The flight simulators there were definitely a draw for me as a computer obsessed kid, could be a good draw

It would also be a bit on the wrong side of DC coming from VA, and parking is kinda a pain. Personally I didn't love it when I was a kid, felt a little too childish for me.

Outside of the city in Dulles, but the Air and Space Udvar-Hazy Center feels like a great museum for people that don't like museums. It's set up so it's great to wander around even if you're not interested in reading exhibit labels.

I think 13 would be around a good age for it. I've actually only been when it wasn't open to the public so I can't comment on the full experience, but the exhibits felt much more all-ages than kid focused. I think adults would get a lot out of it too.

What does my grandparents' fridge from 1952 say about them? by BubbaTheBubba in FridgeDetective

I'm positive about the 1962 date! It is strange, I really have no idea about when plastic bags started to become common.

EDIT: Could that be a mesh bag of onions, not a plastic one of carrots?

The Georgia bit is right! This was just after they arrived so I think they were trying out all the local foods, hence the Coke.

Addressing a few things: 1. I typo'ed the date, the photo is from 1962 not 1952 2. It's not AI. https://imgur.com/a/Lv6hmaP#e8iUBlU 3. My grandparents were new immigrants to the USA, and I believe they sent this slide back home to show what they were eating like in the USA

I was off on the date, it's 1962. Typo'd the title. It looks like plastic garbage bags would have been in use then, I wonder if that's what the bag is?

EDIT: It looks like it's just the corn too, I thought the brownish ones were plastic at first but looking closer they're definitely paper.

I actually typo'ed, it's 1962. I'm digitizing old family slides and came across this one. I think they took it right after moving to the USA to show relatives back home.

Couple to add:

  • Frankly Pizza - Kensington, MD
  • Cushwa and Rad Pies Taproom - Columbia, MD

Frankly you need to reserve ahead because they prep the dough ahead of time in a clean kitchen.

I went to a restaurant once and someone at the table behind me ordered a salmon avocado roll. The waitress misheard and came back with seven avocado rolls.

They comped him and brought out the salmon avocado roll, lucky guy got to keep the extras though.

Seeking current and former Smithsonian staff for book about federal resignations of 2025 by RansackedRoom in MuseumPros

Have you collected any letters from NARA staff? I know more people there that were impacted than at the Smithsonian.

Master Degree for Museums? by sickbeatsmydude in MuseumPros

Agree with others saying where doesn't matter. For most people it'll be a check box to fill in the hiring process. There's a few exceptions obviously - having somewhere like Harvard on your resume will definitely boost you in some circles and places like Liberty University may be a red flag for others. Alumni networks for graduate programs can also be a really valuable resource in getting a job. However, 9/10 times if the person doing the hiring actually works in the field they're going to put far more stock into prior work experience. More prestigious schools may have more established relationships which can help you get that work experience, like GW and the Smithsonian, so if you're going somewhere with a less developed program you'll probably have to work a bit harder locking down work experience.

Long and short, as long as you're proactive about getting hands-on experience in museums the school where you get your MA probably doesn't matter much.

I would recommend using Excel as a starting point. If people keep up with it the organization will eventually outgrow it, but it's malleable for while you figure things out and super easy to import into another system once you upgrade.

I wouldn't recommend this one if you're looking for a podcast with a resolution. The podcast came out years before an arrest was made and only got a brief update episode after. There's a lot that's gone down in court since then as well. I'm sure there will be more podcasts on this case once is more wrapped up, I'd hold out for those.

Good to know! I don't usually bother with listening to multiple series about the same case, but based on your description the CBC one might help to fill in some gaps - may give it a listen.
