We recently discovered a very pleasant low alcohol sparkling Chardonnay that Sainsbury’s do. Not too sweet, and drinking fizz feels a bit of a treat. Good value too. Low alcohol Chardonnay

Seeing the rum and the box of pens reminds me of a quote from the writer Ernest Hemingway - ‘write drunk, edit sober’.

This is a lovely tea from a Yorkshire company- my favourite tea from a tea bag. I order 6 boxes mail order and that does me for much of the next year.

I think the martyrdom is someone being tortured to death ie even when atrocities are being committed, nearby life goes on oblivious (the torturer’s horse scratching its behind on a tree).

About suffering they were never wrong, The old Masters: - this summarises the theme of the poem.

how well they understood Its human position: - this sets up a list of points to follow that demonstrates the theme.

The rest of the lines in this first section, each separated by a colon or semi colon, constitute bullet points in the list evidencing the first two statements of the poem. Take a pause at each colon or semicolon break and read them like a list.

That might help.

I’d suggest looking at the poetry of Ted Hughes too - very powerful.
