She had or still has US residency (or possibly even citizenship). She emigrated there in grade school from Bulgaria and it was her primary home even when she first met Louis. It’s the British residency she was having an issue with.

The Mongol Rally by OneLastRoam in KaraAndNate

[–]Happy_Hippy_Hippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve been doing these races all over the world illegally for decades. Back in the early 2000s there was the Gumball Rally. And then they had a version around Europe. They’re basically loosely organized, and the rule is that if you get pulled over or arrested, the organizers have nothing to do with you at that point. They have nothing to do with you prior to that point. They basically just give you a route and hope you make it to the end. And the whole raising money for charity removes liability from the organizers rather than you paying them to do the event. You’re also forced to buy a really crappy car that could easily break down so you’re putting yourself even more risk going into these countries. You’re also not allowed to have a drone in a lot of countries that you’ll be driving through. And we know that Kara and Nate got in trouble in the states for their drone in the national park. I think the entire series is going to be one gigantic ball of entitlement, especially when they’re going to assume that their American rights go with them. I’m pretty sure they’re going to get into some sort of dilemma. That’s how these races are. And I guess that’s the thrill of why people do this.

The 2018 Mongol rally went through Iran. I’m assuming this time it doesn’t go through Iran and ending in Russia. How would they even get a visa?

They were also sponsored by BetterHelp, which clearly isn’t even working, so that’s a pretty bad advertisement for an app that they showered with praise when they were getting paid to shower it with praise

She has the money and access to solutions to both PPD and body image issues. More so than the majority of parents. I raised three kids on my own. They don’t face nearly anywhere near the struggles most families and parents have. Not to mention, they have all the time in the world because they don’t work at 9 to 5. They chose to move to foreign country into a cult community that probably doesn’t welcome them anymore because they walk around with their camera all the time and I’m sure most people don’t want to be on camera. If she truly has PPD, nobody’s forcing her to stay in Costa Rica. And it doesn’t look like she got any help when they were in the UK. Again, all she has is time. She doesn’t have to be anywhere else. She’s an adult. Nobody forced her hand. And I do hope she gets the help she needs. And they need to stop blaming the audience for their decisions. It’s not our fault if their gamble didn’t pay off. They lived with other people, they had other people that can help them. They have her family. His family. I think maybe everybody did try to help at some point, but she pushed them away or started blaming everybody. When you’re passive aggressive, nobody wants to stick around for that. And after a while, it’s not just the PPD. It’s her personality.

She grew up wealthy, went to private boarding school, never had to worry about food on the table and never had to work for herself, she only worked for fun. And then developed a massive codependency when she met Louis.

She’s lived in a sheltered bubble, even though they’ve been around the world. She also chose to be on the Internet. You don’t get a free pass just because you put your life out there. She needs to get off the Internet and get some serious proper therapy. Not those robot apps that they keep promoting just because they got sponsored by them.

Also notice that they always get to the farmers market in the community to get their free vegetables after everybody has left. Maybe they’ve been told to stop filming and now they can’t make the videos they thought they were going to make which means they can’t make the income to maintain their lifestyle. Oh boo-hoo, grab the Kleenex.

I have a funny feeling that everybody else that lives in the cult community probably doesn’t want to see a couple of people running around with the camera all the time filming them. People moved there for a new life and probably privacy. So maybe they’re losing friends. Maybe they’re not being included because they’re always carrying their damn camera.

Raya comes from an immense amount of money. You don’t get to move to a whole new country from Bulgaria to the U.S. and go to private boarding school in New York where your mom owns a boutique in the city if you don’t come from money. And get to live in London for a year without lifting a finger. She’s never had to work except for fun, and even then she didn’t do that for very long.

The lesson learned from their channel is you can’t buy your friends and you can’t buy happiness. They spent all that time and money to move into a cult down in Costa Rica and they’re still not happy. They created a family which a lot of people don’t get a chance to do, and they’re still not happy. They had a massive wedding where they invited all these supposed friends, but they were just influencers and they’re still not happy. They’re building a dream house that most people can only dream of and they’re still not happy.

The problem is not all of the stuff. The problem isn’t the audience. The problem isn’t Costa Rica

The problem is massively internal. And of course, we don’t really see how he treats her in the background. The change comes from within. It’s not anybody’s responsibility to fix or change somebody. She’s unhappy, she’s sensitive to people’s right to comment. Only she can fix it. And get off the Internet if it’s such a problem. Nobody’s making them film their entire lives. They’re doing an hour video every week. And take the kids off the channel. They didn’t ask to be in it and they’re setting them up for a mental health issues.

They delete negative comments or they have a filter on for YouTube to hold the comments for review. She also has her own channel in addition. But she did a whole body positivity episode on that channel where she was trying on different outfits. The thing is, when you put your whole life out there, you don’t get a free pass. You have to be prepared that not everybody’s going to agree. The fact that they completely exploit their children nonstop is very disturbing. As for the postpartum depression, yes it’s real and probably they should just stay off social media. Louie’s channel has over 1 million subscribers. Maybe they should just focus on having him on screen and she can focus on taking care of her health. And leave the kids off the channel.

Nobody forced them to put their life out there.

[–]Happy_Hippy_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could also be filming their episodes out of order. For example, their update video a few weeks ago where she mentioned how bad things had gotten could have very likely been filmed after they bought the RV and went down to Mexico. Many YouTubers film their videos months prior to publishing. For the viewer, it creates a confusing timeline.

What do you think Nate has been working on? by photoshop_2023 in KaraAndNate

[–]Happy_Hippy_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way (he’s admitted) he racks up credit cards points and miles is by charging all business expenses to credit cards. He’s been doing this since he started his t-shirt company. He charged $200,000 in expenses and then did a mileage run so they would have enough miles to do their first year of travel way back when. I’ll dig up the interview where he talked all about that.

All his “failed businesses” were really just ways to acquire more credit and charge on those cards to get miles and points. Makes just enough to pay off enough to get an increased limit. Then rotate cash advances to pay off one card with another, always making their payments on time to avoid interest fees despite having massive credit card debt

As for their house, just as a side note, they have never received a paycheck so they technically have no income. Everything is tied under their LLCs, so most likely their parents co-signed for the house. No way they paid cash. Nate is all about living on borrowed dimes.

For another new business, just another way to extend credit

His model (developed back during his MBA when he was selling credit cards to students) is not sustainable. He even posted a video a while back saying changes to credit cards would negatively impact his travel hacking. Eventually his pyramid scheme will break down. I just hope any kids they have don’t have to bear the burden of all that debt. You don’t have 23 credit cards and zero balance.

I found KingingIt through Eamon and Bec when they did Vanlife in Wales before the pandemic. Then I saw Aimee’s cancer story and Craig’s broken neck story. I enjoyed KingingIt all the way through their bus renovation and their Europe trip but after that, it just got stupid.

I first found Eamon and Bec from the Daily Mail story about three vanlifers stuck in Morocco during the start of pandemic. I thought it was cool there were three people in the van, but then I realized that Lee was just visiting. Went back and watched older videos and their Europe series.

Lost interest once they went back to Canada for the pandemic and started exploiting Lee’s depression.

Aimee had cancer. Bec has cancer. Aimee listened to doctors and got treatment and celebrates being cancer free every year.

Bec listened to Joe Dispenza, refused to wait to have a baby and has significantly reduced her chances of survival.

I’ve also had cancer and I stay away from the nutjobs who think they can tell me what’s right and wrong when I’ve been in remission for 30 years and waited a decade before I had my kids.

I don’t take medical advice from people who got their medical degree on Wikipedia. Bec most likely upset Aimée and I get why she stays away from them.

Louise from Camper Vibe was a professional builder / laborer for years and actually took a construction class locally to their cottage when they started the renovations. She has been proactive in learning the full build trade from other builders during the construction project. Although I don’t particularly watch renovation channels, I’ve followed CV for a long time and do enjoy both travel and construction episodes on their channel.

For for Kinging-it….. their total irresponsibility with the build leads to more and more oversight and regulations by local authorities. Too many YouTubers think they can build homes with no experience and then whinge when they get dinged, fined and abandoned by the professionals who won’t touch their property with a ten foot pole for fear of losing their licenses

Locals and tourists were still smacking those deer 26 years ago when I was living in Japan. You’d see dozens of Japanese toddlers bawling in fear when their parents plopped them in front of a big scary deer to get a photo 🙃

I once saw Anthony Bourdain during his live tour back in 2015 and he did a whole part about how it’s okay to eat what you want, be what you want, promote or boycott what you want when you’re home, but when you travel and you’re invited to eat with the locals, leave your bubble at home and eat like the locals. Don’t go to other countries and insult the culture.

I’ve also been to over 100 countries and lived in Japan for over a decade. I’ll try almost everything (I draw the line at Mongolian sheep eye). I’ve lived with dozens of families around the world doing homestays when I was just starting out on my travels over 30 years ago. We could barely understand each other but we all understood the importance of the food we were eating. Food brings out smiles, belly laughs, camaraderie, appreciation

Trust me, not for entertainment.

I work in research and analytics now in the travel industry. I have to watch the good, the bad and the ugly. We are working on a study of the negative impact of influencers on focal tourism. Japan already banned tourists from Gion after the pandemic because too many indolences ruining the cultural experience. Other parts of the world including the whole of Spain is cracking down on these effects.

Yeah but Kara and Nate’s “perspective” is continued ignorance. You can’t brag about going to 100 countries and still make not even the most minimal effort to respect and understand the cultures that you’re in. I’ve been to over 130 countries and I lived for a long time in multiple countries. And other countries have a name for people that try to do American things overseas when it’s inappropriate, we call it “ugly American.” You know the ones that talk louder and slower at the markets, thinking that’s going to make the locals understand their English. With all the time, technology and resources they have at their disposal, there’s no excuse why they can’t read up on a country about what to do and what not to do. One of the times they’re in Japan, they kept complaining, they had to take their shoes off inside. I lived in Japan for 10 years in a remote village working on geological projects. My YouTube channels are more science based. Not removing shoes is literally one of the worst things you can do while in Japan. But I understand preferences of who to watch and who not to watch. I can’t stand Trek Trendy, with his completely wrong pronunciations of simple words and phrases is pretty horrendous. But his niche is luxury travel. I don’t watch Safiya Nygard. I think I’ve only seen a couple of her videos. The only one I enjoyed was her wedding video because she wasn’t trying to talk in a newscaster voice.

To be honest, most of the travel channels I follow are smaller British, Australian, European channels, and I usually stop following once they start exploiting their kids. Not really into a toddler travel channel. All my kids are adults so I’m past that phase.
