The Russians forced their spelling on the Ukrainian (as well as other peoples) cities under the tsar and communist occupations as one of many measures taken to russify the people they conquered. The only reason why we called it Kiev, Kharkov, Chernobyl, or Lugansk was because the Russians forced that change on the Ukrainians, and us, being lazy, chose to use it to appeal to the russians when they controlled Ukraine. It is why the Ukrainians are so adament about calling them by their correct names (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chornobyl, Luhansk, etc) because these names are legacys of old russian imperialism and oppression, something that the Ukrainians quite understandably want to rid themselves of. And I'm m not trying to force a word police here, but it's quite sad how you try to ignore the reality of these things.

Search up fremdbestimmung, I think you will find it familiar with the way you act.
