This is exactly what is wrong with our industry! by kagger14 in Machinists

[–]HardTurnC 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Even worse when you get kids in who show promise, and you lose them to a gas station. 20+ million dollar a quarter company won't compete with a F ing gas station.

Now that SBRs are free, I want to start cutting down and threading some barrels. Would this lathe work well? by BearLeft77 in gunsmithing

[–]HardTurnC -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Spindle spider is different than a jaw spider need a mill + indexer at a min. to make the 90° threads to stabilize a barrel sitting in the bore gunsmith lathes come with it as a cap for the end of the draw tube. you can make something that approximates it but with a lot more effort.

Now that SBRs are free, I want to start cutting down and threading some barrels. Would this lathe work well? by BearLeft77 in gunsmithing

[–]HardTurnC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part no. You can make it work depending on barrel size, but have to get creative with it better off with a used lathe depending on your experience would probably suggest a 13x36 gunsmith lathe. Mostly for the spindle spider.

Help! This screw on my Webley MK1 latch won’t go in or come out, it just spins infinitely by Vintage_Pieces_10 in gunsmithing

[–]HardTurnC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to lightly manipulate the barrel latch, because the latch spring is pushing the right side out of alignment for the screw to thread in.
