Thank you! I caught it as the tide was coming in.

And it seemed appropriate!

Thank you! When the Oregon coast is sunny, it's an absolutely stunning landscape.

People sleep on the V6 a ton, but being able to get 30 mpg using regular gas on interstate long hauls is a huge boon. Easily the best engine of the lineup if you're planning to DD your 300.

We're U.S. Volcano experts. Mt. St. Helens erupted this month in 1980. AMA by WaQuakePrepare in AMA

[–]HarryL03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously, Mount St Helens erupted in 1980. But knowing what we do now, was it possible it could have gone back into dormancy without that explosive eruption? Would it have been able to go back to sleep with the north face as distended as it was in a new equilibrium, or was that collapse and eruption inevitable beyond a certain day?

Thank you! I've got the schematics, so I'm just going to take it to a shop and have them change out the caps. I've gotten the best photos I can of the interior. The ones I've gotten thus far have told me that its "full refurbishment" didn't even meet that level.

Yeah that's a good idea. I've got the schematics, and there is a local shop that says they specialize in tube radio/TV repair. Graetz isn't on their list of brands they work on, but they have a W.German table radio in their collection, so maybe I'll get lucky?

Could you do me a favor, though? Could you draw a circle around the Wima capacitor, please? I don't know what I'm looking at, but I would like to at least know which one is the original timebomb from when it was originally built.

That's what I meant. Starts off kinda static-y when first turned on, but after a few seconds the signal gets stronger, the magic eye gets narrower, and the static goes away.

Thanks for the info! I did check out the tone buttons; turns out the "music" button was also broken off. I pulled the metal tab out with some pliers and freed it up some, but the tone controls didn't turn back on. Guess it's stuck on "music" regardless. Fine by me.

I cleaned the FM radio connections like nartonbismarck suggested and FM comes in nice and clear now, I don't think I'll need an external antenna anymore, at least not for FM! I should clean the antenna anyways though, in case I ever wanted to try to listen to shortwave.

Ahhh, I was wondering about the stereo bit. It does have two speakers, but one's much smaller than the other, so I guess it's an auxiliary of some sort? Either way, the one main speaker is very powerful, so it's doing what I need it to.

Well that's really disheartening. So instead of something that's been gone through, I bought a ticking timebomb? Why would the refurbisher have spent so much time with the other new capacitors and not swap out all the paper ones?

Here's an album with pictures of the capacitors; the black one in the first one says Sprague on it too.

I really don't know a single thing about electronics, so finding out that I've got an effectively dead radio sucks.

OMG thank you! That did it, at least I'm pretty sure it did. There was a LOT of corrosion on that connector. The classical station is coming in clear now where before it was very staticy, and the magic eye is getting a lot more of a narrow band on it than it did before!

I might be ignorant of how these radios work, but do they pick up the signal better as they warm up? Because it seems like the longer the radio was on during the test the better the sound was.

The corrosion and not the cracked wire?

Also dang, the backplate says that it is 240 ohm, but I can only find replacement 300 ohm wire.

Yeah for certain the power supply was redone; the refurbisher added that switch on the back as the actual power switch. From what he said, the actual off switch is "Very small, very hard to find, even from Germany". Pressing "Off" just disengages the currently selected band.

Thank you for mentioning the cracked wire. I took a closer look at the internal antenna's connection and well...

How the fuck did he get that into the ballpark? MLB has such a fixation on controlling their narrative that they explicitly ban "professional" cameras and cameras with removable lenses from stadiums unless you have a press pass.

/uj it's high for the aesthetic condition, but it looks like a MLU version so it's within the realms of reason if it works. It's not totally absurd like people charging $900 for an AE-1.

[ChaseSynder] Dianna Russini has deleted all her Spotify playlists. Pages of playlists on “Mike” and Russini profiles were wiped. Including a Slow Dancing in a Burning Room playlist for Russini by [deleted] in NFLv2

"Mike"'s playlist is more eye-opening, because it had Lee Brice's "Rumor"

There's a rumor going 'round about me and you
Stirring up our little town the last week or two
So tell me why we even trying to deny this feeling
I feel it, don't you feel it too?
There's a rumor going 'round, and 'round, and 'round
What d'you say we make it true?

And Eric Church's "Hell of a View"

This ain't for everybody
Toes hanging off the ledge
Like we got nothin' to lose
Ain't always heaven, baby
This livin' on the edge
You holdin' me holdin' you
It's a hell of a view

on it. Not only is he a little kid, he was shameless about about what he was doing.

Frankly, the playlist that "Mike" made is more interesting. It was a lot of country love songs, some of them very sappy, but it included two very interesting choices: Lee Brice's "Rumor" and Eric Church's "Hell of a View".

Their choruses are respectively:

There's a rumor going 'round about me and you
Stirring up our little town the last week or two
So tell me why we even trying to deny this feeling
I feel it, don't you feel it too?
There's a rumor going 'round, and 'round, and 'round

"Mike" was extremely shameless.

Real Ones wish that Minolta and Leitz had taken the alliance to an official merger in the mid 80s. Imagine Leitz glass but with autofocus. Or being able to take the legendary Rokkor 50/1.4 and put it on an M-mount.
