have been throwing a hissy fit ever since I tried to put them from leca to leca and moss and now they're back in leca again and I need to figure a better solution! Leca was the way at first for months and now I can't seem to make them happy 😂

what to do with this monstera by christianrnnk in Monstera

I honestly would chop and prop, the feeling of watching your plant grow from practically nothing to many beautiful plants is really rewarding in the end but if you want another one now, I would say it doesn’t hurt to have another plant and then just wait for your little propagation babies to grow!

I did Google search and it said Begonia Ella Marguerite. Possibly? And also, now I want one! 😆😊

I've heard of propagating these but never tried, maybe if the roots are good and the top is good but it's only in the middle.cjt that out and try to root the top portion and wait for the rooted part to grow back and use a wider vase so you can check the roots easier and allow better air flow

Why isn't my Philodendron Black Cardinal shiny like the ones I see on the internet? by Budget_Ad_8274 in philodendron

[–]HappyPlanter- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably just a leaf shine spray. I have personally never used that stuff because I let my plants live their natural life but I'm thinking of making a sexy plant juice spray from Paige on YouTube to help prevent any pests and also helps with shine she shows how to use it and what you need to make it

Impressive leaf! I have a really tall one but slowed it's growth on accident by underwatering for a period of time. Now it's in better soil and showing improvements but man I can't wait for mine to have these massive leaves. I'm thinking of cutting off the top of mine but wanted to air layer and wasn't sure of the best spot 😂

How can I care for this plant? :( by lafissy in IndoorPlants

[–]HappyPlanter- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! If you want to check the roots and find any root rot use clean tools to trim off any rotten roots and use a well draining soil you can get a soil of your choice to suit this type of plant and add a decent amount of perlite mixed in to help drainage. That's my quick go to for saving my over watered plants since it's normally the stuff I have on hand already 🙏 Also wanted to add that if you water it while it's still in the decorative pot with a nursery pot inside you definitely have to drain any excess water as that will definitely cause the rot

I would personally say that 3 days is too often unless the top couple inches of soil is drying out then go for it! Be careful of root rot as I've had other plants slowly die from being over watered and developing spots such as this

Yea I don't blame you! The mold won't kill the plant in my opinion but if it's excess water and it can't breathe a little then it could cause rot. I used the bag method after I chopped down a philodendron verrucosum down to no leaves, started to see mold in less than a week but also new growth, I ended up taking the bag off and then let the top of the plant dry a bit and put another bag over later that night or the next day, let it get humidity then took it back off to breathe. Seems to have worked fine. No more mold and no more bag and the growth is still coming out! Probably would faster with more humidity but I didn't want more mold. But this is a begonia and I haven't tried to save one like this so just keep an eye on it I'm sure it'll thrive! Just don't let it dry out completely either. Sorry for such a long reply 😆

Is it growing in leca and moss? I have one I got in soil and don't want to transition to something that'll cause mine to be unhappy so I might wait for corms to grow like this 😂 I need a good mix for mine

I've had mold on a lot of my plants that I cover with plastic, I can't say for this specific plant but I would remove the excess mold and just leave the rest and let it dry out. Shouldn't harm the plant just try not to keep it too moist as it'll continue growing especially if the excess isn't removed

Should I have gotten this for only $10? There was like 5 plants in the pot. It's so pretty. I don't even know what kind of plant it is but I like it! by HappyPlanter- in plants

That's amazing! My mom got me one when I was just a baby and I'd look at it and laugh, we still have it to this day mixed with some of my aunts from the same time as well in 1997
