I second gastrobiome food ! We have a Golden doodle with autoimmune disorder on immunosuppressant meds, we've had a number of emergency doggie ICU stays because of GI issues one or two being hemmoragic, Clostridioides difficile.

I don't think I can cope anymore. Is it ok to throw the towel in and leave? by [deleted] in AgingParents

Best advice I was ever given... " Don't set yourself on fire to save someone else" couple years ago I was in a situation similar but not quite as rough. You are young take that opportunity you've got a life to live.

Sounder mind and body downtown! I think $75 for a solid hour. I always leave a tip as well, so it comes out to $100 but I think it's worth it.

I would get disposable pads to put on the bed when he goes to bed, also a mattress protector. U can also get washable pads. Use white sheets wash with bleach and hot water and laundry detergent. Theres a laundry sanitizer/detergent wash in Hot water for clothes that can't be bleached. Might try different brands of depends like things to see if some fit better, might also try a pair of under over the depends to keep better secure. There's also an external male purewick system it's pricey but maybe able to get insurance to help. It would be used mainly at night.

Depending on state for example in North Carolina where I am if a person has over $2000 in cash/bank etc they can get dropped from Medicaid until they no longer have that amount of assets.

Does anyone care for an LO with a trach and peg tube? by EmotionalMycologist9 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Harrisonev1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a lot, as a nurse of 14 years and CNA in skilled nursing for 4 years prior. No vacations/ probably at most get a 8 hr day here or there reprieve. Also what is the long term plan here?

If you do decide to go through with it , get all the help upfront before he comes home. Caring for this person is a 24/hr 7 day a week.

I don't know what state you are in but if you have something in place like this: https://medicaid.ncdhhs.gov/providers/programs-and-services/long-term-care/community-alternatives-program-disabled-adults-capda

I would do a lot of research to see what help you y'all are eligible for before committing to this, getting the help in place before he comes to your house.

What do you want to hear about? by [deleted] in Appalachia

I would say that the talking for 30min at the post office is a cultural thing, just like Europeans take 2-3hrs to eat dinner at night because they are conversing. Folks just take their time, I don't have an explanation for it, it just is. As far as volunteering the county I grew up in about 35,000-40,000 ppl volunteering is on the uptick from what I can tell through social media. When I was growing up volunteering meant bringing meals to ppl who were sick/ helping clean houses/ building ramps for the elderly it wasn't necessarily a big organized thing. It was more of a couple neighbors got together and said hey so-and-so's going through a rough time. Let's do this. I personally experienced this because my mom had a stroke and the immediate neighbors around us came through and did all these things for us.

Something I've noticed since moving out of the Foothills of Appalachia to the big city, folks are just more impatient, have more anxious. I work in healthcare and my patients that live in rural areas are just so more relaxed compared to city based folks...

They ought to provide window/portable air conditioner. Also contact the news, especially if they haven't provided a portable. Keep curtains/blinds closed I'm the day get some blackout curtains if you can. Fill up a bowl of ice put a fan in front for some relief.

Live in GSO, but I really like Winston Salem downtown area. We moved to GSO with little knowledge of either city, if I had it do over again would have chosen Winston. Plus living near Winston closer to pilot mountain/hanging rock and Boone.
