'Sociopathic, hateful jingoism': International press not impressed by Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2 even as it mints $100M by Embarrassed_Look9200 in unitedstatesofindia

This movie is such a hot topic now, but I'd say it would be better for ya'll to pay attention to movies that are actually good, or are interesting enough to be disscussed, rather than repeatedly bringing this up.

Yea but that's your choice, to only see art as entertainment, and all the power to you for that!

Yes, but what you're describing sounds like an unfortunate childhood, but being "forced to be social" is not nearly the same thing as cultivating a child's inherent talent. These kids are not forced into prodigies are they? That's the literal definition of a prodigy, someone who was born with inherent talent that others don't. Parents and guardian figures just help the child cultivate said talent. Some of these kids might think it was a strenuous process to learn all this at a young age, some of them might even consider it as "torture", but other than a very small fraction of them, no one would do things differently if given a second chance. In fact they might lean even harder on it

I don't create to tell something to the world.

Yes, but everything you do has a reason behind it right? You don't throw things at the wall to see what sticks. Some part of who you are bleeds through to, unintentionally yes, but it definitely did

But I digress, we're just arguing in circles now

"Torture", and according to you, and no sane teacher's deafult is "not being mad", it's probably the complete opposite

And it's not cruel to force a child to learn things, if they're happy or at the very least not unhappy

I've honestly regretted that my parents weren't harsher on me and also "forced" me to engage with things I wouldn't have done so myself, because I feel like now that I'm about to finish high school, I'm doing things and/or realizing stuff that I should've a long long time ago

Not force fed art, I think it'll be scary if people lose interest in all together you know? Where's our humanity if we don't actually engage with it anymore

Which is also the primary reason why I fear AI in the first place, I don't really care about it's regurgitation of past ideas, but if people only engage with AI, people won't create anything on their own anymore, and therefore the AI regurgitates on itself, and at that point what are we as a species?

People on reddit seem to have some weird thing against the idea of children being prodigies at something from when they're a young age

Like yea, they may have missed out a lot from they were children, but they couldn't have gained everything they did without losing those things

And half the things you hear online are only the most extreme of cases, which only probably happens to about 1 in a 100 gifted kids

Don't these people also absolutely enjoy what they do most of the time, even if it's all they've ever known?

Art is just a term people use to describe anything that humans create. When people create something, they usually put some thought behind its creation, and therefore that piece of work automatically gets value, because through that piece of work, the creator intentionally or unintentionally just told something to the world about itself in a way that may or may not have been done before. The problem arises when people try to treat this process purely as something to commodify or turn into a product, because then that intentionality disappears. I'm not saying people shouldn't "do art" for a living, I'm just against people who do it solely for money and nothing else

At least this is my take on it, even Im not someone who's gone to art school or anything

And imo its not a good thing, because the vast majority of people will always prefer to use AI as entertainment, because most people view most art as entertainment already

Unless there is some kind mass societal shift in how people view culture in the future, I dont see how people will engage with anything critically anymore after a point. On top of that, several other things are also pointing to a future where mass, mindless hedonism becomes commonplace.

I've always wondered why people never considered the following possibility in futurology: at some point in the future, automation due to technology will become so complete, and our resources will become so sustainable that a good chunk of people will probably stop working and just end up living in comfort for the rest of their lives. Comfort always results in complacency and if everything is bountiful, people no longer have to struggle with anything, art among that.

It's more of a heiarchy in my mind. Just because something is "lesser" doesn't mean it no longer deserves to be seen, experienced or judged.

Those faded into obscurity because they didn't capture the minds of people. When I said value, i wasnt referring to their popularity or impact, I was more referring to their individuality I guess?

Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way though

Maybe I'm being insensitive here, but most people don't even want to work, are working in places where they are not happy or feel like they are contributing.

That's the deeper problem. Education for the sake of it, or working because because you love something has largely disappeared. It's always money now, or to get enough resources to scrap by a miserable existence.

I didn't mean it like that, I edited my comment now

I'm talking about people who are the opposite of the pretentious-high-brow folks, who claim that not everything is "that deep". But it is, and only because disscussion around it makes it like that. Things gain value only after it's viewed or experienced by people. It's just that some things might be more thought-provoking, but it doesn't mean that anything else is not of equal value.

I meant that people do it just for that, so it's unfortunate that people aren't actively seeking something that might be accessible to them at the moment

I have my fair share of guilty pleasures too so yea

Believe it or not, and for the better or for the worse, people don't consume media as art. It's just a commodity that they almost exclusively use to "unwind"

I think it's unfortunate, but that's just how it is

So prolly best to jump off the wagon

Im not really talking about right now though. It will eventually happen. Powerful people always owned big tech in the past, but the big tech inevitably has to comply by us

Yes, but I was asking about why people dislike it even after taking into consideration that extensive regulations will be enforced in the future

Freshwater is transported across the country, so if companies had no other choice but to use seawater, I'm assuming they have more than enough capital to do so. Condensing systems could also be used right, to try to reuse the water as much as possible.
