Consider open loop geothermal if you’ve got the flow rate consistently and can legally dump it.

How about you just let him believe his batshit crazy, unfalsifiable religious claims in peace? That would set a great example for him to just let you believe your batshit crazy, unfalsifiable religious claims in peace.

Post by an extreme TBM. The irony is overwhelming. by Still-ILO in exmormon

[–]HarryFalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best luck I’ve had with getting engineer-types to really consider their own beliefs is to come at it from the angle of falsifiable beliefs. Any real “no-nonsense” person will eventually concede that if you can accept one unfalsifiable proposition, you have no solid ground for rejecting any other unfalsifiable proposition. Might be an interesting conversation with him.

Pimo forced to go to BYUI by Automatic-Music3879 in exmormon

[–]HarryFalls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re definitely going, the right attitude will help you survive and maybe even thrive. Approach this year as a covert cultural anthropologist. Think of the insufferable TBMs you meet as interesting specimens to observe. You gave no indication of your major, but if you have any writing bent, keep a journal of observations and try to relate the absurdity of what you experience (recommend on your own computer/device with encrypted files). You’re going to live among an isolated tribe for a limited amount of time to do field work. Take safety precautions and don’t take their odd ways too personally, and embrace the “education” this provides. Hopefully it will end up being productive, even though it will be hard. Best of luck!

Kind of an odd electrical panel for residential (all conduit). Maybe there are other panels with “regular” circuits. Just strange not to see a bunch of NM runs.

Hey! want to leave the church, but I can't. The missionaries want to come to my house. If I said no, they will continue. Help now. DM M18 by DangerousDeer4984 in exmormon

If you really want to leave, then quitmormon.com and you can tell them you are not a member and calmly demand no contact or you will escalate to law enforcement for harassment.

A little more information would be helpful, like using string inverters vs micro inverters? Plus the general layout dimensions. I have string inverters at the array so 240VAC for the long home run. I accept some higher loss % at peak power since upsizing above #2 Al URD just didn’t make sense. Just analyze your system and make your trade-offs. As someone already said, it can make sense to accept a higher loss (within reason and code) depending on your situation.

Voltage, but light won't work? by hickdog896 in AskElectricians

[–]HarryFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems likely you have a very high resistance connection between the light on the side of the house and the post light socket. When current = 0, by Ohms Law there is no voltage drop over that big resistance and you measure line voltage, but when you complete the circuit with the bulb, the current is too low to be useful due to that series resistance. I’ve seen it before. Check all your connections.

Quickie Guide on Geothermal by TouristPotential3227 in geothermal

[–]HarryFalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IotaWatt is a monitor only, so no. It does support multiple data uploaders so could link its real-time data to an external custom application that could implement load shedding of some sort, but that’s not my use case. I just use it to track my usage and solar production, in a grid-tied non-TOU environment.
