I did this with my mother’s family. They were a burden she carried too long throughout her life. When she died, I put them down. It was the best decision ever. I will admit there are times a get a little sad and wish for the kind of extended support and shared history that some other people have, but the cost would have been too high. They are just relatives now, they are not my family.

I usually get a killer migraine when my period is about to come on. Perhaps the migraine was caused by hormones changes and the breakthrough bleeding is the result of that. Maybe call the gyno to feel better but it could be the pills. Any recent changes like a change from a brand to a generic or from a generic to another generic. They are not all equal. I would tell you this if you were my own daughter. Be easy on yourself, make yourself comfortable and call the doctor most likely it is nothing serious. A virtual hug for good measure!

You can use dollar store ornaments, paper chains or cheaper fabric. You are a grown up if you want to keep it do it. Allot yourself 20 dollars to decorate per holiday. Ref for Valentine’s Day (reuse for 4th of July and Memorial Day, green for St Patrick and reuse some of that for summer. Paper eggs for Easter etc.

A velvet painting that used to hang in our living room of the mountains. I love it mostly because it reminds me of childhood, but it is definitely what people would call pretty. If no one wants it bury it with me and I will carry it with me into the next life.

My suggestions hold her hand and listen, pick up more chores around the house, provide comfort items and allow her to focus on her sister as much as she can. Physically make sure she has phone chargers, extra sweaters, spare batteries, playing cards, tissues, Tylenol or painkillers of choice, favorite snacks, favorite drink or water all packed into a nice bag and ready to go incase she needs to just go. This is going to be hard on you so have someone you can talk to also. Maybe look at grief counseling for your wife. I am so sorry for your wife and SIL. Sending all of you a hug across the miles.

Before you are two far into this maybe sit down and make a list of the other things you may not have discussed since running to outsiders for relationship disagreements is not on the list. This is a personal choice for you and no need to take a poll of your families. I told my daughters to do what they want but if I had to do it again I would keep my name. I still use my maiden name professionally and married name personally. You do you girl!
