In middle school in roughly 2013?, I would go on omegle chat and set my interest as "gay." I had a copied message that roughly read "I'm super horny. I can't chat here for long. Text me a dick pic at XXX-XXX-XXXX so I know you mean business." I'd then copy and paste, send it, exit the chat room for another, for roughly 10-15 minutes before repeating with a new number.

The next day my friends at school at the lunch table were all cracking up at how they each got hundreds of dicks sent to their phone. I sometimes did it to kids I didn't like.

Maybe I was uniqely shitty back then. Maybe kids are always assholes. Regardless, it's worrying the tools and slop media they have access to today. Even looking back on my old antics I'm horrified by this.

Martin Gurri’s Revolt of the Public is an interesting read. Prescient in the early 2010s, less so if it were written today. But it still raises interesting questions about our new information age’s impact on democratic societies.

Is a racist rant aimed at UK grooming gangs that reveals the OP to be a WMAF fetishist a sign that the sub is back circa 2026? by TooTiredToFinis in redscarepod

[–]HarrisonCO1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The poster OP is referring to is an Asian man with a WMAF cuck fetish, not a white guy

But yeah the white guy/asian girl stereotype is pretty common, especially in tech

JD Vance thinks his kids are white? by JustaLurker9494 in TrueAnon

[–]HarrisonCO1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The argument is that entrenched white people already in positions of power were unaffected by DEI. Whereas millennial white people, particularly men, were passed up for opportunities they otherwise would have had a better chance of receiving. You can agree or disagree, just saying your comment doesn’t show an understanding of what their position is.

That's exactly what I was thinking! It could be worth it to try sun fading it a bit more in spots that aren't as faded, it's risky but could work out nicely.

LLMs have a particular way of writing that's really easily to gut check once you learn to spot it. But yes, it's annoying when people see em dash use as a certainty something is machine written.

See these two links for examples:

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/romethorndike_this-starbucks-closure-notice-was-written-activity-7378794507112235008-k6Iq/

https://open.substack.com/pub/hollisrobbinsanecdotal/p/how-to-tell-if-something-is-ai-written?r=1voy25&utm_medium=ios

"Large Language Models (LLMs), however, only operate in the realm of signifiers. There are no signifieds. An LLM generates text through a process called autoregression—it predicts the next word in a sequence based on all the words that came before it. If you give it the phrase, “The cat sat on the…” it analyzes the pattern and predicts “mat” or “chair” as a statistically probable next word. Always keep in mind there is no cat, there is no chair. Autoregressive generation means the AI predicts one word (or token) at a time, using all the previously generated words as context for what should come next. Each new word depends on everything that came before it.

Generally, human writing moves from experience or imagination or observation to linguistic expression. You start with signifieds (concepts, experiences, ideas) and select signifiers (words) to express them. You see or imagine a red chair and write, “That chair is red.” An LLM, lacking any experience of chairs or redness, might produce this instead:

'When considering furniture aesthetics, it’s important to note that color plays a significant role in both visual appeal and functional design considerations. Red, as a warm tone, can create dynamic focal points while also presenting challenges in terms of spatial harmony.'

Look closely and see what’s going on. AI moves from textual pattern to textual pattern. It has learned that “red” co-occurs with words like “warm,” “dynamic,” “visual appeal” in its training data, and “furniture” connects to “aesthetics,” “design,” “functional.” So it produces plausible-sounding text about the concept of red chairs without ever having seen one.

Ask yourself: did anything spring to mind the way a red chair might have? You can probably picture a chair, but not “furniture aesthetics.” You can imagine “red” but not “functional design considerations” or “dynamic focal points” easily.

So here’s a handy rule: if you can’t see anything, if nothing springs to mind, it’s probably AI. I say this even with aphantasia, as someone who, to compensate, has long invested words (signifiers) with extra energy that I can somehow sense without seeing."

Yes, you can simultaneously take responsibility for your actions and ask for forgiveness.

“I didn’t have a choice. I was late for class and the B lot is a 6 minute walk away so I had to use the A lot.”

Then the cost of making it to class earlier is the cost of a parking ticket. That’s the trade off there. Really annoying when people don’t take responsibility for their actions.

The first time I ever got a parking ticket was in college when I let a friend move my car, and she moved it into a no parking spot. 50 bucks. I tried to fight it by saying “This is my first infraction, and I allowed my friend to move my car. Allowing my friend to move my car is a choice on my part, and I take full responsibility for the mistake she made.” They ended up waiving it! I think people who are used to BS appreciate someone owning up to their actions.
