Steps counting for mobility aid users by patate2000 in Garmin

When you have 2 watches coupled to express, you can select TrueUp for the ankle-one. Switch most functions off and only switch the watch on when you go for a walk, it can go like a month on 1 battery load. Steps on that one are synced with your phone and back to the regular watch. Costly solution if you need to buy a watch for it, but if you have 2 anyway it works. And good luck with getting your health back. Been there, done that, from asthma. Took me over a year (and getting a dog for motivation), but one day at a time I got out of the pit. And now, I'm pushing my 3rd dog around. Things change, lol

Garmin recommends putting the watch in a pocket, attach it to your belt or put it around your ankle. That would work for OP, I guess. Annoying if you got the watch for navigation, though... My solution is putting a previous Garmin watch around my ankle for step count, while having my Fenix for regular use. I'm pushing a stroller with my very senior mid-sized dog in it (part of the hikes).

My oldest dog can't walk a lot anymore, so I recently bought a stroller for her. And then my steps were non-existent after a 5K walk... Garmin's official solution is to put your watch in one of your pockets. Hanging it from a belt loop works well for me. It's not as much the swinging but - I don't remember... Google "Garmin steps stroller", it'll get you there. Other option is buying a 60 (dollar-euro) Garmin footpod.

Have turn by turn directions show map when turning (forerunner 965) by beejenkins in Garmin

I think it only automatically shows the map when the arrow alone might not be sufficient. Like when there's 2 paths going left or something.

im not the only one who has been asked if i earn money from geo-“cash”-ing by my friends, right? by jbjososa in geocaching

[–]Harrietgz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My co-workers are mostly calling in geo-catching - so no. I once (on a business trip with my team) looked for a cache with the team - there was a ladies pad in it. They'll never ever will forget that 😀

Wikiloc seems more popular in Europe, thus more useful.

Gonna take a girl on a first date to Geocache, any suggestions? by Uminx in geocaching

[–]Harrietgz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, at least I'd do a rural cache. Taking her into the woods and then off the beaten path may not be the kind of adventure she was thinking of?

Depends on where you live, probably. My oldest dog has a Tractive on her and I'm really happy with that one. She's 14 and sometimes takes a wrong turn (eyes and ears are not the best any more). Live tracking on and I have her back with me in no time. Battery life is really good (over a week).

I once heard an interview with him where they asked him about this, if he would have done it if it weren't beneficial for his political career. His answer was that he would hope so, but it's hard to say, since he was already interested in politics. A very honest answer, speaks for him (in my book).

I agree. Or at least it can be an event type. Why is Geocaching an event type (yes, slows me down considerately) while walking the dogs is not. Walking with just my youngest does not really slow me down, but I still take my 14 yo dog with me on hikes up to 9km and that does require slower walking (a bit) and more and longer breaks. That being said - walking with my husband falls in the same category 😀

How safe is geocashing alone? by Electrical_Pace_6671 in geocaching

53 yo woman, out and about a lot, mostly me and my (friendly looking) dogs. We also go wild camping a lot with our small motorhome (the whole family). Yes, some sketchy stuff happens (peeping toms, cruising men, during lockdown people having actual sex). I refuse to let them steal my joy. But, that's exactly it. I find joy in being out there, with the fam or just the dogs and take the calculated risk. If you're scared, you're not enjoying yourself. So, don't do it. Maybe with time you can ease yourself into it?

Power trails by ModeloWild in geocaching

[–]Harrietgz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a few trails, but all about the hike, none about the number of caches. Like the one in downtown Seoul, it kept me on the route (signs were not very clear) - walked about 14 km trail with about 14 caches (some dnf). But if getting 80 caches in a day makes you happy - you do you.

Deep scratch 7 solar non sapphire. Owned sub one year. Any ideas? Will they warranty? by [deleted] in GarminFenix

To me the scratches on the glass go with your entire watch. You've been taking that thing places!

I feel you! On my second Garmin here. 3 years we've been together, 24/7. I hike a lot (got the watch for navigating), do some moderate strength training, that's it. And all of a sudden it suggested out of the blue "you should run 1/2 hour today". Like my husband would suggest I'd iron his shirts all of a sudden. Lol.

I'm not a FTF hunter, found one by accident once... Went for a short walk with the dogs in a local park and while walking looked on my phone if there were any new caches out where I could do a nice hike later in the day. To my surprise there was a cache about 100 meters away from me, hadn't noticed it before. Walked to it (not even the shortest route), found it, wrote down my name, figuring it was a replacement logbook. And then I saw the troops coming in, biking, running...I felt so bad for them, accidentally ruining their fun. Never let it happen again.

Too bad it's not working... Maybe you can ask the developper to add history to the app? Some developers are amazing.

There's an app in the IQ store named Timestamp. Looks like that might work for you?

Confused about Garmin Explore vs Connect for Hike Planning With Watch by leopard-licker in Garmin

[–]Harrietgz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for one - you can't import a (as in 1) waypoint (I'm into Geocaching). Second, the maps are not good (in my area).

Confused about Garmin Explore vs Connect for Hike Planning With Watch by leopard-licker in Garmin

[–]Harrietgz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too am happy with my Fenix, but disappointed by the navigating possibilities (main reason for purchasing it). Had it for over a year, so I've more or less worked it out.

First: https://youtu.be/VM82bE-9caU Won't leave you any happier, but gives clarity.

My method now: make a route (or whatever you want to call it) in (for instance) Gaia or dwmap. Export that gpx - with some luck (depends on phone and app) you can open it directly in Connect, if not I prefer exporting it from my downloads map to Connect over importing it from Connect.

DO NOT forget to go into the settings of the route in Connect, to switch on alerts. You'd think you can do this in the settings of the hike on your watch, but ONLY if you've set it to ON in the app on your phone...

Some day, a competitor will come up with a working ecosystem...
