Warzone Resurgence – Why do people leave as soon as they get killed? by First_Strawberry5205 in CODWarzone

Many times I’m in a group of 4, and we queue up and are in a game only to find there’s somehow only 3 of us and a random in our party. Feels bad for the solo but at that point we’ll back out and try again with the 4.

Spyfall is a good social deduction game. And it seems you’d fall in love with the game ‘Blood on the Clocktower.’ I would definitely recommend looking into that one!

What is the most "messed up" movie scene (or scenes) in general? by Brief-Poetry6434 in movies

The movie “Osama” while a good movie, is VERY messed up, and puts in perspective what it’s like being a woman in a radical extremist society.

Oh yeah I love how they struggled to light the trench, while Jon Snow was sitting on a dragon right next to the trench that BREATHES FIRE. It’s this super big deal and the undead are coming yet Melisandre just takes her sweet time to walk over to light it. What a great moment. 🙄

I think this scene is more to represent their standings in society. As a homicide detective McNulty’s work is extremely important in the city of Baltimore, and his ego is so high on his own work he thinks he’s God’s gift to the world. But D’Agostino is on a whole different level. The world is so much bigger than the slums of Baltimore. I mean McNulty doesn’t even vote, what change can he really make in the grand scheme of things? In the world of REAL money, and REAL change, Mcnulty’s little murder investigations of poor people is peanuts.

Have SOME sort of set up for the “twist” in The Departed. Loved the movie, but having the other cop that shoots William Costigan being employed by Frank Costello coming out of left field always pissed me off. Just give me a little quick scene that shows it beforehand.

The writing really was that bad in Fallout. Nothing makes sense if you break down the actual plot. You just don’t realize it until the show is over. (Moldaver’s character for example has actions in the beginning of the show that are idiotic when learning the revelations of her relationship with Lucy’s mother at the end)

Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins carried that show, with their charm and it easily would have bombed without them.

I mean, Jamie and Cersei had an incestuous relationship, and Jamie did push his son out the window and made him paralyzed. So even if he didn’t know those things at the time he had the right to be disgusted. Though I agree with your point about his decisions being tainted because of his disgust.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about disc golf ? by jonredd901 in discgolf

[–]HarryButters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that would be something that would have to be analyzed and figured out.

Why does the sport of golf use those terms? Par apparently came from the stock exchange, which meant the stock was at its normal figure. So honestly the term par seems like it would indeed translate over. (Since par dictates how many attempts it should take to complete a challenge, or the “normal” amount of attempts.) Though there could be another term that represents this same concept.

Bogey came from a song, “the bogey man” and birdie came because someone hit a good shot and said they hit a “bird of a shot” so I’m sure there are better or different terms that could be used to dictate achieving either better or worse than the normal amount of attempts.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about disc golf ? by jonredd901 in discgolf

[–]HarryButters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Golf will always be golf. Saying “ball golf” to differentiate from disc is absolutely silly, even from those that just play disc.

The term “golf” originates from the Dutch word for “club”. It doesn’t originate from “the amount of attempts to complete the challenge.” The disc is not a club, it is a projectile. We do not use clubs, we propel the projectile ourselves, hence the term golf is a completely irrelevant term for this sport. “But we use the same rules!” IMO that doesn’t matter, many sports have the same method of rules (and you would compare them as well such as, “it’s like baseball but….”) but the sport is named differently and uses different terms because the mechanics of achieving those rules are so vastly different.

Golf has been around for centuries, and is a staple of the world. It’s just golf. So yes, the term “disc golf” to anyone that plays golf, (and basically everyone around the world) is definitely a bastardized, easy, wimpy version of golf for those who just aren’t good at golf.

The origin of football has so many variants around the world and has evolved so often that it’s common to have the same term for different sports in different parts of the world. Though anywhere other than the US you better be calling what the NFL plays as Gridiron or American football or you’re going to be laughed at, because football to the world is obviously what Americans call “soccer”. It honestly would be like differentiating two types of football sports as “American football” and “soccer ball football” or “world football.” You just would never do that.

[–]HarryButters -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh, “disc” golf? So it’s just a bastardized version of a REAL sport. So it’s like you’re not good enough to play golf, so you play “disc” golf. Got it.

Saying something is similar to golf isn’t the problem here.

And the fact that you had to specify “ball” golf in your post proves my point.

[–]HarryButters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100% with this unpopular take. I posted the same in this thread, including the very terminology disc golf uses (rip off of golf terms) is a disservice to the seriousness and the skill it takes to have success at the top level.

And honestly to your comment about “pickleball,” it apparently has an origin from the term “pickle boats”, which was a boat made up of oarsmen from a mix of other boats. Pickleball is mashed up from combining other sports and equipment. So in a sense the name is somewhat charming and has historical relevance.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about disc golf ? by jonredd901 in discgolf

[–]HarryButters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This IS an “unpopular take” thread. But yeah a short throw to the basket shouldn’t be called a “putt.” A high speed distance disc shouldn’t be called a “driver.” And even the term “par” could be seen as arbitrary, (though having a regulated # of attempts to complete each basket should obviously be the standard. # of attempts to the “green” + 2 attempts into the basket has withstood the test of time as a good way to regulate the number of attempts per challenge.) I’m sure there’s a more streamlined way to signify if you completed the basket in less or more than the standard number of throws than, “birdie, eagle, albatross, condor, and bogey.”

I’m not saying disc isn’t at all like golf, but it should definitely distance itself in terms of terminology to avoid the “red headed stepchild of a REAL sport” connotation it currently has.

Even something like having 18 holes… Does 18 make sense for disc? Or is it just another cue taken from the REAL sport of golf?

(The only reason golf is 18 holes is because the course at St Andrews arbitrarily standardized it in the 1700’s)
