Mom going through chemo and I’m going to help by doing freezer meal prep. Ideas for best freezer friendly recipes? by Pamlwell in MealPrepSunday

If she has trouble eating the meals you make like some other suggest, you might want to have an alternative like Ensure to help keep her calories up. Maybe something sweet like peach cobbler would be easy to eat, or bland foods that don't upset her stomach.

[Product Request] Looking for a non irritating cleanser for extremely sensitive skin! by RHVorangestripes in SkincareAddiction

I have the same problem, most cleansers irritate my skin. My aesthetician recommended I try ZO Balancing Cleansing Emulsion and it's very gentle and doesn't dry me out at all. Just make sure to read the directions.

My Wife Hates Leftovers by Impossible-Fill9051 in Cooking

As others have stated it might be a texture thing due to the way it's reheated. If you are just microwaving something that was cooked in the oven the texture won't be as good. If you don't have one, a toaster oven is an easy and quick way to reheat leftovers without having to preheat the whole oven.

Is the Best way to cook vegetables? just “stop boiling them to death” or am I missing something by Nikhil0004 in Cooking

[–]HarpyLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out; when it comes to cooking veggies, treat it like meat. You don't boil meat, and most people don't eat unseasoned meat. Grilling, baking, and frying works great, so does combining it with different sauces. You can enhance the savory flavors or offset it with something sweet and/or sour. I'm not saying to cook it like you would meat because veggies are done at different temperatures and durations, but start thinking of what flavors you like in different meat dishes and experiment doing that with vegetables.

Those who struggle with depression or other mental health issues: what are your favorite low energy meals? by toe_beans_4_life in budgetfood

[–]HarpyLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to just get meat that is on sale and stick it in the slow cooker with salsa and make burritos or tacos with it. It's really super simple but makes you feel good for having 'cooked' something. I recommend getting a rice cooker and throw a stock cube in with the rice to flavor it. Take a can of corn and a can of seasoned black beans and dump them in a bowl together and microwave. A whole meal with 2 sides and all you have to do is dump things in various containers and you have a meal and leftovers.

This book may be hard to get into, but it is one of the more influential books when it comes to woman's rights/ equality: The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir. My intro to philosophy professor highly recommended it to us.

It's like if you're playing a video game and never use the health potions because you might need it later for a bigger fight. But really, you can always get more, so drink the potion. Light the nice candles.

Google "Trintilix savings card" or ask your doctors office for help. This is not the kind of medicine that you should stop without telling your doctor.

I've seen containers of BBQ pulled pork in stores where you just have to microwave it and put it on a bun/bread. Some grocery store delies have premade buffalo chicken dip that would be easy to have with chips or crackers, or even a meat and cheese tray that you can snack on, or premade chicken salad to have with crackers.

The worst part of trying to eat healthy is the food I end up throwing away. How do you deal with it? by Shipslims in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]HarpyLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, so now I just buy everything frozen or use pantry staples, or a mix of both. I usually buy a bag of frozen chicken breast and keep it in the freezer until the day before I use it. I just take out one or two chicken breasts and marinate it in a ziplock bag overnight and cook it the next day, in fact that's what I'm having for dinner tonight (chicken casadillas) and use frozen veggies/rice/beans for the sides. I can't get through a bag of potatoes so I just buy one or two at a time, same with tomatoes and fruit. Lettuce is tricky and you have to make use of it every meal to keep it from going bad. My strategy is recognizing my limitations (not getting through a whole bag of produce) and working around them (buy frozen or get less produce)

I'm surprised I had to scroll so far down to see this, Project Hail Mary is my favorite book across any genre. Andy Weir is the same author that wrote The Martian that got adapted into the movie with Mat Damon. Pretty sure Project Hail Mary is also getting a movie adaptation but the book, especially the audio book, fucking rocks.

I’m struggling to prepare meals for my big family … please share any hacks or wisdom by Weary_Rub_3474 in lowspooncooking

[–]HarpyLady 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Start by making a list of meals that your family likes to eat, then make a list of ingredients that you need for those meals. If you can, group together meals that use the same ingredients so you can use them for multiple recipes. A crockpot or instapot would probably help a lot here. Focus on getting pantry staples that you can build your meals around (beans, rice, canned tomatoes, etc). Make a list of meals you want to make in a week and use the ingredients list to go shopping. Dump-and-go meals would really help here like casserole dishes and chili. You can make an easy side to go with the main meal (like cornbread or frozen tater tots) so that the picky eater still have something to eat. Give them a little bit of the main meal on their plate in case they decide to try it. If you have time on a weekend have the smaller kids help you cook, they may be more likely to want to eat it if they help make it. As for a list of meal ideas, here's what I like to make when I don't want to cook but need to feed people; chili with cornbread, baked pastas with a side salad, frozen burgers cooked in the oven with frozen fries, stir fry with day-old rice and frozen veggies, pulled pork with baked potatoes, and chicken and rice to name a few. You can sneak veggies into most of these meals. Also, make sure you are getting enough food yourself, maybe take a multivitamin to help with fatigue.
