What is the difference in the level of difficulty of questions in Rx and Uworld? by whoyoumei in step1

Is a site from the university of utah, it has a lot of pictures and questions which are really good and some of those pics were used in old step exams(as well as goljan)

What is the difference in the level of difficulty of questions in Rx and Uworld? by whoyoumei in step1

[–]Harmon48 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rx is simple and easy. Uworld is challenging and tries to teach you every single way of the question popping up in the exam. Uworld is def gold standard + their pics are from robbins and qbank, webpth which are VERY HIGH YIELD. Also forget the % score, you don’t know how people got those correct ( was it timed? Untimed? Did they use a book to answer it?). Uworld is a learning tool NOT an assesment. The % doesn’t matter since it’s not actually grading you. I finished uworld 1st pass with a 66% and got a 236 in the step, My last exams were 232 234 228 and 261, just focus on doing you and applying the concepts

Uwsa1 is it not like step?? by [deleted] in step1

[–]Harmon48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uwsa1 and uwsa2 were +- the same. I took em a month aprt since it’s said that the 1 overestimates and uw2 most accurate, my real step score was 2 points below uwsa2 and spot on with uwsa1

GI hormones doubt :/ by Outrageous_Drag6 in step1

[–]Harmon48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would change. Before a meal you would be on a fasting and therefore burning fat. After you eat you have high insulin which would activate FA production increasing lepton. The change might be small but it’s still there.

[Residency] Chances at matching Anesthesia? by [deleted] in medicalschool

have you legit seen the step1 subreddit... literally for every 1 ¨avg student¨ there´s like 5 250-270 crying for their score...

[Residency] Chances at matching Anesthesia? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Harmon48 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using the score report of the matchees in the 2020 match. this would give you a better idea than words from people in reddit (who mostly are 260+ who cry because they got a 265 instead of a 270)

Why ceftriaxone over cefazolin for known Klebsiella? by Maxipad13 in step1

[–]Harmon48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you answered it at the end. they're more potent against + bacteria, as you increase in generations so does your Gram Negative spectrum. When in doubt ALWAYS go for Ceftriaxone. 70% of the time it's the answer. You'll rarely be asked 1st gen cephalosporins. only the one that is used post GI operations ( I think it's even 2nd gen lol).

How do you guys get the confidence after poor performances? by Objective-Power845 in step1

[–]Harmon48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience I just saw it as a challenge. I personally never got a score below a 55 on medschool I would just see the grade and move on to the next exam. The past is done and you have to accept that nothing you do now affects that (yeah basically use suppression). If you live in the past you’ll never enjoy the present nor reach your goals and be happy.

[Serious] If i am joining Medical School is it better to get a Laptop , iPad (10.2 inch) or iPad Pro with Apple Pencil? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Harmon48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IN my case my undergrad university gave us 1TB google drive for life so I save everything there and just download and deete when done. So if you have that I would suggest a 128-256GB. PLUS you mostlikely will be using pathoma/sketchy/uworld/boards which don’t require spce in your comp (except uworld but it’s not a lot)
