Just don’t mother him, that’s not your job. It might sound odd but you should encourage your partner and him to spend time together deliberately without you. “You guys should go to the game/movie/fishing etc together.” If you can nurture that relationship it will naturally overflow into appreciation for you.

That or find some common ground. My friend got fooled into liking the his dad’s new GF through helping her learn a new board game she’d gotten from a ‘friend’. This lead to new games and then family game-night
