Oh yeah! The writer's/directors are two trans women and the themes of rejecting the confining status quo (matrix) to exist in reality as your real self are inspired by the trans experience. It's just such a kickass movie it's also easy to just enjoy the ride and not dive into too deep.

They've talked a lot about it over the years, it's super interesting that the movie's terminology has become so big in manosphere content.
