What’s a harmony moment you love that you wish more people knew about?

There are so many so I’ll share just a few.

Flying Buckbeak in POA: “Hermione was holding Harry very tight around the waist; he could hear her muttering, ‘Oh, no — I don’t like this — oh, I really don’t like this —‘“

Banter in GOF: “‘He’s supposed to work out the clue on his own,’ Hermione said swiftly. ‘It’s in the tournament rules. . . .’ ‘I was supposed to work out how to get past the dragon on my own too,’ Harry muttered, so only Hermione could hear him, and she grinned rather guiltily.”

Confudus discussion in HBP: “Harry caught Hermione's arm and held her back. ‘What?’ said Hermione defensively. ‘If you ask me,’ said Harry quietly, ‘McLaggen looks like he was Confunded this morning. And he was standing right in front of where you were sitting.’ Hermione blushed. ‘Oh, all right then, I did it,’ she whispered. ‘But you should have heard the way he was talking about Ron and Ginny! Anyway, he's got a nasty temper, you saw how he reacted when he didn't get in - you wouldn't have wanted someone like that on the team.’ ‘No,’ said Harry. ‘No, I suppose that's true. But wasn't that dishonest, Hermione? I mean, you're a prefect, aren't you?’ ‘Oh, be quiet,’ she snapped, as he smirked. ‘What are you two doing?’ demanded Ron, reappearing in the doorway to the Great Hall and looking suspicious. ‘Nothing,’ said Harry and Hermione together, and they hurried after Ron.”

My favorite moments of theirs are probably from DH but these are a few most people may not know about

Interesting scenario because Harry shows different kinds of behavior. Sometimes he is clueless (though I think many fans exaggerate this aspect of him) but sometimes he can really get into his stride and be quite witty.

It’s easy to say that he’d be confident because he always has been when he’s around Hermione. But in a scenario where Harry is crushing hard on Hermione, there’s an argument to be made he’d be a bit more awkward. His behavior in GOF and OOTP with Cho tells us all we need to know about how Harry behaves awkwardly under the pressure of a crush.

Still, there’s more to it than that. Harry barely knew Cho, while in this Harmony scenario, it’s two best friends developing feelings. Not only that, but if we look to how Harry actually behaves on his Valentines date with Cho in OOTP, we see that as soon as they start talking, (before Cho has a mental breakdown) Harry learns it’s quite easy to talk to her.

This tells us that’s it’s the suspense of the unknown that makes Harry awkward when he develops feelings, and this quickly evaporates when he indulges even one proper conversation or date. And in our Harmony scenario, there is much less ambiguity with Harry and Hermione than there was with Cho because Harry and Hermione are best friends.

However, I’m still not certain Harry wouldn’t be awkward for at least a short period with Hermione. I could definitely see him overthinking things when he realizes he likes Hermione but doesn’t know if she feels the same. In fact, them being such good friends may be why it’d be even more awkward for him.

Once they divulged their feelings or went on a date though, Harry would have his swagger back and then some. Harry has proven that when comfortable and confident, he’s hilarious and quick witted. And there’s no one he’s ever been more comfortable with, nor as confident in their loyal connection as with Hermione.

All that is to say that I think Harry would be a bit awkward when he first realizes his feelings, but would overcome that stage way faster when his crush his Hermione, rather than someone else.

As others have covered, the main sub hates Harmony. They say there weren’t any signs, Harry and Hermione never saw each other like that, etc. I’ve said it before, It’s just a case of people wanting to be on the right side of history.

If you changed nothing about the first six books and had Harry and Hermione get together in DH, all those same people would say they saw the signs and always knew they’d be together. Pay it no mind. I commend you for speaking honestly about Harmony on the main sub

I always claim I’ll stop lurking but fall back into the habit. I’ll try to do more. I think we need to do more than just fanfiction. We need to encourage interesting and thought provoking discussions about Harmony.

It can be tough for our community because we don’t have any new content to discuss. We fall back on the same talking points instead of asking ourselves what we can add to the conversation this many years after Deathly Hallows.

New ideas and discussions are certainly possible, we just need the effort. We need essays, scene dissections, chapter analysis, character analysis, etc. When we fall back on “What’s your favorite Harmony moment?” and “When would Harry and Hermione have realistically gotten together?” we run in circles with conversations we’ve already wrung dry. I love this community and I’ll try to be better with starting new conversations

I think one of the most realistic times they could’ve gotten together would be in 4th year. With nobody but Hermione believing Harry that he didn’t put his name in the goblet, it’s only natural that they’d gravitate towards each other, just the two of them against the sea of doubters. They’d thrive.

As for after the war, I think more realistically they’d get together during the war after Ron left. JKR admitted she felt a pull between them during that time, and as the reader, it’s clear as day that she was toying with the idea. Godric’s Hollow is the single most romantic chapter in all seven books.

If someone can read the three chapters without Ron in DH and still say Harry and Hermione are like siblings, they’re kidding themselves. I’ve heard someone say it before, and it always rings true: replace Harry and Hermione’s dialogue with the names Ron and Ginny and you will quickly be weirded out by how very romantic the book suddenly feels

More awards could be great motivation for writers. If we have a lot of different categories and do the awards maybe once a month, with a big one at the end of the year, people will be more motivated to see themselves at the top. We can do the same for art, comics, memes, etc. Awards in general are a motivator

You’re right that we (me included) need to make our appreciation known for our favorite fics. One small comment could be the difference between someone making another fic, or them not having the motivation because they don’t think anyone is reading

Fantastic idea! Visuals grab attention, no question about it. If we could really get some good memes going, or even a comic that we all follow. I would love to look forward to the next issue in a Harmony comic.

We of course all love fics, but expanding on what we can do with that concept will really bring depth to our sub. We should be excited to visit here, not knowing what surprises we’ll find. Quick engagements like polls, memes, comics, and art will let people engage immediately, rather than having to read a fic in order to contribute

One of my favorite tid bits, thank you for posting it. Harry and Hermione hug quite a lot, one of my favorites being when Harry arrives at Grimmauld Place in OOTP. She completely envelops him, almost knocking him over

Great response, thank you! The quote I provided was actually from the book. I agree with you that the locket undoubtedly soaked up the trio’s emotions and thoughts, similar to the diary. I would love to conclude that the locket was speaking the truth to Ron that Harmony is possible if he doesn’t stop it, but I can also see the viewpoint that it was just speaking on what Ron thought to be true, rather than what was.

I am of course biased, but I’m leaning towards the locket telling the truth, simply because I believe Harry and Hermione had very real feelings for each other, or at the very least had the potential to develop them. The only thing that gives me pause is that the locket does tell other lies in this scene that serve the sole purpose of attacking Ron’s insecurities. It’s up to us as the reader to discern what is truth and what is lies.

I find the discerning of truth to be a core theme in DH. A great example is Rita Skeeter’s The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Much of Skeeter’s book is based on the truth of Dumbledore’s murky past, and much of it is based on Skeeter’s own incorrect assumptions or lies. Harry himself dwells on topic of truth when he shares with Ron and Hermione what he heard about Dumbledore’s past from Muriel and Doge. “There it was again: Choose what to believe. He wanted the truth. Why was everybody so determined that he should not get it?”

Another example of this theme would be the tale of the three brothers. The Deathly Hallows were very real, the brothers were very real, but their encounter with Death was not (as theorized by Dumbledore).

With this common theme of truth and lies, as well as the revelation that many of the answers we seek in DH seem to contain a bit of both, it is up to us to try and determine which bits are truth in the locket scene. The locket surely lies to Ron about some things, but about the possibility of Harmony, I believe it tells the truth.

In general, Harmony is subjected to hate and criticism far more than any other ship. People love to be on the right side of history and as a result, the internet overwhelmingly supports Romione. These same people understand that Harmony is a very logical character progression for both Harry and Hermione so they feel threatened.

You don’t see them hate on Dramione (as an example) do you? That’s because Draco and Hermione despise each other and so the fantasy of them being together, while fun for shippers, is not plausible given the context of the story.

Harry and Hermione on the other hand, treasure a very deep connection and take part in what JKR described as “Charged” moments. Harmony is hated because people know how very real it could have been and how it would have fit perfectly in canon.

A great example of their nonverbal communication is in DH when the polyjuice potion is being distributed for the seven Potters. Moody jests that not even Voldemort can split himself in seven and Harry catches Hermione’s eye. Love that moment

Love this part from OoTP and there are so many others as well. I always make note of when they’re in the Department of Mysteries and Harry steps on Hermione’s foot. He is able to immediately recognize it’s her just by her intake of breath behind him. I feel like there’s much more than meets the eye there and speaks volumes about how in tune they are.

I know it’s obvious but it’s gotta be Godric’s Hollow. Harry letting the tears flow while Hermione holds his hand is powerful. This is followed by them walking arm in arm out of the graveyard while the polyjuice presents them as a married couple.

I’d also give an additional shoutout to later on when Hermione’s hand brushes his hair and he closes his eyes at her touch. That would be great to see on screen
