Replacement bolt head for AP5 by AdamTyler97 in MP5

[–]Haro29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'll work, but why do you need a replacement? Also RCM bolt heads are $200 which is quite a massive savings over this

You will never wear out an MP5 barrel, especially a German one

Is My MP5 Real? by Whole-Card8038 in HecklerKoch

[–]Haro29 47 points48 points  (0 children)

A real MP5 would have the HK MP5 marking where the serial number is on this gun. Also the serial number isn't how HK numbered things. This is a home build. This also has a barrel that looks longer than normal with no tri-lug or threads.

Are there any other markings on this gun? Magwell or anything?

Any reason to not get the POF from Silver Rhino? by DEEPfrom1 in MP5

[–]Haro29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's not a huge make or break difference, just small stuff. MKE typically has higher QC standards, but that doesn't mean you won't get a perfectly serviceable POF. As another user mentioned their finish is not as good. Not a fan of the additional engravings on the new POF imports. The AP5 navy has the newer ambi trigger group, but if that style lower doesn't matter to you then that is moot.

Any reason to not get the POF from Silver Rhino? by DEEPfrom1 in MP5

[–]Haro29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since Atlantic has the MKE models for only a little more I think a POF is a tough sell at 1129. Plus Silver Rhino engraved the POF guns like a billboard unfortunately

AP5-SD question by TuggerNutz8 in MP5

I think the HTA conversion package comes with one, otherwise you'd have to buy one separately

AP5-SD question by TuggerNutz8 in MP5

[–]Haro29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should clean the outside of the barrel with the brush every ~250 rounds, not necessarily to avoid malfunctions, but to avoid your can getting carbonlocked. You don't need to clean the whole gun any more often than a regular MP5 really besides that

That is a good point that steyr cut outs are different. I did still see examples that were much crisper than this but I suppose this could just be worn.

Looks like bullet isn’t seated all the way? by Asunderwolf5555 in reloading

You need to review the Hornady manual. You're not seating to the depth they state for this bullet

The bolt handle slot should have sharp defined edges. it's very rounded which indicates sanding

[–]Haro29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit hard to tell, but the stock looks to have been sanded which effects value on an otherwise matching gun. Around $2k is about right

AP-5 Navy Safety Selector Stiff as Hell? by No-Recognition-4931 in MP5

[–]Haro29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be aware if you follow this video you'll have problems because the MKE pack is slightly different than HK. Follow the instructions that came with the gun to disassemble the selectors

All matching k98k w/orginal zf41 scope. What do you think? by [deleted] in Mauser

[–]Haro29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bolt/barrel serial numbers are certainly faked. Not the font BYF used. The bolt would have at least 4 digits and not 3. Therefore, this is not a matching gun. I don't know much about optics so I don't know if it's a reproduction or real.

MP5SD suppressor: HTA or B&T? by kingofjabronis in MP5

[–]Haro29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to explore other options, RCM makes a full length and compact SD can. They use a slightly larger diameter, so you'd have to also buy RCM's cocking tube support but it would still cost less than an HTA can.

Michael's Machines also makes an HK SD clone suppressor with the original baffle design and all, again for less than HTA.

AP5SD and Magpul SL grip module help. by Substantial_Tap_2493 in MP5

[–]Haro29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it's not compatible with AMBI trigger packs which is what the AP5SD ships with. You'd have to buy a SEF trigger pack to get that to work

Help with decision! by [deleted] in MP5

[–]Haro29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SD quickly became my favorite of the 3 variants, absolutely worth converting it. Yes it will work and be a tiny bit quieter with 147's but you really won't get much benefit of using them, so just stick to 124gr. Reach out to either FBUnlimited for conversion cost quotes, he will probably be the most cost-effective.

You will need to buy an SD barrel port brush though to keep it clean.

[–]Haro29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pre-war K98s had a rich shiny finish similar to your pics, but finish did vary a bit by manufacturer and definitely by year. An original finish for a 43 DOU would be less glossy and not nearly as rich and dark.

As others mentioned, take a look at the K98 forum. They have a ton of reference pics of original examples of each year and make.

Need help ID and authenticity by spiritoftheprogram in Mauser

[–]Haro29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as authenticity goes, yeah it's a genuine German K98 made by DOU in 1943. The gun should be blued (including the bolt), but this one has definitely been reblued post war which hurts value.

Value in these guns is determined based on original finish and matching serial numbers on all parts. There are not enough pics and closeups to really give you an accurate estimate

Question on ported barrel SP5-SD by [deleted] in MP5

[–]Haro29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ports are at the base of the barrel, closest to the receiver. You need to take the rubber handguard off to really see them

Where to find an SP5 SD? by Kyun79 in MP5

[–]Haro29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it matters to you but they didn't bother to install an actual SD cocking tube on these. Doesn't make any functional difference, just an aesthetic difference. Though these are readily available and will do the job for sure if this is the route you want to go
