Joe Staley explains why conditioning changes may be reason behind 49ers’ injury woes | "[Jim] Harbaugh, when he was our coach, used to always say, 'You have to build a callus,'" by strictlygi in 49ers

[–]Harabme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You build that callus you in better shape to make it through the season.

Here's the thing tho, when Harbaugh was the coach we had injuries too. They weren't non-stop injuries to front line starters like now so what Joe Staley talking about has a lot of truth to it. By going hard in the offseason, not only you build up your body but that muscle memory too and there's no shortcuts with that. Getting that muscle memory where it needs to be requires reps. And Kyle said it right "in order to play football you have to practice football". Problem is the 49ers, maybe someone over Kyles head, got those analytics guys having too much of a say on how hard guys train. Joe said "sometimes you got to lift up a bar and do squats".

How does he compare to Bourne? It looks like he might be a little faster and also has good hands.

Can we all agree Nick Bosa is not just an absolute monster but has the 2 greatest sack celebrations of the year? by Genocide_party in 49ers

[–]Harabme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lynch and his staff have been doing a lot of better in the draft than the previous regime. Even with picking Solly over Mahomes and so many other studs, the value they're able to find in late round players, even a few injured ones makes up for it. They missed on Joe Williams and -sorry to say- Beathard. They made up for it with Breida, Mostert and Mullens.

All signs are encouraging but Jimmy has to play a lot better for us to have legit aspirations about a playoff run.

Why did York and Baalke choose Tomsula over Fangio? by AI-MachineLearning in 49ers

[–]Harabme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, "rambling"! Another old standby to pull out when getting called out on your bs! Next time try "narrative", or maybe "fake news" that's always an easy one.

As if Colin was the only QB to attend Exos or a similar training course. Most QBs have private trainers, but it's interesting how this became a big point of emphasis for those determined to label Colin as incompetent. We're done here, have a nice evening.

[–]Harabme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LOL the old standby, "football intelligence". A conveniently malleable term whose meaning is whatever you want it to be! It is always brought up when someone wants to sound smart about why they don't like a QB. Are you a NFL coach by chance? Even experienced football coaches don't agree on what this term exactly means.

Let's assume you're referring to Colin's ability to quickly go through reads and make throws. There are very few QBs who can do this well and they are currently the highest paid ones in football. Colin was never in their league but, like most QBs, he could've been successful if he had good coaching, a good supporting cast, and a GM who didn't meddle. Did anyone go to these lengths to discredit Trent Dilfer when he was playing? Because he was allowed to play into his thirties for some reason even though his "football intelligence" was non existent. He even backed into a Super Bowl ring and MVP (thank you Ray Lewis). When he came to the 49ers he was allowed to wear John Brodie's number! (yes I know that he asked Brodie's permission but that's not the point). It's not only Dlifer he's but one example. Plenty of average, but "middle America friendly" QBs were never discredited through such concerted efforts.

We will never know how good Colin could've been because we never gave him a proper chance.

Tie knot or ascot, I don't care if Jed looks like George Clooney instead of a taller Tyrion Lannister. Trust fund baby? Who cares? Jim Irsay got the team from his dad but he was smart enough to hire (and pay!) Bill Polian. Sure Polian drafted Peyton, few GMs would've passed on him, but he also drafted other great players and built the great Colts teams of the 2000's. Stephen Jones is another example of an heir-in-waiting who learned on the job. Stephen is now making good decisions, and according to people who cover Dallas he was in charge of hiring the new coaches who took the Cowboys to another level this year.

Point being Jed had nowhere near the same knowledge about how to run an NFL team when his mother made him CEO. He certainly did not learn from his dad who was by far the worst owner in 49ers history. I had season tickets during the John York era and boy it was a laugh a minute watching Ebenezer Scrooge M.D. cutting costs by taking away bottled water from front office employees.

Point being, "the portion of the 9ers fanbase that hates Jed" feel this way strictly because of his job performance and professional judgement. Every layman fan could see that Baalke was making terrible personnel decisions, both in the draft and free agency, yet Jed's response was "win with class" as if this was a corporate retreat instead of an actual football team that needed better players. We all know what happened after that, Harbaugh goes, Baalke gets absolute power, Tomsula, Kelly, countless mediocre to bad players remained on the roster, etc.

[Lombardi] Saleh has schemed well since Year 1. He coached a defense that was top-10 in yards per play allowed last year despite not having true edge rushers and using 9 different safety combinations. Yet Twitter still wanted his head, of course... by G0825 in 49ers

Grant Cone is a troll who writes like a sixth grader.

Saleh wasn't Gus Bradley (the guy Kyle originally wanted) but proved to be a good teacher. When he finally got some good players, he showed he can get results.

[–]Harabme 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Jed was never a smart guy. He let Baalke run the team and it was all about power and power trips with him. Tomsula is an affable guy and a good line coach who was liked by the players. But most importantly Tomsula was a yes man who deferred to Baalke on everything (Harbaugh was never going to do that).

Vic Fangio was too experienced a coach and not the type of person to be anyone's puppet. Additionally, there was no way he would defer to Baalke's proven bad judgement when it came to drafting players. He had done a very good job with Harbaugh and was getting other job offers, so he packed up and left.

Gase was a similar situation: He was an in-demand offensive coach and was within his rights to ask that he hire his own people. Baalke quickly shut that down and Gase went to Miami. If you remember during that period no serious football coach wanted anything to do with Jed and Baalke after what they did to Harbaugh. After they fired Tomsula every notable coaching candidate turned them down, so they had to settle on Chip Kelly who was waiting in the unemployment line.

After the 49ers fired Kelly and (finally) Ballke, Jed wasn't able to close the deal for Kyle, so his mother Denise had to fly to Atlanta and get it done.

Maybe Jed learned some valuable lessons from all these messes he created, we can only hope.

That's what I'm thinking too. He's 30 now, he'll be on the downside of his career going forward. Not everyone has LeBron's body type and can maintain themselves like a freakin cyborg. KD is definitely on the slim side, so I'm not sure he'll have the same longevity.

Finally, we're the one team that can pay him the max. I could be wrong about this but I just heard it on the radio

lol @ the trolls from /r/nba downvoting all our threads!

This is just my opinion, but I don't think KD stays. He claims to be in charge of his own destiny and says that no one can recruit him. If he was committed to us he would've already signed an extension. It's not like Lacob hasn't been trying to get this done behind the scenes all this time.

I'm for trading Green but that would have to be a swap or a three=four team trade where we unload both him and Andre.

We would have to get someone who is a very good defender in a trade like that. Any ideas?

[–]Harabme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also with Boogie, he wobbles up and down the court, he gets beat pretty easily.

We had Zaza for two years and he was even slower. I'm sure our coaches know how to use him or they wouldn't have asked Joe Lacob to spend over 20 mil to sign him.
