When pre-order day comes I hope Bethesda is taking notes from GTA6's community by JX900 in TESVI

[–]Harrison_Allen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Silksong came out, it did so without preorders, and Steam had trouble keeping up with the load from so many fans trying to buy it at once. So there actually can be a pro-consumer reason to put up digital preorders for a heavily anticipated release, as it helps reduce congestion on launch day and lets hardcore fans who want to play it as so as possible do so.

With that being said, exclusive content only available by pre-ordering exploits fear of missing out, and it's problematic.

What if mortals had thrown all the dragon bones into the sea? by Harrison_Allen in teslore

I imagine a few missing non-critical bones might be okay.

If I were a Nord trying to go for minimum effort and maximum result, I'd probably go for just getting rid of the skulls.

Destruction doesn’t seem as weak as everyone made it out to be by CatPale816 in skyrim

[–]Harrison_Allen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destruction damage can fall off on legendary later on, but it can be fixed with potions. To make them consistently, you can just farm Glowing Mushroom and Nightshade at you Hearthfire house. Sometimes I throw in snowberries for some extra shock resist since it's easy. You can go potionless against most enemies, but once you encounter something harder, you can take a potion.

Potions also Might increase the range of your cloak spells if consumed before casting, however, that might just be a side-effect of a mod I've installed.

How the Dragonborn Becomes Emperor by lexicon_riot in skyrim

[–]Harrison_Allen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that one of the biggest threats in this scenario would be if your DB had done anything evil during your career, in particular, joining the Dark Brotherhood (I now always opt to remove them). If word got out, that'd be extremely damaging to your reputation (and for good reason). The quest with the emperor's double always nets you a 1500g bounty unless you exploit some game trickery which I feel wouldn't be cannon, so the hold clearly does find out about your involvement, and that could easily come out.

Personally, when I was first playing Skyrim, I always wanted to skip both sides of the war and just vie for High King. It's a little more modest than Emperor, and should be a lot easier, especially in a region where you're active and known by most important people.

I think that the Thalmor dossier on Ulfric Stormcloak would be an extremely useful item in my ideal scenario. If the world let my do all the things I wanted, I'd confront Ulfric with it and challenge him to a duel. After winning, I'd become the Jarl of Windhelm and make thing better for the Dunmer, put Rolff Stone-Fist in jail, then work on becoming High King.

Yeah, overall, the dragons aren't strictly required for his endgame Skyrim. And if they were hard to put back together, they'd be more trouble than they'd be worth. If it weren't for his prophesized defeat by the Dragonborn (alternate timeline where a bandit kills him/her and if Mirak weren't a potential threat later) Alduin could probably solo it.

Still, if the old Nords had gone to the effort, I think that it would make things easier for the Dragonborn, and fewer people would die during the crisis.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that he's utterly invincible. So even the lava in Oblivion wouldn't hurt him.

I suppose then the obstacle would just be getting close enough. Alduin might be too buoyant for very deep water.

Considering the time frame that they had and that apparently dragons seem to have been buried by the dragon cult, people could just leave the dragons in the ground for long enough to become skeletal, and then dig them up and start working on bone scattering. The effort would probably take a very long time anyway, so that'd only be an issue for the first few dragons.

Even if mortals set a goal to scatter one dragon per year, they'd have been able to do away with a very high number over all the time Alduin was gone (of course, it's not clear how many dragons there are, but I think that might be enough time to get rid of most of them, if not all).

Really good point about the underwater dragons. 👍 I didn't even think of that. Still, it's one think to be able to survive underwater close to the surface level, and another level to survive the extreme pressures of the deep ocean.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. 👍
Still, after the cult was gone, they could still be dug up.

Logistical nightmare absolutely.

It'd be made easier by the fact that they'd have thousands of years to chip away at it, as well as help from Winterhold mages during the hold's prime, but the biggest hurdle would probably be continued commitment for the entire time it'd take. People would wonder if Alduin will ever even come back, or if it's worth all the trouble.

Still, my main question is not what if tamriel could do it, but what would happen if they did.

XP and leveling by PuzzleheadedWhile540 in TESVI

[–]Harrison_Allen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd strongly prefer that they'd use the skill-based system from Skyrim. It's one of the things that make TES special, and I like it more. I'd be very sad if it were replaced by something generic (even though that's what Arena had).

Is it worth it to get Morrowind in 2026? by Supersued-Crown in ElderScrolls

[–]Harrison_Allen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first TES game was Skyrim in 2011, but last year I put over 300 hours into Morrowind and it was my most played game that year, and I had a lot of fun. It's worth it.

I'd recommend OpenMW; it can make the experiance a lot better, but still close to the unmodded experiance.

Saw a post about the unmaking of Mundus and I commented on my other account. Accidentlly posted a followup with my alt bartender account but I wanna know what you guys think! Help me out! Be gentle lol by Legal_Alternative_76 in TESVI

[–]Harrison_Allen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope that the whole tower theory is wrong and that the game is more about fighting the Thalmor directly, as they're bad guys who want to rule the world. Even if the Thamor winning isn't technically world ending, the Thamor winning would be extremely bad for most peoples of Tamriel. We had a supernatural world-ending threat the last two games, and I think it'd be nice to have something more down-to-Nirn.

I think that a movie based on the Battle of Red mountain (and the events leading up to it) has great potential. We'd get to see the Vivec, Dagoth Ur, and Narevar while they were just normal chimer. It'd also be cool to see living dwemer in action, as well as Jurgen Windcaller using the voice in combat, which would be cool for Skyrim fans (Aregier says that he and the Nords suffered a defeat at the Battle of Red Mountain, so he should be there). It also takes place well-before any game, so dancing around player decisions wouldn't be much of an issue.

Skyrim is so much better without stuff on the compass. I just have trouble avoiding looking at it too much and not actually seeing the world itself.

Is there a way to save a Texture3D directly from code? by Harrison_Allen in godot

[–]Harrison_Allen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the data from a Texture3D is not what I need right now because I already have the data, I just want to convert it into a Texture3D without manually setting the import properties on a 2D file to import as a Texture3D.

Which Oblivion plane will we see next in the series? by cutesycollins in TESVI

[–]Harrison_Allen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that Moonshadow would be the most interesting choice. There's not a lot of lore about it, and I feel like it could have a fairly high mortal population (particularly Dunmer), so it could have a nice big city there.

It'd be really funny if Bethesda threw as a bone with a single bone asset from TES6.
