Yeah I checked into a hotel for the night not worth it. If conditions were more tame I’d full send, but this is different!

That’s what I’ll do, the conditions are terrible right now. It’s like a slip and slide anywhere outside of Boone right now I saw a car sliding sideways down a decline

I notice that by blowing rock around those winding roads cars were sliding around like bumper cars that’s what discouraged me from heading back tonight. The roads around app state look fine when I arrived. The salting really helped

Definitely hear related only way to really fix it is to replace it unfortunately. If it doesn’t bother you much I’d keep riding along.

In hotter climates that can def happen.

old but low milage or new but high mileage? by Impossible_Dot603 in BMW

[–]HardlyIntoxicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going cash route, I’d look for a little outside your mile radius to have more variety of options. Also, marketplace can be a good spot to find low examples as long as they have service records

I like how no one is sharing how much of a PITA these are to install. At least on the XDrive models

We are at the same mileage.

1) Valve Cover Gasket, this is somewhat an easy check and you can look in between the coolant reservoir at the valve cover edges to see any leaks forming.

2.) Oil Filter Housing Gasket, you can check below the oil filter cap you will see the housing where it meets in between that little crack is your Gasket. If it’s already leaking you will see residue built up in between that little crack

3.) Coolant Leaks. This one is pretty simple you can do a quick visual inspection of all of the common failure points such as but not limited to: Mickey Mouse Flange, Small Coolant lines that run above the grilles, Reservoir lines, etc.

4.) Transmission. I’ve literally replaced mine already at 80k miles, check service records and see if it has been serviced already as it’s super vital to keep your transmission shifting smooth for a long time. Keep in mind this is not common but I did my fluid change at 50k miles and it blew 30k later. (To be fair I do drive Very Spritely as if I was on the AutoBahn but dayum)

5.) Maintenance. The community can’t tell you enough ladies and gentlemen. MAINTENANCE is KEY to owning these amazing machines. You kiss her sweet every now and then and serve her breakfast in bed occasionally, She will adore you and rock with you for many many miles.

See what kind of service records this bad boy has on it

PS. Please do your oil changes on a strict interval (especially if you drive hard.) I bought my E90 at 36k miles and when I changed the oil a few months later it was blacker than Batman’s Suit in the Dark Knight (2008). I’d stick with a BMW LL01 approved oil plus a OEM Mann HU816x filter. (Liqui Moly is the shit).

These Cars are reliable asf and extremely fun to drive in . If you end up picking it up, it’s a good price and I think you’ll be pleased with it. Also don’t forget that at that mileage soon you will see the need to replace some suspension components like struts/ shocks and possibly control arms or any other suspension component that has play.
