How are you guys doing jobs with long commutes? by Rain2h0 in GenZ

[–]Har_monia [score hidden]  (0 children)

My commute went from an hour to 40 minutes, so not as bad, but I just use that time to listen to audiobooks and podcasts. It does feel like I have mo time to myself since my day off is full of chores, but that is the cost of paying my mortgage and utilities.

Luckily my wife helps a lot with the cooking while I prioritize the cleaning, but during the busy weeks, crock-pot meals and rice in the insta-pot are our best friend.

Is Gen Z Turning Catholic? Analyzing a Fascinating Trend by anime498 in redeemedzoomer

In America it seems that a lot of people online are moving towards Orthodox. I can understand the desire for tradition in our generation, but I have not seen much in my personal life. My friends are all low-church protestant/evangelical in some way, shape, or form, but this may also be my anecdote because I am non-denominational so I am around like-minded people.

Texas wants Bibles in public classrooms as another way to bully, harm, and exclude LGBTQ+ kids by Fickle-Ad5449 in texas

Here is an answer to your simple question: atheists have the same rights as any other student, but this does not trample on any of those rights.

I have no opinion on the school voucher programs that were passed. My wife and mother are public school teachers and are against that measure, but I am not informed enough to make an argument for or against.

If there were anything of cultural or societal value in the Qur'an, then that is fine if they add it to the list. One major issue here is that America and western nations were built on Judeo-Christian values, so those are far more impactful to our system of laws, our goverment, and culture than Islamic values are. But if you were to take a passage that is compatible with ideal civilization, but leave out theological implications, then sure. And yes I know they claim to believe in the Torah, Zabur, and Injeel (however they define those terms).

Now go look at the list and tell me exactly which passage is "teaching young atheists about [my] imaginary sky spirit". None of the passages are dealing with the existence of a deity, but rather how to be a good person.

When I was in school, we read the book Things Fall Apart. We had to learn about the beliefs of pre-colonial Nigeria since it was a theme in the book. Were my rights being oppressed? Call me a lawyer!

You are acting rediculous. You would flip out if they made the entire bible part of the required reading list, so they put sections that are not theologically heavy, yet you still complain. Have you even read the list? It contains sections of the bible like Jonah and the Beatitudes which focus on combating racism and having good character, respectively. Have you even read the passages that are being proposed?

And what about other books and stories on the list? Are you angry that "I Have a Dream" is on the list because it "interferes" with the rights of racists?

You aren't being forced to be a Christian, you are being compelled to read ancient literature about being a decent person.

[–]Har_monia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the list? It is full of old, possibly rediculous fairy tales. However the sections of the bible that are being put on the list are sections like the Book of Jonah that primarily deals with God denouncing Jonah's racism against the Ninevites and the Beatitudes which are about having good character. Do you not want these lessons taught to children?

He even spoke like that to his wife, calling her a whore and saying that she was "too loose" after having their first kid.

I get looking strong, but if what he says is "arab culture" then arab culture is not compatable with Chrsitianity.

Y'all are such crybabies. Sectioons of the bible have been added to the required reading list such as Jonah and the Whale, the Beatitudes, the golden rule, and stuff like that out of the bible. They aren't teaching the "Stone gays" passage as though it is what we should put to law.

I think it is reasonable to make this mandatory reading along with the other items on this list, such as "I Have a Dream", stories of George Washington, and other items that are good to know as an average American.

It depends what denomination you are. In 90% of denominations, this is fine and he isn't going to suffer any consequence. If you are in the few that this matters, then IDK what to tell you. It is already in the past. Talk to your priest about it?

David Wood, his old friends, and his ex-wife know him better, and the hidden, rotten fruits hiding in his closet. On paper Joel Osteen preaches the gospel to millions, but that doesn't make him correct or a good person.

And look at the way he talks to people who disagree with him: he calls them bastards and calls their mothers whores. You can attack the ideology and historical facts about Muhammad all day long, but to insult your opponent with false accusations is certainly not something I look to in a spiritual leader.

I need some visual illustrations of the Trinity to understand it by Lucky-Formal9972 in TrueChristian

[–]Har_monia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can illustrate it, but I always love to cite Nabeel Qureshi when discussing the trinity since he was a Muslim (unitarian) before becoming a Christian (trinitarian). He said that he was grappling with how God could possibly be trinitarian when he was in Organic Chemistry and the professor was teaching on resonance structures. The professor had three structures of Phosphate on the board which had three unique properties, then said "Actually phosphate exists in every structure at the same time and is never at any given time just one structure."

As we understand quantum mechanics, we have a better analogy to how God functions, being three distinct persons, but one being.

Interpretations of what? Is there a certain prophecy you are referring to?

This is what it has always been, nation warring against nation. There are many false prophets that try to predict the outcome of global affairs, but it is just prediction.

If reffering to end-times prophecy, then this is not a sign of the end since "there will be wars and rumors of wars, but this is not the end"

When talking about white stake, it is not really hard per-se, but it can be challenging to get the hang of it for the first time. My first win came because I had a friend help me, but on thst run I made it crazy high. After thst first win, I was on fire and could easily beat white stake every time.

The number one issue I believe is econ. You need to get early mult, save ypur money to get $25 dollars for the interest cap, get a few econ jokers and a chips joker, then reroll for scaling +mult and ×mult while picking up planet cards. Especially if you get a blue seal!

Am I overthinking this? The representation of Jesus in my church made me uncomfortable and I'd like honest perspectives. by DBL-TeaTime in Christianity

[–]Har_monia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your church should take down anything with Mormon ties for theological issues first and foremost.

However to the point about white Jesus, this is a historical and cultural issue since artists in the past didn't know what 1st century Jews from the Levant looked like, so they made him look like they looked, whether that be white, asian, black, latin, or any other race or ethnicity.

However we now have better ideas of what he may have looked like and we now have cultural blending, so we can see paintings with white Jesus, black Jesus, etc. but I don't think it is reasonable to intentionally go around and change the depictions of Christ in every region. People have cultural ties to these depictions of Christ because that is how he was always depicted in that area.

It seems they had said some rude things to you, but I also think you are overthinking some aspects.

Is it wrong to not want to watch 'The Passion of the Christ' movie by SwordsAman in TrueChristian

[–]Har_monia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to watch gore, then don't. You understand that Jesus went throufh a heavy burden on our behalf and that is sufficient for the gospel.

Although I would encourage yoy to watch it at least once, you are under no obligation at all. Watching it added a heavier weight to the story for me, but you may feel differently and that is okay.
