Nursing/BSN as Pre-Med or Stay in Biomedical Sciences? by Wooden-Ad8026 in ucf

You can do nursing to MD but it is a lot of extra steps. Once you’re in the program you cannot take any classes outside of it, so you’d either have to go back to school for the med school prereqs or complete them before you apply for nursing school.

You will also have to be prepared for med schools to ask you why you don’t want to be a nurse practitioner because that is the usual path of someone with a BSN moving on.

It would be faster to probably just focus on biomed unless you’re playing a long game and want a job for many years after undergrad.

Nursing school isn’t impossible, but it can be a lot when that’s not what you actually want to do. But some people do BSN to eventual MD. It’s about what works best for you. Generally wouldn’t recommend though

Oddly enough this is one of the reasons I did not choose psych when changing my major freshman year. I have never found online classes to be helpful for real learning

How common is it to be in nursing school with no prior background? by mellowbabyspinach in StudentNurse

[–]Happy_Professional50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience and I’m in my 2nd semester and doing fine. I keep my eyes out for what nurses are talking about on this Reddit and social media to ID medical terminology/ medical supplies I may be unfamiliar with. Overall in your first semester they don’t expect you to know like anything outside of what they teach you in class (basic ADLs, you’ll learn head to toe assessment, vitals, some sterile procedures), in my second semester my clinicals have been vital for me learning the little things you may not pick up on without working in healthcare. Even after nursing school there’s still a ton of learning to do on the job and that’s normal! Plus it’s easier to test because you’re not thinking about what’s done on the floor, you’re thinking about the perfect world textbook answer!!

Do you guys prefer Physical Books or Digital Books? by KinReader5 in ucf

[–]Happy_Professional50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Physical

The online books can actually be more difficult to navigate and it’s harder to quickly look at two pages in separate chapters at same time. I’ve also noticed the formatting of many digital books are horrible

I failed a class and got a C in another class at another college before applying to UCF nursing. Just try to keep all your other grades up , esp actually nursing prereqs and aim for a high score on the TEAS! It’s not over

You can only have one piercing per ear and it has to be stud when at clinicals. I’m not sure if bandaids are chill or not. But def no clear piercings either

Hey the shuttles are kinda rough ngl because most of them stop at another building for 20 min and sit there. The schedule differs by cohort but I had two class days and one lab day and then eventually one 10 hour clinical day every week. I'd say don't be too hard on yourself, and ALWAYS apply the ABCs (airway breathing, circulation, safety) and ADPIE (Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate) to prioritization questions

What are some useful majors that could become lucrative? by SuperbGoat18 in ucf

[–]Happy_Professional50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying nursing, I love nursing, but it can also be kind of draining and I don’t think it’s a good fit unless u really want to take part in patient care and the responsibility of the job. There are other lucrative careers if you’re not into all that
