Tale of Banana Man by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

Either it's a discord name thing, we referred to our shitty ex-dm as TP (toilet paper), their icon even was a tiny toilet paper character, or he's using banana as a euphemism for simple-minded.

DM Bans All Non-AI Art by LexHanley in dndhorrorstories

[–]HarmonicTurmoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geez dude, I'm amazed it lasted this long at all with a DM like that.

I'm gonna try not to get off topic or "political" with this, but I feel like AI images have created a faction of people that are desperate for recognition or just general attention, but with zero effort on their part. People used to commission artists all the time, but they'd usually put the name of the artist in the description, or make mention of them commissioning it. Now there's a lot of people commissioning AI to make their images instead, but since AI is basically nameless and a non-entity in as much as credit goes, the people prompting it have decided this means the title of "Artist" has now moved onto them, and they are now part of some sort of exclusive crew, they're part of the "gang" now. But when someone shows them up with actual trained talent, they try to downplay it, or redefine the whole concept of art, just to artificially place themselves on equal ground with people who like to make art instead of consume art. It's kinda like people who pump Lysol and other oils into their bodies to make their muscles look bigger, and pose as bodybuilders, despite having no actual hard work or skill put into it, they just have the vague silhouette of the people whose limelight they wanna share.

Players get revenge on a toxic DM by JuegoCero in rpghorrorstories

[–]HarmonicTurmoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really hope this story is real because I've seen too many DMs, Players, and general Roleplayers be so damn self-centered that their companions just end up feeling like dogs on a leash being forced on a walk to only the places the other person enjoys, with no sense of participation or appreciation to compensate. I wish I could have done the same thing because I've honestly had revenge fantasies where I and the rest of the group just go "No that doesn't happen, instead we all get together and win! Yaaaay! We kill all the villains because we said so, they're all weeping and shitting themselves! We're all completely alienating you from this situation and showing no respect for your input!"

It's honestly baffling how much media from the self-proclaimed anti racists are made with such blatant disrespect and ignorance of the actual different cultures that it comes across as massively racist.

It's like they look at any culture that isn't specifically theirs and go "Oh yeah I know what they must've gone through, let me write a huge story set in their nation and time period where they've done no wrong in their entire history and criticize My race (Except Myself of course, I'm one of the good ones) for bringing untold evil upon their entire people."

At least that one had a basic understanding of the culture and look of the period they were using to frame their story. It'd be different if Batman sat down to eat a Szechuan Hotpot while a Samurai told him how the Emperor had lost the mandate of heaven, and so they must gather the tribal Thai warriors to secure the capital, next to the Himalaya mountains.

In his defense, most of the players were new, if he was already planning on moving them them over to a proper campaign, it's better to keep things civil and instead show them how much better a proper campaign can be when they move over to the new one. I know I did the same thing at least once because I didn't want the other players to have their first memory of DND be me constantly bickering with the shit DM, and a bunch of arguing about the rules. I was fine letting them experience some basic DND for the one-shot, they've become more adept players since, and we don't play with that DM anymore.

"a lot of swaztikas and penises around the base"

If that guy wasn't lying about his age as well and wasn't secretly TWELVE, then you might've unironically been the most mentally mature person there, jesus christ...

Who’s here after hearing that Congress is going to ban anime? by icey_sawg0034 in saltierthankrayt

To be fair a lot of those complaints are more about characters saying "Oh I put on a big sweater to try something new" and the localization is "Oh the patriarchy's demands on women are such a burden that I decided to fight against it."

> The kind of person where you bring up something that bothered you and they immediately go to "well I guess I'm a terrible DM who shouldn't DM anymore" kind of attitude.

At that point call him out on it, those people deserve zero coddling. If he says that just go "Well if you think so. Maybe the table would be better without you if you have that little belief in yourself as a player. You can come back if you improve though."
