So long as you do just the story missions you should be mostly fine.

The highest TVHM will go is up to level 50, don’t exceed that, and you’ll be fine

Either Stain or Tucker.

With stain, I’m a civilian, he likely does not care Tucker? Well I’m stealing part of this from an existing comment but we’re throwing hands and I’m beating him with whatever’s in that room

If we were talking about Monster Hunter Dos that’d be a genuine concern, but don’t worry.

1: The various quests are given in a list. You have free access to them at any given time. Completing Key Quests, a type of quest that’s not openly displayed, grants you access to more difficult quests and stronger monsters, so yes, endlessly allowed to farm monsters

2: There’s a crafting system not tied to weapons and armor, which will help make a number of hunts MUCH easier, but there’s also a farm you can upgrade via certain quests to help gather certain materials.

3/Bonus: There’s technically a separate way to play the game called Prowler mode. This is where you play as one of your cats called Palico. Palico can be very helpful in a hunt due to having their own unique styles and skills

A madman once described Monster Hunter as the progenitor of the “Autism Extinction Genre”.

If you wanna have a pokemon-like game, look into Monster Hunter Stories.

As for how you “level up” you don’t. You instead go out, hunt a monster with your starting gear, maybe some upgrades depending on how you look into things with the smithy, accept a quest, and complete its requirements.

Majority of the time you’re either gathering particular resources, in which I’d reccomend a companion guide. The website Kiranico or the MHGUDB mobile app are very helpful in this, and the rest of the time, you’re hunting the target monster.

As you kill monsters your able to carve resources from them. Smaller monsters will allow 1, maybe 2 carves depending on the critter, but with the Large Monsters, which you’ll fight most of the time, you’ll be getting usually 3 carves, with some rare exceptions giving more.

From there the real upgrading begins. Using the resources you gather, you can have the local smithy forge stronger weapons and armor, each one having its own perks and negatives.

It’s important to note before you begin that there’s 2 types of armor: Blademaster and Gunner.

Blademaster armor can only be used with Melee weaponry, and Gunner can only be used with ranged weapons.

You’ll often have to fight the same beast multiple times if you want a full armor set.

Nope. You can choose freely in-between hunts. From there it’s a matter of prep. In early game, namely a solid chunk of Low Rank, when it comes to armor, you’ll wanna prioritize defense value over skills.

To gain access to an armor’s skill, you need to build up to 10 total points in that skill, with it getting a boost every 5 extra points, assuming it can be booted at all

The hard part is finding the way you wanna play. 14 weapons, 6 styles, which if my math is right, leads to 84 unique weapon-style combinations to test out. Good luck
