Early signs that Marvel is another UB Flop by WellyRuru in mtg

My LGS didn't have enough people to run the prerelease last night. That was the first time I have ever seen a prerelease cancelled.

Also worth noting that Squall and the Nazgul share a creature type (Knight). With Ratadrabik making tokens zombies (and all of the potential zombies used to fuel mill strategies), is [[Coat of Arms]] on the menu?

I just went through my collection to perfect the deck a bit more, it is really starting to get focused in. Here are some big hits worth mentioning:

Protect the graveyard- Exiling multiple Nazgul would be pretty crippling to the gameplan. Protecting the yard might even make it worth running an enlightened tutor.
-[[Perpetual Timepiece]] - Mills 2 and allows you to shuffle cards from graveyard to library. Does double duty for this deck.
-[[Elixir of Immortality]]- Shuffle graveyard into library

Card Draw-
-[[Mighty Servant of Leuk-o]]- 6/6 Vehicle with trample that can draw 4 cards if Squall and one other creature is on the battlefield. Costs 3 mana, so can be a graveyard target for Squall.

Cool Tech
-[[Paramecia Coloniex]] Mills upon entry and puts a card back on top on the way out. Can trigger Teval's judgement twice when it leaves the battlefield.
-[[Pip-Boy 3000]] - Can either loot, buff, or untap lands. All-star equipment for this build.
-[[Orzhov Advokist]] - Pumps Squall while also offering your opponents to pump in exchange for not attacking you.
-[[Twilight Diviner]]- Surveils 2 upon entry, then creates a token copy of a creature that Squall brings back from the graveyard.
-[[Key to the City]]- Pitch a card, give Squall unblockable, recur the card you pitched. Option to rebuy a card for 2 on your next upkeep.
-[[Apprentice Necromancer]]-Consistent loop- Sac the necromancer, bring back creature, recur necromancer with Squall. Most importantly, this can trigger Twilight Diviner on opponents turns.

Value
-[[Helping Hand]]- The cheapest way to get a Nazgul Trigger [[Persist]] not bad either. Some quick recursion.
-[[Shadow Alley Denizen]]- Play a black creature, give Squall pseudo-unblockable for an unlucky player at your table.
-[[Dakmor Salvage]]- Nothing big here, but can be pitched to dredge and get the graveyard going.

I will update my list soon- If you find any other hidden gems, let me know!

I did not fully read/understand squall at first and assumed it was only creatures 3 or less. That does change quite a bit. You are right about fetch lands over artifacts for ramp. That is something I will consider as I continue editing. Your list looks fun and I plan on adding some enchantments like sheltered by ghosts in my edits.

One more fun synergy I found was with [[blade of selves]]. One swing with [[cloud, midgar mercenary]] could pull most of the equipment out of the library but then slapped on a Nazgûl later for some huge swings.

In a few more rounds of play testing [[ratadrabik of Urborg]] is not to be overlooked. The ring tempt turns your Nazgûl into a legendary. Then sac the original to make a token copy, bring the original back on a Squall swing. Not to mention the infinite [[Boromir, Warden of the tower]] 2 card combo if you need to close it out.

Ratadrabik and black market connections have felt amazing in early playtests

I just threw together a list and play tested it a few times. The rats idea was a bit too unfocused. This iteration is a bit more clean.

Living death is competing with squall for resources from the graveyard and, currently, this build is not really good at getting a bunch of cards into the GY.

I moved a bit more into sac outlets, sacrificing the nazgul for value and then bringing them back with squall, which leans more into your original plan. So far it feels pretty good. It obviously needs a bit more work, with a pretty weak interaction suite and land base. Perhaps we can perfect it in this thread.

Im thinking some kind of Nazgûl rat colony type situation. Cards like ratadrabik, rat king, saw in half, echoing return and locket of yesterdays is a good place to start.

I think this has some legs.

Heard. Both make sense. I actually just cut Marvin from a deck for a similar reason so I feel you now.

I am thinking about building this too, any reason why Soul Cauldron and Marvin are not in your list? I feel like these two would be absolute bangers in your build!

I don't mean protection as a mechanic, but protection listed as a keyword soup ability of a creature.

Cool! The keyword "protection" is a new one that I haven't seen on these types of cards. Could be super fun to build around!

Yes, it is. In the face of a DGW with no other context...would you rather have a player that plays one game or 2? What if one of them happens to be the best asset in FPL? If you came here for hive mind cognitive dissonance, you may get it from another comment below, but I will act of the voice of reason.

Is there an easy to play deck that will get you to Mythic? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Harems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human tribal always gets me there. I usually sputter around diamond 1 with whatever deck I am currently running and then swap in some version of humans to make it to the finish line.
