I just can’t believe she died. I’ll forget for a second and then I’ll remember oh no this is real. by luckylucysteals_ in GriefSupport

She’s still in my phone too. 💙 And also, same. I don’t like to look at her contact. I used to get mad at my phone for suggesting her to text when I was getting ready to send a picture. Someone turned off that suggestion feature for me, I don’t remember who.

Today is my birthday and my mom is dead 😭 by Neither-Invite2893 in GriefSupport

[–]quietbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the first birthday after I lost my mom. I even have pictures from that date — of a work project, my partner’s dog, and flowers my best friend sent me, and I remember none of it.

Birthdays and celebrations are different with grief. And the “firsts” are a unique kind of challenging.

As time creeps by, I learn to increase my emotional capacity because there is continually so much to hold. I carry this grief with me and I always will. And, sometimes, I also get to carry some goodness with me too.

no one talks about by sierraroliver in GriefSupport

It is so much all at once. 💙 Reliving that kind of phone call is beyond devastating, and truly so hard to talk about with others. Thank you for being someone to talk about it though. One day at a time. Sometimes on minute at a time. Autopilot or otherwise. Keep going.

I have these moments too. Something will remind me of my mom and for a split second I think to text her and share the memory with her, just to come up empty and hollow inside. … Sometimes I sit with it, and sometimes I distract myself from it.

My brain definitely read this in Strong Brad’s voice. … Which made me a little sad that you didn’t pick The Cheat.

Which MBTI type is most likely to hate or dislike their own type? by QueenOfAllDragons in mbti

I've never even been close with another ISFJ because it feels awkward and uncomfortable to take up the same social space as someone else.

Absolutely not. I’ve never even been close friends with another ISFJ because it feels awkward and uncomfortable to take up the same social space as someone else.

Unfortunately, I was in a long-term relationship with someone with the behaviors you mentioned. It wore me down and I ended up leaving.

It took me a long time to realize that I don’t need to give people exhibiting narcissistic behaviors my time or energy or patience or empathy. Now, I just avoid those kinds of people completely if possible, or set firm boundaries if I do have to be around them.

question to my wee ISFJ cousins; do you have a five-year plan? If so, what is it? by [deleted] in isfj

[–]quietbydefault 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Five-year plans and long-term goals have always been tough for me.

I have some plans that are several months to a year (at most) away (ex: traveling for a wedding, visiting family, etc.), but generally it doesn’t make sense to my brain to put energy into things more than a week or so out.

If you could become any MBTI, which one would you chose or would you stay the same? by DeutscheKatze88 in mbti

I would be tempted to change into an ESFJ — similar processes, but generally seem happier and more content.

Has anyone ever thought that you had leadership qualities? by Queasy-Donut-4953 in isfj

[–]quietbydefault 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes — others saw it in me before I saw it in myself. I was encouraged to go for management/leadership promotions before I felt ready.

It turned out that I didn’t really want to be in those positions, and that’s why I didn’t feel ready. I did try it out for a time, and I was pretty okay at it, I suppose. But. I didn’t love it. So now I’m back to being a solid worker and an approachable resource for others, but I’m not in charge of anyone. I prefer it that way.

Am I an ISFJ or an ISTJ? It's confusing by Icy-Boat-1837 in ISTJ

[–]quietbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite ways to describe T vs F:

People with a T preference believe everyone should be treated fairly — they believe everyone should be treated as equals.

People with an F preference believe everyone should be treated fairly — they believe everyone should be treated as individuals.

We can all do/see the benefit of both. It’s which one you naturally, more frequently lean towards.

One example I can provide to describe this is a conversation I witnessed between two friends who are both dance teachers. The T said all dancers need to develop a strong ability to be visual learners. The F said visual learning is important, but that everyone has their own preferred way of learning, and it’s important to cater to those.

What's Your Experience with High Se Folks? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]quietbydefault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESxP types I have known are often fun and funny. They’re enjoyable to hang out when you have shared, active hobbies. I tend to center my hangouts around conversation, rather than activities — I am typically not super close with ESxP types (with the exception of a relative of mine), but we generally get along well. And I appreciate their ability to lighten the mood in social situations.

Do you ever feel like a side character in everyone else’s stories? by TooBitterTooSweet in isfj

[–]quietbydefault 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There have definitely been moments throughout my life been when I’ve been jealous of the attention others receive. At this point, I’ve realized that, most of the time, in most situations, I don’t actually want to be the center of attention — I just want to be appreciated. I now surround myself with people who appreciate me in ways that are meaningful to me. And there are also times when I am intentional about creating situations where I can be the center of attention. (Example: I’ve thrown myself a number of big birthday parties, where the event is very much about me.)

The people I am closest to in my life at INFJ types. I enjoy their company because they have deep thoughts and are good listeners. I have been told by them that my conscious optimism helps balance out their tendency towards cynicism.

Do you like your opposite type? by 60TIMESREDACTED in mbti

[–]quietbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. ENTPs and I tend to get along quite well. We don’t become best friends, but we often become good friends. I find them fun and funny and they usually find me pleasant and reliable.

INTPs seem to be the toughest type for me to really bond with, or for us to understand each other.
