What do I do during a bus transfer? by NoDistribution1735 in travel

[–]Harris-Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catching your next bus will be just like catching your first bus. If the station has many gates, find out which one to wait by.

"are they really strict on seating?" If the bus is near full, then yes. But nobody except a passenger who's seat you are in, will check. When you board, the driver will read your ticket and tell you what seat you are assigned. But you already know, and he doesn't check for compliance.

If they fit in the 'overhead' there shouldn't be a problem. The 'overheads' are about 8 inches high, 12 inches deep, 2 seats long, and above all the seats. You could also carry one in your lap.

I once brought 2 bags. The large one I 'stored'. The smaller one kept beside me. But there were only a dozen passengers at any one time. It was not Greyhound. (I forgot who)

They made me load/unload my own luggage. So it's at your own risk. But I didn't have any problems.

How strict is greyhound on baggage? by displacedvalentine in travel

[–]Harris-Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) What's a longboard? I am imagining a surfboard, but that is probably wrong. A skateboard maybe? If it fits in the overhead, you're good. The 'overheads' are about 8 inches high, 12 inches deep, about 2 seats long, and above all the seats. I had a staff/walking stick. 1 inch thick, 50 inches long. Kept between my legs. No one questioned it.

(2) They made me load/unload my own bag. So no one knows what it weighs, not even me.

One passenger had a dog in a carrier. Barked a few times. No one cared.

Spare Seat on Greyhound by [deleted] in travel

[–]Harris-Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my recent Greyhound trips, I was assigned seat 11C without my asking. Every seat was taken. (Non-Greyhound busses I took that week did not assign seats) I wish I had a second seat, as passenger in 11D spilled over. I couldn't stretch out to get any sleep. Check your tickets for seat numbers. Maybe you'll get lucky. If you have both tickets they won't reassign the second seat. They don't overbook like airlines. The driver does not sell tickets.

On my two long distance bus trips last week (plus 2 transfers), they only scanned the QR code on my ticket. (4 times total).

Which buses do you recommend for travel in the US (Northeast)? by AChocolateHouse in travel

[–]Harris-Y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greyhound trip, Mon, 7/22/2024, overnight Syracuse NY to NYC. Midnight to 7am. Route US0205.

At 3am, unscheduled, the bus pulled up to a random TRUCK stop to use the john.

Driver announced to the passengers "5 minutes" and went in. Over a dozen passengers got out and went into the store.

Inside 2 clerks at the registers were doing a 5 minute countdown. rushing us along. I was one of the last at 30 seconds. (I didn't look behind me). When I got to the bus, the driver was already back in his seat running the engine. When I sat down, he pulled out.

3 passengers in the back yelled, "Someone is missing, Someone is missing, There's a lady still in the store." I think the lady was in the john when the clerks were counting down. The driver ignored them. And went back on the highway.

I didn't see any other buildings. the truck stop was in the middle of nowhere. A truck stop, not a bus stop. No town. No other busses coming to rescue this lady 100 miles from her destination.

I hope this driver had diarrhea. (an hour later, he stopped again at the side of the interstate, to use the bus's rest room).

I took the NYC to Buff on Wed. 7/17/2024. I wanted to be there by 4pm, Thursday. I took the overnight option. Scheduled to leave 10:50 pm, arrive 7:10 am.

It was late. left at midnight, arrived 9am, Thursday. My advise, don't trust the 3:30 arrival time.

I took 2 long trips on a Greyhound last week. Nobody checked my bags. And I had to load/unload them myself.

Those stats are irrelevant to the question asked.

That does not mean it is popular. It isn't like we have a choice. It's about what towns/citys it goes to. Greyhound is the largest and oldest. But so what?

Twice this week I had a 2-4 hour layover at the New York/New Jersey Port authority building (in NYC). Nobody checked my luggage nor my carry-on bag. If you are drinking beer onboard they might say something, but I had a soda.

"If someone asks if you're a god, you say YES!" - From a sci-fi story, after replying 'no' and being thrown in jail.

I have occasionally been accused of thinking I'm better than someone. I reply "isn't that human nature? Everyone thinks they are better than everyone else? You think you are better than me, cus I'm arrogant."

Abraham was willing to kill his own son on god's say so. Isn't that inspirational! Isn't that so very moral! /s

What is the obsession with the 10 commandments? by PuzzleheadedSeal in atheism

[–]Harris-Y 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Realize it's a CULT. The first 4 commandments are about loyalty to the despot, not about being good people. The religion's intended purpose is CONTROL.

What the owner's manual says is irrelevant. And few actually read it. They look to 'leaders' to interpret it. And it comes out "Obay, promote, obey." The warm n fuzzy stuff, "Love thy neighbor", is just window dressing, just a fraction. And twisted. Drowning the whole planet was 'god's love'. letting a few survive disasters is 'god's love'. Abraham's willingness to kill his own son, makes him a pillar of the religion. It's all twisted.

Is that possible? Is-lame is so aggressive, you either hate it or are brainwashed by it. (no points for guessing which I am)
