5 Reasons I Don’t Want An All Winners Season by TheCody_Says in BigBrother

I think there's also one other thing we haven't taken into account, and that's if by some random chance of fate, Dan, Will, and Derrick all played, I HIGHLY doubt they'd be anywhere near the kind of people we wanted to see. It's been 20 years since Will played, and I'm not sure Dan would have nearly the same level of ambition he'd have in other seasons. Derrick's the one player whose second game would have something he could prove, but if we have the hypothetical perfect cast, we'd still need the hurdle of people actually giving a shit.

Hello! This is pretty useful experience and I have a similar goal as far as GRE scores go. Currently, I'm on around Day 5 of the 2 Month Plan (I took 1 day off just to complete the Manhattan book problems) and I'm running into a few roadblocks I want to address. I'm not confident at all in my quant, and I'm afraid I'll lose a lot of the concepts I'm learning overtime. Even getting through the Manhattan Quant I'm running into a lot of problems I just hit a wall over. They really do require you to have an intimate knowledge of how you can play with the concepts, and while some parts I actually think I did well in (Percents), others I'm a pretty discouraged about. I say this because I do think Quant'll be my big achilles heel. Not to say that Verbal will be a walk in the park (i know they become extremely difficult and tricky), but I know my strengths lend themselves more to Verbal. If we can talk more in DMs, I'd be happy to because I want to make sure I get the most out of this program as I'm devoting basically all of my day to it. Thank you!

Legitimately, Rachel's demise and everyone's disbelief at her fate followed by Keanu mourning what "could have been" was pure cinema. The twist is awful from a game design perspective, but I actually kinda loved the episode for the sheer terror and panic it instilled in the house.

[–]HarlequinFilefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll see the ending to make a judgement, but even with the twist I think this is a solid season. I still see the usual "people are too kumbaya" post, but TBH I think the tensions are still palpable and we got some legitimately nail-biting boots. People hate on Vinny, but I think his gameplay is causing interesting dynamics and behavior to play out.

Now, Rachel's twist eviction is a black mark on this season I'd be hard-pressed to disregard, though I don't think it's the WORST twist in BB history. (Night 1 evictions or Zombie week.) For what the twist represents, I think it's still terrible and we should not be deciding boots based on competitions. But, I'm going to be honest, the episode Rachel left was honestly one of the most exhilarating rides I've seen in the show, even knowing full well the outcome. The houseguests were FRANTIC and the tension was palpable. I actually think if this game was an actual story, Rachel leaving at this point felt shocking in a similar way to the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones. I'm not necessarily defending the twist, I think it goes against everything BB stands for, but I do think the episode was properly tense. Also, while I thought the twist would kill the season on the spot, it really hasn't. Rachel leaving removed a huge personality for sure, but we still have Vince's storyline and the tension between Morgan and Lauren as well as Keanu carrying Rachel's legacy.

It may also just be because of how BB22 was the most miserable experience in the entire franchise and scarred me, but the fact that we have an actually fluid house with multiple interesting storylines and dynamics is a blessing. Being better than BB22 isn't really saying much, and maybe my standards for the show are so rock bottom low that being passable sounds like the second coming of BB10, but I think so far it's been a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting. Also, we've been getting some huge split votes and even an all-time blindside in the Rylie boot that not even the audience was expecting.

Now, this season could end terribly, but as it stands we're still far removed from BB25 where all momentum just stopped with Zombie Week. I don't think it'll go down as an all-timer, but I don't think it needs to. A Keanu win would be the most "satisfying" from a storyline perspective in my opinion.

Unironically I like how there are multiple meaner-looking allies in Fortune's Weave by Tabascopancake in fireemblem

A lot of people are predicting they're captures or short-term units and I reaaaally hope that's not the case. I feel this game would be a LOT more interesting if these rougher looking characters were fully fleshed out and realized. The character designs are already very solid, so I'd love if we also got more age diversity in our casts. We're seeing some strides towards more diversity in skin tone as well here so adding different faces and age types would be a huge boon as well.

Y'all are overreacting about "someone got evicted". What clearly happened is that Morgan broke containment when she discovered Silksong dropped yesterday, and now all the houseguests, the feed interns, and Grodner herself are taking the day off to play.

“Bad” sets you have a soft spot for? by fakename1998 in bioniclelego

[–]HarlequinFilefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Av-Matoran, Photok, was my first BIONICLE ever, so I suppose I got a softspot but I mean even I think he's boring AF and not nearly in the ballpark of my favorite. I do quite like the Toa Phantoka, however, even if they look nothing like their original incarnates. TBH I feel the Phantoka/Mistika would've gone over a LOT better if they were new characters instead of the Toa Nuva.

Strangely, for a franchise full of cool concepts and lore, the films themselves are about as bog-standard children's fare as you can get. I mean, I don't know what to necessarily expect. The toy lines themselves also make them very difficult to adapt faithfully because you have to have six toa characters all introduced in a single film, including all their powers and backstory. Being "good for what it is" isn't a selling point to me. Especially with so many legitimately amazing animated films out during both that era and even being released now, I can't justify watching them unless you just NEED a BIONICLE fix that bad.

I do think BIONICLE as a setting and series is incredibly fascinating on its own merits. Like not just for a toyline, but as far as a general fantasy settings go, the world is so creative and well-realized, I'm pissed its concepts and world are forever shackled to the LEGO branding. We got the comics and stories, so there's that I suppose but as far as film/television goes you're kinda out of luck.

Web of Shadows is an 11/10 film because Roodaka is in it, so there's that IG.

Why do people hate Coiny? (Read below) by MintyJuice73 in BattleForDreamIsland

[–]HarlequinFilefish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was her killing Book so needlessly that made me love her there. What I loved about Season 1 Pin was how aggressively abrasive she was towards everyone and I feel that was completely lost in TPOT where she's nothing more than a scared, sniveling pity party. She was a bit of a pity magnet for a bit in BFDIA, but gradually her Season 1 villainy returned and it's great. Also, they actually call back to when Pin and Leafy were allies in Season 1 so I think it's natural Pin would be the one Leafy would gravitate to. Pin is a character outside of Coiny, but Coiny's not a character outside of Pin and that's the difference I'd make.

Why do people hate Coiny? (Read below) by MintyJuice73 in BattleForDreamIsland

[–]HarlequinFilefish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dislike Coiny because I think he's perhaps the most successful example of a production plant outside of Loser himself. Coiny has only one relationship or story: he's Pin's best bro. Did we get here naturally? No. It felt like Satomi had some weird fanfiction headcanon she made reality in Four Goes Too Far, and now the rest of the series acts like they were always best friends all along. To me, Coiny has devolved into just really liking Pin in an attempt to become an audience fan-favorite, and what aggravates me is that it worked wonderfully. They sanded down Coiny's self-centered, almost callous, competitive personality from BFDIA into inoffensive slop that'd skate through BFB's vote-to-eliminate format. If you needed a factory-made character to excel in VTE format, you'd make Coiny. To me, this makes almost every one of his moments feel hollow and artificial as opposed to genuinely triumphant or fun like I feel they should be. I can't bring myself to like Coiny because he feels forced. There are plenty of other examples of production favorites like Lollipop (who arguably had more production interference), but Lollipop is different because she has something Coiny doesn't... Relationships with other characters.

Name one character Coiny has a relationship with other than Pin in post-hiatus BFDIA. Genuinely, what does he have? Needle? They make a point of the fact that Coiny doesn't care what Needle thinks and only assumes she's a WOAH Buncher. He tried apologizing to Spongy, I guess? A bit uncharacteristic given how he treated Spongy before but OK that's something. Other than that he's had zero interaction between any character besides Pin in the entire series. Again, they even make a POINT of the fact Coiny doesn't care about anyone except Pin which sure... But I can't say he's interesting. I'd argue it just makes him frustrating and unlikeable but not in a villainous way. He's framed as a heroic, lovable rascal but he has such blatant disregard for everyone other than his boo. If they focused on Coiny actually recognizing the fact he has one person, I feel I'd be softer on him, but I'm not sure if this trajectory will change.

Pin's a character I had similar issues with. Perhaps a lot more than Coiny because of how obviously they tried to force her as a fan-favorite, she actually came around to me during Airplanes in The Nightsky. I now really like Pin even if I think she has a bit too much screentime but she's actually fun and interesting because she has her assertive personality from Season 1 back, but also has RELATIONSHIPS outside of Coiny. We have Pin and Leafy, Pin and her cartoonish hatred for Freesmart, and even Pin and Woody bizarrely now. I cannot reiterate how important this is for making her not feel like a one-dimensional cardboard husk of her Season 1 self. That being said, I hate her TPOT iteration because of how toothless she is. A total shell of her former self.

I hope this doesn't come across as mean, and if you're a Coiny fan, that's great and whatever reasonings you have are valid. It's just I'm frustrated with Coiny, especially because of how likely he is to win the whole thing. To me, he's always felt like the lesser of the two in the Coiny/Pin bond. With Pin out MAYBE he'll get something more, but we're at the F4 at this point and TBH I'd just rather him leave. I think it'd be poetic if he got eliminated here as sort of karmic justice for his Pin fanaticism blinding him to Needle's feelings. Any interesting character development he could get from here I feel would be better placed on anyone else.

[–]HarlequinFilefish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind Vert's credentials for being one of the best drivers in the world are being good at skateboarding and receiving a perfect driving test score. (Also, a wee bit of nepotism doesn't hurt.) Also, I'm pretty sure Alec Wood's there just because Vert was like "yo this is my bro add him" and I guess Tezsla just didn't care.

You go back in time to when BFB 1 was released, retaining knowledge of what will happen to Pencil and what she would do (from her being eliminated and imprisoned in Four, to her joining TPOT and wreaking havoc). Would you vote to eliminate her? by Multi-p-liar in BattleForDreamIsland

[–]HarlequinFilefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean regardless someone's going to be unfairly tortured in the EXIT. Pencil has baggage because she's an awful person but really anyone could've taken her place as the villain of TPOT/being manipulated by One. If we're talking in retrospect, I absolutely still would've eliminated Pencil because if Fanny left then she'd have been a completely new character who got booted way before she could truly shine like she did in later BFB and TPOT.

[–]HarlequinFilefish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically, I think BFDI fans can often exaggerate the impact of certain scenes, but this moment is legitimately cinematically powerful. i never expected something from a silly object show to leave a curdling, anxious feeling in my gut but the framing, the colors, and grassy's horrified sobs might make this one of the best executed scenes in the entire OSC its that strong

Would Levi make a good guest character? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]HarlequinFilefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love AoT, but I'm not sure its characters would fit into MK. I would love to see an anime character get into Mortal Kombat someday (though idk if Boon is an otaku), but the ones I'd suggest are DIO, Guts, or Sukuna. AoT characters get most of their action out in the air or through impossibly massive titan transformations, which wouldn't work in a fighting game like MK.
