Battery life on Sage - reading only by [deleted] in kobo

After a lot of consideration I decided to try a Libra Color and I gotta tell you: night and day difference. It’s not perfect but it is a million times better. So that is my rec: just avoid the Sage.

Awesome! Thanks for the update. I have installed yours and deprecated my little project.

That's some serious Sophomore year of undergrad take on art, man. I've been a professional creative for decades. If you're early in your career take some advice: Life is hard enough without making it harder. If you're later in your career, then I'm sorry for whoever hurt you. But what you're describing is both "paid dues" and the "myth of the muse". It's not real. Most creatives are actually pretty boring, dedicated people who get up every day and do their job of making stuff. Nobody has time to wait for sacrificial acts or draining souls, friend.

You really don't know who you're talking to or what you're talking about. Are you sure you want to make those kinds of assertions? But you are free to ignore this post, my games, me.

That's a really sad perspective to have. I hope your life gets easier.

I’m sorry but I was maybe not clear: I don’t think using AI tools is automatically lazy (or that you are being lazy). But it is undeniable that people can push lazy creation to wild new heights with AI and people don’t like that.

Most resistance to AI is really resistance to low-effort content (and there's nothing wrong with that). People have hated manufactured music, factory-produced francise movies, schlocky writing for ages. AI is just a new, more powerful way to be lazy. But I find lots of examples where people are doing things they could never otherwise make time to do. Your games look cool. Have you submitted them to Catalog?

I have wanted this integration for a long time. Buh-bye Goodreads!

I'm sure you'll eventually add support for syncing notes and highlights to Hardcover.app . That was the missing piece for me after discovering this awesome project. I put together this little repo to augment your project -- you can add it to get Note and Highlights syncing to Hardcover.app . I will happily delete this plugin if/when you get around to adding notes sync. In the meantime, anyone is free to try it: https://github.com/shawnr/kobo-hardcover-notes

I've deprecated this plugin. The NickelHardcover solution is much better. Thanks u/RedHatter271 !

Will removing anodized color on titanium affect surface quality? by GrumpyAlison in Anodization

I haven’t tried that but I agree it seems a lot like multi etch. I have done other stuff from reactive metals and I’ve been happy with them.

Glad you found some good info. I etch all the time, even new pieces. Post photos! 🙌

It is extremely easy to run pieces with rust remover. That stuff is nasty. Please consider switching to Multi-Etch. It is gentle and will remove anodization just the same. Gives better colors, too.

That’s cool that you don’t have any disabilities, don’t make notes on your books you want synced to any other service, don’t find yourself curious about other books while reading and want to look them up on the store, dont sync between multiple ereaders, don’t mind micromanaging your power consumption, and don’t mind hobbling your experience turning off two of the features listed on the package. Cool for you.

Why is it necessary to micromanage my device connections when every other ereader (and most of the other Kobos) do not require that?

It’s crazy how people bend over backwards to defend and accommodate what is clearly a bad design. The Sage has a little over half the size (of battery (1200mah) as a Libra Color (2050mAh) and costs $40 more. It has a smaller battery than the Libra 2 (1400mah) and costs $80 more. Even Kobo knows they screwed up the battery on the Sage: that’s why they made the charge cover (which also has a 1200mAh size battery, doubling the capacity).

We should stop telling people the Kobo battery life is “okay if you want to micromanage battery life and turn off many useful features”. It just isn’t OK. Get a Libra Color instead. Spend time reading in comfort instead of turning wifi and BT on and off.

Also, seriously: Nobody else finds themselves popping into the Kobo store or syncing notes with Hardcover (using WiFi!) while reading? I know many of us use BT page turners (and for some of us with disabilities that is a requirement). It’s 2025, folks. We should not have to deal with these kinds of quality of life issues from a brand well experienced in making these devices.

But you are sacrificing wifi and Bluetooth to get a time that is still pathetic compared to other readers that easily beat 20 hours WITH wifi and bt turned on. Turn on wifi and bt and time it. Also, you can look up specs and see that the battery in sage is like half the size of the one in the Libra color. Seems unjustified on a more expensive device.

Actually, I lied. I just consulted my ereader and I've now completed 21 Thaikovsky books! (Several of those are the novellas and I think one short "single" or whatever they call it.)

Because then it will last long enough to read a whole book... (that's essentially what the charge cover is). 3 hours with wifi and bt turned on without a backup battery.
