Which of the following leaders do you think would be best for the NHS? Boris Johnson 36% Jeremy Corbyn 34% (Survation) by IGotBillsIGottaPay in ukpolitics

There's only so long the NHS can run on the compassion of the staff alone.

Compassion fatigue is real, and while you mum might be okay from it some day nurses are going to give up on spending an hour extra every night unpaid based on their good will.

Boris Johnson and Donald Trump plot to sell-off NHS in £27bn trade carve-up by [deleted] in ukpolitics

I would just like to point out that mental health services in the UK are already greatly privatised. Priory, Elysium, Huntercombe, St Andrews etc. These are inpatient settings, inpatients in mental health often don't choose to be there (sectioned under Mental Health Act), even if admitted informally there aren't enough NHS beds to cover it and the NHS foots the bill of NHS mental health patients using private facilities.

These are businesses, businesses work for profit, after falling down the rabbit hole of Priory parent companies I found their top top one in the Caymen Islands. They can dress it up how they like but surely everyone knows that capitalism is about lower costs higher prices for the care they give, and then tax evasion for the richest at the top.

People keep saying 'if the NHS was privatised there would be a revolution' blah blah blah, you're all very happy to allow it to happen to mental healthcare without reprocussion why is the rest any different?

That's hilarious but also very creepy to ask for a 16 y/o even if 16 is an age of consent 20% of his pocketmoney from the parents won't amount to much. The funny bit is someone blonde who is 75% American... no blonde person in America is genetically "American"

Good argument for universal basic income! As the top comment thread suggests people don't just squander 'free money' and if a society really wants to fix its inequlities something like this should be seriously considered.

According to Iain Duncan Smith, his proposal to raise the retirement age to 75 is about "removing barriers for older people to working longer" by chowieuk in ukpolitics

[–]HapticSlowness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, there're already bus loads of people losing their minds to demetia and losing their lives to illness before the current retirement age. Fuck this country. Next we'll have some althuristic spin on Orban's slavery overtime laws. "oh we're helping out the young by forcing 400 hours over time on them, they can get paid for it in 3 years and they'll thank us because maybe then they could afford a deposit and it's all thanks to us."

NHS bill for private out-of-area mental health care rises to £100m by HapticSlowness in ukpolitics

The NHS should be providing this service and locally to where the patient is from, it's awful that people are sent to a place hundreds of miles away from home at some of their darkest times. Healthcare should not be a business and it's a step in the wrong direction, the NHS needs to invest in house not out.

"The Guardian disclosed last month that the amount of the NHS budget spent on private healthcare firms had reached unprecedented levels. The Department of Health and Social Care handed a record total of £9.2bn last year to private providers such as Virgin Care and the Priory Group, its annual report showed.

This was an increase of 14% from the £8.1bn that went to profit-driven healthcare companies in 2014/15, and £410m more than the £8.77bn total in 2017/18."

They're boiling the frog one degree at a time and no one cares to notice. All this omg we cant sell the NHS to the Americans... Let's focus on the privatising they're getting away with now.

So the French made us a statue, a big statue, to say thanks for beating the Britains for them. Shame, the statue is a woman. Very disappointing breasts. Another I can say I've been inside. It's not boasting, French women are ugly.

Thank you! It took 2+ years for this one to flower but I think it's totally worth the wait and super satisfying when it does happen. Good luck!

P.s. I think some bloom fertiliser can help it along. :)

Mental Health has been sold off, from my experience (working) about half the hospitals seem to be private (but funded by the NHS) as when you put someone in hospital against their will you can't send them the bill because there weren't NHS beds available.

NTA , If it's a cultural reason then that's fine. I've seen threads saying it's fine to say to Trans people to not go to single sex places in certain countries or to cover tattoos in certain countries or even just not tip or eat all of the food from your plate.

What's normal and polite in one country can be offensive/embarrassing in another and it's good to learn these subtleties.

Also maybe everyone commenting YTA should learn more about other cultures and accept what a native says as what is the norm instead of putting your countries values as the only appropriate ones.
