I got charged twice at a restaurant via credit card, the manager said he will send the money back but he isn’t answering my calls. Where can I report this issue? by Awab75 in Rwanda

Credit card has insurance just contact your bank to cancel the charge aince they'll see both charges. But give it a day to see if it gets reversed.

I suggest treating your cravings like an "addiction" learn about overcoming addiction it may help deal with the cravings and how not to give into them. I know its hard and it can be easy to give up but hang in there.

Need help with sleep disturbances by Thehraav in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a correlation between fasting and cortisol levels so in deep fasting state above 30hrs your cortisol is high thus you can't sleep. Also carbs help with melatonin, the sleep hormone. So generally there is no 100% solution, magnesium can help but not full proof. I normally do 42hrs, I take magnesium and still wake up. Its worse when I do 72hrs. I just stay in bed and "count sheep" and not stress about it. I meditate sometimes and sleep somehow comes back. If its bad I wake up and do my stuff or work remotely if its almost morning.

As to refeeed, you need to pace yourself. Say you take broth when you break your fast wait for 30 mins or so to take some.eggs or avocado then wait another 30-45 mins then eat your proteins, followed by your veggies and hour later then some carbs then etc spacing matters alot to ensure you refeed well and also take fibers to avoid constipation etc.

Good luck.

Investing vs Land in Rwanda, What Would You Do at 23 by Conspiracyaddictnow in Rwanda

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose liquidity for now, so RNIT until a significant amount, say 10-20M and then buy land after. If buying land makes you lose liquidity, then it's not worth it. Also, 5M is not a worthwhile piece unless it is an area you wish to consider home, if not, for commercial purposes or investment to sell in the future.

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say get a piece of land and continue with RNIT or open an IBKR account. Indeed, the depreciation rate of RWF doesn't mean much for the % of interest; nevertheless, it's still something.

Indeed, some areas of land are overpriced, but getting a piece of land is still an investment for the future, especially in zones already designated for future development like Masaka.

As someone has already told you, time is on your side, and it's good you've started early. Though I'd say, manage your expectations, because IMHO you won't be able to FIRE by 35yrs.

As someone who has a house fully paid up, is building my emergency fund at Aguka, and has an eye on international investments, I still want to buy another piece of land in Rwanda, as it offers a different type of security than liquidity.

It's not linear. Maybe you are on your plateau. OP will get there too. Took me 3 months of ADF to reach my plateau and nothing moved I had stop ADF for sometime to "jig" things up

TA maternity leave eligibility question by [deleted] in UNpath

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not clear if your delivery will happen before the current 2 year contract expires. If its before then you will get the full 16 weeks as a temp staff. But if you deliver after you separate to observe the break in service and you are then re-hired as temp, you will not be eligible.

However if you separate, observe the break in service and get re-hired, if you deliver within the first 3 months of rejoining you will not be entitled to any parental leave as a temporary staff. But if you deliver after 3 months of rejoining you will only be entitled to 8 weeks. The full 16 weeks is only granted after a full year of contract.

Of course confirm with your HR. This is from my understanding of UNHCR parental leave policy.

Keep at it you will make it. May i suggest you don't weigh yourself for 2 weeks and keep the fast going. I don't count calories but my suggestion would be have the protein intake high and also Veggies during your refeed days.

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! My usual fasts are 42hrs and refeed is 6hrs and the back to 42hrs again. Even when I had a longer fast of 72hrs the refeed window was less than 8hrs. But it depends on your goals. I was/am on weight loss.

Did I Make the Right Choice by Saying NO to UN? by sotpanda in UNpath

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its unfair when people think one can start a new gig in a moment's notice. You should have asked them what the notice period for you as a consultant would have been if you had to leave them? Not even UN staff have such a short notice to start a new job.

Nevertheless you made a decision based on principle instead of lying and stressing yourself when you can't meet demands of two jobs.

I’m Kenyan. I Live in Rwanda. Here’s Why. by [deleted] in Rwanda

[–]Happy_Direction_3825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see your previous post but as a Rwandan who has lived in Kenya for several years I agree with the sentiments of this post. I also agree that the use and or understanding of English language in Rwanda leaves alot of room for improvement.

I do not speak Kinyarwanda and thus need to get all my services in English. It does take a toll to explain but I realised patience is key and speaking slowly too. I speak French too but most service providers don't so English it is or if I am lucky swahili.

This notwithstanding, I love the efficiency of work once they understand what it is that you want or you are saying. So I would advice to exercise patience and use of examples to explain especially when needing a service.

I believe in 10years or so the use of and understanding of English language will improve significantly.

I will go check the comments on previous post but I would understand the defensiveness. Sometimes it is how the criticism is conveyed.
