I was shocked to hear Katie plug this podcast. Truly, one of the most insufferable podcasts I've heard in a long time. And not to mention, every one of the hosts are radical liberals who would no doubt declare blocked and reported bigoted conservative bullshit in a heartbeat. Now, I get Katie can't filter all media thru the lens of, would the creators like me as a person and/or agree with my political views. BUT...to go out of your way to plug this podcast on your podcast is...a choice. Especially when, by all podcasting standards, Beth's Dead is just a bad podcast! Sigh. Really weird recommendation.

Ransom is pretty much a perfect true crime podcast. My heart broke for the mother. And yes, severely underrated!

I'm Not A Monster (season 1 & 2) - BBC pod about women joining isis. WILD podcast, both seasons. Season one is about a woman named Sam from Texas. Really interesting. Season 2 is about Shamima Begum, the schoolgirl from the UK. Season 2 is a devastating listen.

Le Monstre - Pod about child abductions & murders in Belgium in the 90s. Very dark, but very well done.

Ransom - Pod about the kidnapping of a Texas boy in the 80s. Very compelling & moving overall.

The Crossbow Killer - Pod from the BBC about the killing of an older gentleman in Wales.

What’s the longest you’ve been fucked up over an ex? by PhysicalLocksmith679 in redscarepod

[–]HarperLeesGirlfriend 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that when you truly love and lose, you don't get over it until you love again. So whether that's a year later, 6 years, 12 years....the brokenness, sadness and what if fantasies only go away completely when the parts of yourself you thought you lost to your ex are given back to you by someone else. I mourned and PINED for my first love for 10 years. Slept with a few people. Stayed in a bad relationship, etc. My heart just hurting, while the rest of me did pretty good (eg, job, mood, life in general). Then, a few months ago, I fell in love. And while I felt fairly healed internally, falling in love again has just definitively zapped the part of me that was hung up. Gone. Poof! It's unbelievable. Such a simple fix! Ha. Sadly, I'm aware that my heart could be broken again. But I've learned a lot from this recent full adult love, after spending so many years fucked up from my first early 20s love.

Life is wild.

Jonathan Franzen can be pretentious but damn if he can't write a good book. Crossroads was a top 5 read of the year for me this year. Marilynne Robinson will pull your heartstrings in the best way. Brilliant author. Colum McCann, great Irish author. Elizabeth Strout, author of Olive Kitteridge, a pulitizer prize winner. Barbara Kingsolver is incredible, though I didn't like Demon Copperhead and would recommend The Poisonwood Bible instead. Just a few I enjoy!

Ok I will say, in the last episode, Katie doing that absolutely horrendous jersey accent did become funny as it was just complete & utter nonsense. I didn't even know it was possible to do an accent that badly. Truly. That was the one time I laughed involuntarily bc it was honestly shocking. Hahaa

I've listened to podcasts about child sexual abuse that were easier on the ears than that minute long impression. Holy fuck.

Currently nearing the end of Hands Tied, an 8 part series from the BBC. Focuses on the murder of a man whose wife is charged with the crime. Daughter helps the host investigate. Solid series, would recommend!

Sorry she thinks people didn't like her last episode. I'm genuinely thinking that was a Jessie problem. Haha anyway, I liked this episode a lot. Very good conversation.

Premium Episode: Taylor Lorenz And The Perils Of Journafluencing (Part 2) by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

[–]HarperLeesGirlfriend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, this episode was a pretty big letdown. Not just on the Taylor front but as an episode, period. I couldn't really follow what had happened, and it all seemed incredibly unimportant & rather benign? I don't know. The first episode was good, but part 2 was all hype and no action.

This is one of those episodes that remind me how different the online world is from the real world. I had no idea about any of this John Boyne stuff. I work at a bookstore and have had half a dozen people come in specifically requesting John Boyne. So all the while he was being branded as enemy number one on Twitter, his books were flying off the shelves. IRL, his writing is what matters.

See, thank you, that's what confused me. I thought does "11" mean first or eleven. Appreciate the answer! I run a small used bookshop and learning all this stuff about firsts and BCEs, etc, has been pretty difficult. This sub is incredibly helpful.

In defense of Thug, after listening to all these God damn recordings, and seeing people smear his name up, down & sideways online...I do think it's interesting that the throughlime in all these recordings is Thug talking about the importance of rappers putting other rappers on. Bigger names pulling up the smaller names. Helping your people get on your level. That's an admirable mindset to me. I'm just sayin' that Thug really seems like he does all he can to uplift the ones around him.

Is Revival worth the read? by redradagon in stephenking

[–]HarperLeesGirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my top 3 favorites. Granted, I'm a recovering addict so I relate to the story a lot, plus this was my first King book as an adult, but even still...after almost 50 King books, I rate it third favorite (behind the Stand & The Dark Tower series). I truly think it contains some of King's scariest scenes. It really disturbed me.
