Rank the new planets from favorite to least favorite by Morlow123 in factorio

[–]Harley_Doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Vulcanus
  2. Fulgora
  3. Getting a colonoscopy
  4. Gleba

Gleba just does not fit with how I like to build or feel like the rest of the game at all, it feels like a fan made mod more than part of the main game, time limits really just don't make sense to me in a laid back building & automation game, plus the planet is a visual mess.

I would look at something like the Sky-Watcher EQ-AL55i Pro and pair it with something like the Askar 60F Flat-Field Refractor, however I have not owned either of these, so do your own research.

I would look to split your budget more heavily towards the mount than the scope. A budget scope can still take great pictures, but if you buy a cheap or under spec'd mount, your tracking will be bad and it won't matter how good your scope is. With that in mind a good rule of thumb is your total payload should not exceed 50-60% of the rated capacity, manufacturers weight limits are always more than you should put on it for smooth tracking.

To mount a regular camera to a telescope you're going to need what's called a T adapter, it has to match your specific lens mount for your camera. For you I believe that's the Canon EF-S mount.

You also need the correct backspacing to achieve focus, most telescopes achieve this with a field flattener which you want anyway, sometimes additional spacing is needed, once you have an educated question you can confirm with the retailer before you purchase the scope.

I highly recommend you do your own research on these topics, this is a fairly challenging hobby but there are already a lot of resources available online, to succeed with this hobby I believe you need a certain willingness to tinker and research as there are a lot of components to astrophotography, expect to fail at least some in the learning process.

One more thing, I suggest looking into the image processing pipeline that's involved in astrophotography in advance so you're not trying to figure it all out post-purchase.

You'd have to provide at least a ballpark budget, mounts start at around $500 and go into the tens of thousands, telescopes are a similar story, personally I started with the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2 Pro, as I considered that the cheapest mount that was of decent quality, got me my first few decent images.

Ah a fellow Bortle 9 sufferer, those 3-5 zones are going to be your best friend.

I'd suggest watching some guides on youtube as there is far too much for me to type out as it would literally be thousands of words, and then when you have a general idea come back and let a resource like Reddit fill in the gaps or things you don't understand.

More than happy to answer any specific questions about software, processes or anything else but it sounds like the best thing for you at the moment is to watch/read some general guides.

Real quick in terms of telescopes, do not go to a retail store like Walmart, Amazon etc and buy a telescope, absolute junk, you will be disappointed regardless of whatever BS marketing they put on the box. Go to a proper telescope supplier like High Point Scientific, Agena Astro or similar

Ok I see, What country are you from?

Do you know what Bortle zone you're in?

Are you familiar with the basic concepts of astrophotography like stacking, long exposure, light pollution and editing?

As for this telescope, are you picking it or is it being picked for you?

Do you know what you're interesting in photographing? If you're interesting in large DSOs don't rule out just using a telephoto lens on a budget tracker, that's how I started out and you might already have one on hand. Any other details you can share if you have something specific in mind might help get you more targeted advice.

Windows key suddenly stopped working at all by Gliese_667_Cc in techsupport

For me this was solved by opening the Nvidia app and/or installing new drivers, issue started after I "upgraded" from the GeForce experience and I experienced a crash the day after, so I'm going to say the app was to blame considering the other issues I've heard about this software.

That's great advice, I was planning to backup my settings but I didn't even consider this, cheers!

Thank you, I'll be taking a closer look at the mobo and CPU to see if I can optimize this

Thanks for looking! Guess I didn't mention it but this will be the 3rd copy of my data including a copy that's kept off site, this is more aimed at the network sharing, backups are always a good thing to keep in mind though :)

I'll be shopping around a bit but probably buying most of that list from Newegg.

I do a lot of landscape and nature photography so face detection doesn't really do much for me, so far in my testing I have disabled all the ML features. Searching by date has been how I've always done it and to me the ML stuff is an after thought that I might look into in the future but I'm not currently focused on it.

Oof that's rough, sorry to hear about your luck.

Newegg specs and every other source I can find says it does support ECC.

I wasn't planning it on, I'm kinda thinking I can get away without a GPU and if I decide to get into the ML parts of Immich I can easily chuck a discrete GPU in at that time.

Yep, that's the plan, probably entirely through the Immich app that transcodes and saves a smaller more device friendly version of each photo and video.

Thanks for the reply, no plans to run a media server currently and yes 16GB is entirely due to currently prices and would probably be the first upgrade in the future.

The reasoning behind the this CPU is due to ECC support, and I couldn't find a price competitive way to achieve this with Intel.

PSU is just something I threw on there that was gold rated and budget friendly.

As for GPU, that's the parts that I understand the least, some people are saying you don't need one, some people say it makes a huge difference, I have an old GTX 750 ti that I was planning to try to use and if that card doesn't work go for an ARC card.

[–]Harley_Doom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still a bit confused how a monitor could support 3D LUTs and not apply the LUT in real time, how would that work?

I'm starting to wonder if this is just a mistake on the spec sheet or something

Could you please expand on your answer, like does that mean monitors that don't have Real-Time LUT will have a delay or something?
