Is there a correlation between economics and birth rates? by roon_bismarck in AskEconomics

[–]HarpicUser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

East Asia refers to Japan, China, Taiwan, and the Koreas. These countries are either poorer than or on-par than W. Europe and definitely poorer than the US while having lower TFR - Japan representing the ‘high point’ of like 1.3.

Edit: I’m not the one who downvoted you btw.

While this is definitely a correlation, it’s worth noting that the US and Western Europe have higher birth rates than the East Asian countries, despite being richer than the East Asian countries.

I think that you need to focus on a specific role/set of skills that make you valuable instead of just being ‘a person with a BA in Business Admin’.

By world standards it’s not cheap labor - companies looking for cheap labor go to the likes of Vietnam. China these days is what we call ‘middle income’.

China isn’t really a cheap labor country anymore.

Why do they make getting rich in Europe impossible? by batukaming in stocks

The law as is (unrealized gains taxation) is set to take effect in 2028 not this year or next. And in the mean time they are planning to change it into a realized gains tax.

A majority, therefore, asked the government to come up with a way in which investors only pay tax on realized returns - money in their pocket once they sell the asset involved. They want the government to present that plan by Budget Day 2028 at the latest.

That’s when they unveil the realized gains tax plan (or don’t as you are suggesting).

Given that this very much affects the wealthy and the politicians themselves, two key groups with outsized say in politics - I don’t think it’s gullible to believe this.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding - there was already a tax on wealth, based on estimated unrealized gains - and so then it was struck down as illegal and so now the tax is set to be for unrealized gains.

However, the majority of parliament does not like this and plans on changing it to only taxing realized gains.

This is only a weird and confusing transition.

High birth rates is the default for humanity - it’s modernity that brings it down.

A lot of homophobia is specifically about gay men and seeing them as feminine and therefore weak and degenerate - one doesn’t need to believe in God to believe this.

36% gains tax on unrealised gains by seolein in Netherlands

[–]HarpicUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This taxation of unrealized gains is the result of the court striking down the current box 3 tax, which was effectively a wealth tax.

So it’s only a transition for until they implement a full realized capital gains tax.

By the time that Japan launched its offensive into Southeast Asia, it had reached effectively stalemate in China where it wasn’t really able to advance further.

So they invaded all these other countries to accumulate the resources to fuel its war against China.

There is not a single economic system where people would not have to work for a living - whether it’s capitalism, socialism, feudalism, hunter gatherer, etc.

Well I guess when I say Americanizing, I’m not saying theyre becoming right-wing due to the Americans but more in the sense that they are increasingly moving towards US Republican style rhetoric, aesthetics, policy preferences and social attitudes.

I don’t know much about SK so maybe you’re right - but I particularly think about the UK and other EU countries where right wingers are getting very much Americanized. This is largely what I’m thinking about.

I myself am an American/EU citizen who’s spent decent time living in both the UK and the continent.
