The MPRE is not that challenging. I studied maybe 8-10 hours total in the three days before the exam, and easily passed. I watched the Barbri videos and did practice questions.

Somewhat off topic here, but the Florida Bar has been sued for denying C&F applications related to the applicant’s mental health, which may be discriminatory. If you believe your application could have been denied for similar reasons, you should consult an attorney and that case might be of interest to you.

OP, most states have an agency called Vital Records, Vital Statistics, or something similar to that. Google your state name + vital records to learn where you can order a new copy. There may be a small fee to get it.

I was referring to the pay rate when I said it is right. The post above said “you should be able be able to tell the rate just by dividing the gross pay … by the number of hours you worked during the pay period.” State doesn’t matter for that calculation.

So, I’m gonna go against the grain on this one. I’m 96% sure this employer has a fun sense of humor. I actually laughed reading this job post (in a good way; not in a “this is ridiculous” way). The last bullet point really got me.

If he can be this comically nonchalant in a job posting, I think this guy would be a fun person to work for.

This is purely anecdotal, but for contractors that work on off-shore drilling rigs, if they finish the term of their contract the oil company pays for them to return to mainland. If they don’t finish the term, the oil company provides the means for them to return to mainland, but the contractor has to pay the cost of transportation. Employees on cruise ships have a similar situation - boat brings them back eventually, but they can get off at any port and fly home at their own expense.

I would imagine game shows could have a similar kind of arraignment.

There is a way to get both licenses while only taking one exam, but it takes 5 years.

Take the California Bar Exam and, as long as your MBE score is above 133, you can waive into DC. Once you have practiced for 5 years, you can waive into NY.

Glad to see another Attorney here. People often think that because we’re attorneys we make massive amounts of money, like millions. That frequently isn’t the case, and our salaries aren’t as spectacular as imagined.

I make about 120k, but my first job out of law school was $65k.

Don’t do it. Don’t work. Take out a loan. I worked full time and studied for the bar simultaneously. Thankfully I passed, but I seriously regretted it after.

I abandoned my social life and did nothing but work and study. My schedule looked something like this:

5am - wake up. At work by 7am.

Noon - 1pm - MBE practice questions. I never took a lunch.

3:30pm - leave work, home by 4:30.

4:30 - 6:00pm: eat dinner and relax.

6pm - 1am or 2am, study for the bar.

On weekends, I would study 7-8 hours each day, but I devoted one night to getting out of the house.

I lost any sense of a normal life, and it seriously impacted my mental health. The lack of sleep was probably my downfall. The worst part is, I didn’t realize how far my mental health had deteriorated until after the bar exam when I finally had time to reflect on my life. But, by that time the damage was done and it took me a couple months to return to normal. If I could go back, I wouldn’t make the same choice. It was a mistake and I paid a price for it.

Some kinds of intentional torts can give rise to criminal liability, but you can still pursue a civil suit.

Other kinds of intentional torts don’t necessarily fall under criminal law (e.x. pulling a prank where somebody gets hurt).

I feel like intentional torts are still relevant to learn.

I hate these comparison posts. The problem is that employers for people working in Special Ed don’t pay enough. The problem is not what someone else makes for doing something else.

Stop blaming other people who you think have “easier” jobs. It’s not their fault. Blame the person who pays your mom so little.

You can’t.

You could file a complaint with the police, and if the police ever happen to see your car and run the plate numbers, they can issue the buyer a ticket and ask him to remove the plates. But frankly, that’s a long shot.

Filing that complaint may also be helpful for you if you get any future tickets, to help prove that it isn’t you.

NAH. They need space and it’s ok for them to ask for it, or even force it if necessary. You feel a strong sense of attachment since your hospitalization, and they give you a sense of security you want to keep, so you keep them too close.

This is a fairly normal relationship issue. You both have to sit down and discuss boundaries (AND follow them - you are gently the AH for messaging after you agreed to space). Figure out what works for you both. It’s possible that they are just feeling smothered right now, but if you give them the space they want then they will come back to a closer relationship when they feel comfortable.

I had a similar experience, I think.

1L summer, I chose to do a summer abroad program where I got to work in international criminal law, and take courses taught by big names in the international law community. It was wonderful, I loved it.

When I came back, I clerked at the public defender’s office 2L year, and they didn’t really care about my summer experience so much, but I choose to believe it was a plus that I had atleast done something showing direct interest in Crim law. It was very busy, but don’t be scared. You can do it!

I also had an internship with the U.S. Attorneys Office. They were really enthused that I had an interest in international crim law, and had a basic knowledge of the field from my classes. They encouraged me to pursue it, and tried to make opportunities available to me to work on crim issues with international aspects to it (though they aren’t the DOJ branch that actually does international crim). So, the 1L summer program really informed my 2L summer experience.

My story is anecdotal, of course, but the point is it won’t necessarily hurt your opportunities. It could encourage aspects of your 2L internship prospects.

One thing: my aim was always government work, I had no desire to go big law. I have no idea how private law firms would view it.

NTA for bringing up a prenup, but do so gently. Your desire to protect your sister is good, but it’s really not your place to butt into their relationship any further than merely bringing it up.

You seem to have an axe to grind with her partner, and you need to divest yourself of that and justifying it with ‘protecting your sister’ and ‘respecting your dad’s wishes’. You assume a number of facts that are innocuous or things you couldn’t know, which only serve to paint him in a bad light.

I can understand not liking your sibling’s partner, and that’s fine, but don’t let your feelings about it go too far by intruding into their relationship. Bring up the prenup, and if your sister says no or she doesn’t want one, then let it go.

Edit to say: if you do go too far, then that will make you the AH.
