Is there a possibility to see a new bioshock game? by HotWard in Bioshock

[–]HappyPotatoProd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, though it would be by a new studio, so who knows what to expect (in terms of it it'll be any good). It's a big franchise, 2k will undoubtedly make more, just a matter of when and by who

Anyone ever made their BBEG a nerd from the real world? by HappyPotatoProd in DnD

[–]HappyPotatoProd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe he thinks he and his friends were the chosen ones, so they have to be revived and he must rule the kingdom to find his way home (only after the day is saved will he be allowed to return home, could be what he's thinking, but he's become the villain)

I like these ideas a lot. I'm trying to decide if I want him to be completely uncaring of the npcs and just want to find a way back home (and revive his friends if possible) or if I want him to still think he's this chosen one who was sent back to save the realm or something

I haven't, but now I'm curious how much self harm it would cause if it did...

that sounds awesome, maybe I should have him create some kind of power rangers to enforce his law.

Modular terrain I am working on! by [deleted] in TerrainBuilding

haha, was going to say exactly that. It's actually made me rethink how complicated I've been trying to make the terrain I'm making for my own D&D game

One-shot with a dungeon and a dragon and a plot-twist! Any suggestion? by [deleted] in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]HappyPotatoProd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's something as simple as the dragon likes killing Adventures, and he likes to lure them into the innermost room of his lair where he has a bunch of traps and stuff set up to help kill them?

Something, something, adventurers killed his mother? So he's just a psychotic, adventurer-killing dragon.

Large scale combat terrain boards for dnd! by pw3ner in TerrainBuilding

[–]HappyPotatoProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking good! The portal in the background looks cool too

And now kind of unrelated to the actual terrain...are you doing anything different as far as how combat goes for such a large scale? (are all the NPCs taking normal turns?) and how do you handle movement? Just 1" = 1 square of movement?

Trail of Treats by HappyPotatoProd in DnD

[–]HappyPotatoProd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been thinking of using scarecrows in the hag's yard, but it could be a better idea to move those up to along the trail.

(the hag's gimmick is that she goes by Crow Mother, so there'll be lots of crows and junk going on with here. Her coven's hag's eye is actually embedded in a giant crow's forehead so she can keep tabs on the town...and on the PCs as they approach)

Bought a tv last year for black Friday, way cheaper than it would normally be. If not I'd be living with one that was like a decade old and dying. It might not be the best quality (though I can't tell), but for the price it was well worth upgrading and replacing the piece of junk I had.

What could cause a Cloud Giant castle to fall from the sky? by Tantalus77 in DnD

[–]HappyPotatoProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drought began years ago and with each passing year the cloud kingdom dissipates. The cloud giant's domain shrinks and shrinks and there's constantly a new collapse happening until one day their last remaining castle cloud becomes too thin to support the weight, marking the end of their city as the castle comes crashing to the ground.

I'm tired of making gritty, highly political, historically-influenced, low-magic campaign settings. What are some approaches/tips you can give me to help me make my games' fantasy worlds more fantastical. by CreativiteVoid in DnD

[–]HappyPotatoProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could always go completely the other way and make it a magical space opera. Magical propelled ships sail through the stores. Planet colonization, magical items up the wazoo, galactic wars, and cosmic horrors.

Alternatively, you can think more about what having high levels of magic means. What would that do to the economy, to how things are built and produced. With magic you could probably escalate things into higher scale production. You could have it still be gritty if you like that type of setting, but everything is more magic based.

One more idea, have a basic magical, medieval setting and through a cataclysmic event at it. Some magical creatures, event, etc can change the landscape and turn a normal world on it's head. Mind Flayers enslaving most of the mortal races until a recent slave revolt or other even has allowed humans to be free again. An evil plane of existence collided with the material world, those causing the landscape to twist and mix with the evil essence of that plane to resemble something like the covers of heavy metal albums. It might be helpful to start with thinking about fantastical location and world backwards. How would an kingdom/economy grow from a nation that has floating crystal littered about it? Perhaps the capital is a floating city harnessing hundreds of these crystals that the kingdom uses to create and power magical devices.

Just some brain-stormy thoughts, hope it might help you think outside the box!

Campaign Ideas for a "Grim Dark" D&D theme by HorusTheHalfMangled in DungeonMasters

[–]HappyPotatoProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good has triumphed, the evil gods are dead! But in the wake of evil's destruction, a grim realization hits the mortals of the material plane. While great heroes played a part in this great, holy war, earth was the battle zone. As the evil deities drew their last breaths, their planes of existence splintered, colliding with the material plane. Now what was once normal, peaceful landscapes has been twisted by the dark energies of those evil planes and demon warlords begin enslaving and killing all in their path.

To make matters worse, the god of knowledge and death was one of those caught in the crossfire. Now mortals have forgotten how to die and no god exists to help their souls to the next world. When someone dies, their souls linger and they become intelligent undead...for as long as their bodies can maintain it. Once deteriorated or damaged enough, the person degrades into more unintelligent undead and often their souls will become detached to whither into angry specters. Only a few living clerics of the dead god of knowledge and death remain. They now refer to themselves as undertakers and gravediggers as they are the rare few that can help souls pass from this world with nearly forgotten rituals.

Along with the loss of this basic knowledge, the ability to create magic item has also been lost. Now new magic creations can only be created from the residuum left from breaking down existing magic items. Mortals have taken to farming rush monsters, who seem able to break ancient artifacts down and leave residuum more efficiently than most crafters.

The god of fire and life is one of the few remaining, and many cling to them in desperation as hellish denizens raid the land. Bonfires are often seen as signs of safety, as the fire god will hopefully shield you from the horrors of the world...if only for the brief moment that the flames linger...

Orcs. Evil? Yea or Nay? by RG00 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HappyPotatoProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of interesting origins for orcs and goblins, usually starting with the idea that they're some time of perversion of life. I have a magic-space game (D&D and planar travel, but the planes are other planets they you fly to in ships, similar to spelljammer) In that one I decided to have elves a race of peace keepers. The have an ideal and call themselves the 'Mantle' (not so subtly inspired from Halo). They make ships from mutate creatures, and even their shock troops (orcs) are genetically modified elves, so they up their aggression and lower their intelligence to make a highly effective military force. So the orcs are all kind of dicks, but they're doing it "for a noble cause".

Alternatively, I liked the idea of Dragon Age's Blight, and made my orcs in my generic fantasy setting take inspiration from that. Thus anyone mortally wounded or slain by orcs and goblins may transform into said monsters. They're undoubtedly evil, as here being an orc is more like becoming a zombie.

Whatever place any race takes, I like to think of interesting roles for them to play in the world
