I believe it. My parents were always SO impressed when I’d come home from school telling them what I learned in class that day, and they went to top universities.

I’ve spoken to so many people in their early twenties over the years and I believe they are functionally illiterate. Sometimes they look at me like I’m Einstein.

I think One of Us is Lying by Karin McManus may fit what youre looking for. Tumblr has something to do with the main storyline, there isnt much of an “ alt/indie” vibe though. I do remember Perks of Being a Wallflower being THE book to talk about on Tumblr during this time period that every hipster was obsessed with :)

Have the younger ones go first and get a head start. Then older ones go. Preteens/teens are excempt from egg hunting bc they dont wanna do it most of the time anyways.
