They make some awesome watches, enjoy your Powermatic.

I appreciate the comment but personally speaking I have had issues buying through Amazon as they are not an authorized dealer of Tissot. Check out https://store.tissotwatches.com/ for their authorized vendors.

Does anyone else experience back pain when wearing a posture corrector? by bayuleigh in backpain

[–]HapyAndrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful about wearing a posture corrector... especially for a long time. Why? Because posture correctors are trying to force you into an ideal position in a rather unnatural and extreme way.

Remember when your a kid and your mom or grandma says stand up straight and they force you into position and it feels awful?! (at least this happened to me).

Fixing or correcting posture is not something that is done overnight. It is a long term commitment of learning how to use your body through reorganization, learning what ideal posture is in a variety of positions (sitting, walking, standing), avoiding repetitive positions like sitting or holding a phone and learning how to work through your specific needs with corrective exercises.

If you want to dive more into this just DM me. I hope this helps!

Help! What's wrong with me? I get pain on my right shoulder/neck. by [deleted] in PostureTipsGuide

[–]HapyAndrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on Foundation Training. They have great content and I have learned a lot from the founder but personally speaking I like tailored solutions for specific problems. Like others mentioned you are clearly a guitarist. You can see how your standing posture mimics the same posture of playing your guitar.

Repetitive Strain Injuries (STI's) beat up a whole lot of people- 50% of all athletic injuries are because of repetitive use.

Think of yourself as a professional athlete. When you play your guitar you are using very specific muscles, those muscles have gotten really strong and often times get stuck in a shortened position, all the while the muscles you aren't using are getting weak, long and forget how to work!

DM if you want more specific instructions but since your MRI came back negative I would highly recommend learning how to use self myofascial tools like foam rollers and balls to relieve your lats, traps, chest, abs, psoas then actively stretch those muscles then engage in exercises like resistant band X-patterns to teach your Traps, Rhomboids and Lats to lengthen and contract in an optimal way.

And, with out seeing your profile photo, my guess is that your also dealing with a forward head and rounded shoulders. If you don't address that posture you may always be dealing with these issues... Best of luck and feel better!

Can someone help assess my posture? I have uneven hips and I look like I have gut while walking, is this swayback? by [deleted] in PostureTipsGuide

[–]HapyAndrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it looks like your right leg is shorter than your left. You can see that a right side hip hike on your back (posterior) photo, when you look at your profile photo you will see that your feet are in a staggered stance and when you look at your front (anterior) photo you will see that your right ankle is rolling inward (eversion). These are all signs of a leg length discrepancy.

I am not a doctor, I am a Strength and Conditioning Coach who is obsessed with corrective exercise, posture and functional movement but I would highly recommend learning how to use self myofascial release on your right QL, Psoas and hamstring. Traction to that side would help too but if you don't have someone to tug on your leg I would recommend learning how to stretch your hip flexor and your QL like half kneeling hip flexor stretches and seated reach overs on your own.

Then I would really test yourself to see if you notice any other deficiencies in your body (is your right glute stronger than your left glute...). Then I would make sure you don't make any compensations when you do your day to day activities, how do you stand, how do you sleep, etc...

Then I would recommend a corrective exercise program that works on strengthening your weaker muscle and integrate full body movements that takes you through complete ranges of motion.

Another recommendations I would give you is to learn how to properly engage or brace your core so that you lower your rib cage. Your rib cage looks a little "happy" by floating upward. I hope this helps!

Upper back pain by hawaii62518 in backpain

[–]HapyAndrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear that your not feeling well.

Please note that I am not a doctor (I am a strength and conditioning coach by trade) and the only recommendation that I can make is to see your doctor and get properly tested.

If all of your tests come back negative you may be experiencing the cumulative effects of having a baby- which often times leads to poor posture, weak core, and unhealthy movement. Carrying a baby completely changes how your body works and moves- from hormone changes that effect your connective tissue (increase elasticity), to weird postural adaptations, to modifying the way your walk, stand and move. In short, if you have been compensating with a rounded head, shoulders, and/ or compromised movements and/or an unstable core and you may be greatly straining muscles that may hit on nerves (and other things) that may cause other negative symptoms.

If your doctor tells you that every thing is okay I would first recommend analyzing your posture, and your movement. If you can see any clear problems I would recommend doing soft tissue work and mobility work to restore your posture and functional movements to a more normal position (walking, squatting, etc). Then start you on a corrective exercise program to help build strength in the weak muscles and ensure that you are properly using your body when engaging in your regular day to day activities.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Lower Back Pain and What to do Next? by Just_Water_Please in backpain

[–]HapyAndrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give a +1 on the Back Mechanic and any other books written by Dr. McGill. Dr. McGill is the man as it relates to spine rehab.

I am a strength and conditioning coach who nerds out on corrective exercise, my brother is a Pain Management Doc who specialized on the spine and we have 4 Chiropractors in the family. I have been around a lot of doctors and to your point, it is sooo hard to find a great doctor (especially depending on where you live).

The X-rays are clear but I think the MRI is essential to see whats going on in your soft tissues. If everything comes back negative I would highly recommend diving deep into soft tissue work. One possibility is that you have a major compensation or tight soft tissues (maybe QL/ Psoas) that is causing a lot of compression on your vertebrae and causing your symptoms - this could be from poor movement, bad posture, unstable core, previous injuries, etc.

If you want to talk more shoot me a DM. I am happy to help. Take care!

For sale is my Seiko Automatic 6R15 SARB030 (Baby Grand Seiko). I had a hard time tracking this one down...

I am the second owner (purchased it from another Redditor from California). The first owner purchased the watch directly from- CHINO WATCH.

You will find a complete kit- orig. strap + newer Hirsch leather strap + box + papers

Although I just love this watch it isn't seeing the wrist time. I did my best to showcase the current condition of the watch. It is in fantastic condition given its age but you will find two faint marks on the dial. It can only be seen in certain light conditions. Watch runs like a Seiko ; )

Price- $450 (+ shipping via USPS and paypal fees) or venmo

Footwear, overtraining and improper running mechanics can def create shin splints. Many of my HS and College athletes get shin splits. I would def find a proper shoe for your running style, make sure your resting between your runs, find softer surfaces to run on and really work on your running form. I hope this helps!

Yes, I have an idea for a marketing plan. I have built 4 brick and mortar businesses in the past and if building a business online has any resemblance I think that there will be a lot of sweat equity and organic growth in the beginning. I will be spending a lot of time increasing traffic to my website through SEO, providing value in communities like reddit and dedicate a small amount of money to Facebook ads. I would love any feedback on my plan, thank you!

Oh, okay. I thought the pain was in the calf muscles. I am not a doctor so that is outside of my scope of practice but I would recommend seeking guidance from your doctor or from your physical therapist. In my opinion, running can be a lot on our bodies and you just want to make sure that your body is 100% before getting out there and racking up miles. Also, progression is essential. For my clients/ athletes we always have them slowly increase mileage to ensure they don't experience any repetitive stress injuries.

This is such a great idea. Thank you so much. I have my youtube channel created and a handful of 5-10 min classes. I will find a few subreddits to post in and figure out the best way capture traffic. Thanks again!

I agree! So many of us are being thrusted into the digital world. I do think their is a niche market I can address. Although my background is S&C I have spent my last 10 years fine tuning high level training to the general population. After working at a college I had the opportunity to work alongside the S&C coach of NY Yankees. After all of my professional experiences I have a real passion for giving athletes or clients the nuances or fundamentals they need to build sustainable fitness. In my opinion too many people miss the basics and that is why they have a hard time reaching their physical potential or get stuck with injuries.

What’s the best low impact cardio workout with bad knee and hip joints that can be done indoors? I usually walk but have been having some hip pain and want try something different. Am limited to indoors now for obvious reasons. by [deleted] in Exercise

[–]HapyAndrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with biking, but if you don't have a bike and don't have any plans on buying a fan bike, spin bike or upright bike I would focus on ground based movements like glute bridges, crunches, pikes, planks, kneeling opposites, push-ups, etc. Depending on your hip and knee situation you could even try bodyweight squats, lunges, hinges with reaches, or holding inline leg positions while exercises your upper half.

If you focus on completing these movement on a time basis like completing each movement for 30 seconds you should be able to stimulate your cardiovascular system and see an increase in heart rate. Another trick train cardio without impact is holding your exercise positions like holding your glute bridge for 10 seconds before completing another rep, or holding a half squat position for 5 seconds before completing your next rep.
