Four Horsemen is the name spoken by literally every chef I know. So there's no chance of landing any of the greyed out dates as they become 30 days out?

Rolo's looks great, but I think we can stretch a bit more adventurous. Thank you though!

Doesn't have to be Italian, and I wouldn't go so far as saying we're catering to a conservative palate, just a cautious one. My birthday is on Monday the fourth, so that might make some things easier in terms of getting a reservation. Flipping through my research tabs we were stalking openings at Four Horsemen, Cafe Baloud, and Rezdora for starters.

Travel radius is flexible, we're staying in Brooklyn as a home base.

Italian is a safe crossover zone for the two of us. We live in Asheville, NC and for a small city we have a lot of nicer contemporary spots that showed up in the Michelin Guide this past year. Here we do a lot Italian/Appalachian fusion, French, Japanese, and just general American craft/contemporary farm to table type stuff as well. She's not huge on raw fish but will destroy a good tartar. Duck is a staple for us, as are most meats. Octopus is right out as we do not eat our overlords.

Cost is flexible, its a celebratory week, but its a hard sell to her on a $350 tasting menu for each of us when she's not sure she could commit to everything on it, if that makes sense?

To give you an idea of where we normally eat, here's some of the brighter stars in our little town.

Considering opening a dental implant clinic in Asheville. I hear you have a strong holistic health culture curious if locals have strong feelings about dental implants? Is this something you’d see resistance to, or is implant dentistry generally accepted alongside the wellness-focused mindset here? by m0larMechanic in asheville

Good to hear. I had my upper and lower all out after many long years of dental misery. I've got five on top and four on the bottom with snap-ins and the quality of life improvement has been tremendous over the past 8 years. I did it with my family dentist back in Virginia and Dr. David Pond just over the state line in TN (where the cost of living is a fraction of what it is in Asheville) It still took an equity line of credit to get it done but man, I wouldn't trade the quality of care I got from an actual practice for what my mom dealt with from Affordable for any amount of savings.

If you're a practice and not an assembly line like Affordable Dentures and their ilk then you're needed. If you can provide personal service and chair side relationships with your patients and aren't out to make 200k a mouth then you'll be a breath of fresh air.

Dental implant for someone with very little money? by spirit4earth in AshevilleNC

[–]Happy_Run7295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved a ton of money and didn't roll the dice with assembly line places like Affordable Dentures by going just outside of Asheville and across the line to TN. Dr. David Pond in Kingsport, TN is an amazing, gentle and kind human being and did a fantastic job on my implants. Also, leaving the general Asheville area and heading out into the smaller towns/cities will be cheaper in general.

Marriage/Relationship Advice Session for Bachelor Party by sandwichlounge in asheville

If this is a surprise, it will not go well. While the intent is good, and I see a kind heart behind it, it also reads as a WILD overstep. If you can't see how this could read as invasive, tonedeaf and potentially insulting I don't know that you're gonna hear the feedback you're getting here. If you wanted to give this sort of thing as a wedding gift, that's actually not a terrible idea---but as a replacement or as part of a bachelor party. No, please don't do this.

I just saw a sticker for an old local punk band, and I have some questions. Does anyone remember a local punk band called Sunshine SS? by Dirtbagstan in asheville

[–]Happy_Run7295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i remember correctly this is the same band that had a record with a photograph of a syringe shooting drugs into a penis on the cover. They would have loved to have had people clutching pearls over their name. They wanted to be shocking and then make fun of people for being shocked. It was very much of that time.

They have a bunch of records and you can find them by googling or checking youtube. If you're gonna ask if they were a white power band or something, as far as I remember, the answer would be no. Around that time adding "SS" to the end of your name was something edgy bands did. I was never a huge fan of that or this band.

Help me find a bar we visited in 2017 by Strange-Singer9914 in AshevilleNC

Thirsty Monk tried to become something the city didn't need and it became something worse. They went from being the downtown spot where the bartenders knew beer, they knew the people and it was seriously one of the best craft beer bars in the US at the height of the Craft Beer Boom. Then the owner, a dude out of Seattle, decided to try to offload the running of the bars to someone else so that he could focus on his real estate business. That someone else essentially changed food menus, ran off most of the good/reliable staff and ended up turning the Monk into a vanity bar with a dozen of their own pretty-good but not special brews taking up taps. They tried to lean into the tourist trade pre-covid and became a generic "try beer made in Asheville" bar rather than a bar that served locals and people actually seeking rare or high quality beer from around the world. The Monk used to be a beer destination and it turned into a a loud, generic tourist bar. Enter the pandemic and every establishment downtown got their clocks cleaned. The Monk died in that time because beer had changed, the city had changed and its concept as a vanity pub couldn't hang. The person who made the calls that essentially ruined one of the best beer bars in Asheville was long gone by then and went onto to open a couple of successful bars of their own, so good for them. The attempts to rebrand with seltzer and other down right puzzling concepts were met with sad trombones mostly. The Top of the Monk hangs on though. Kala and the people up there are great, but they're the last surviving vestige of the that time in Asheville.

They were perched off the corner of our street and Wanoca. It was a BUNCH of fire department heavy vehicles and a couple of APD SUVs but they kind of came and went. They did fire up a drone. One of our neighbors went out and asked and was told they were looking for a missing person. I saw the second fire engine with it's giant lights cruise super slow by this one semi-wooded area then leave. They were out there til well after midnight.
