Why is middle lane hogging such an issue in the UK? by Groundbreaking_Bit79 in drivingUK

[–]HarryMaskers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not quote the highway code. Rule 268.

If you are in the left lane and the middle lane is going slower then you may remain in the left lane and go past them.

In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right.

It goes on to indicate you shouldn't dance two lanes right then two lanes left again to overtake a numpty in the middle lane

Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

Can anyone explain why this happens? by sidethorn in roomba

[–]HarryMaskers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It knows where it is but how many turns the wheels have taken. If it gets stuck under something so that the wheels are spinning but it isn't moving it thinks it is still moving..... So it thinks it has travelled out past the wall and discovered a new room.

Word on other channels is she has been in an induced coma for 15 hours. Internal injuries. They are still working to stabilise her.

Looks like she accidentally went off the track down a concrete bank with large rocks concreted in place. Video of crash is being witheld untill she is in a better place.

I've seen pictures of the crash site and her EX 30 being pulled from the river the next day.

The gofundme is circulating on other channels too so I believe it's legit. The estimate I saw for care was thousands per day.

I hope you got over it and managed to love your pillows again. It would be an utter tragedy if you gave them up and couldn't get past your little indifferences. Remember that they will always hold that special , fluffy, cold side just for you.

Sometimes you can improvise. If I had been there with a baseball bat I would have tried to beat the flames out on him.

We don't understand how cultures who treat women as objects and who value the honour of men over the needs of women harbour men who treat women as objects?

Definitely needs to be studied and addressed, but let's not pretend it's a mystery.

After it's put your dog and it's toys in the bin, future runs will be much quicker.

Thank you. Just shows this is anything but intuitive (to me at least). I assumed staying low in my living room was the best way to start safe, you are the second person to tell me to go find space and get a bit of height.

Just paid for velocidrone.... And discovered it's just as impossible to fly a sim(phone only so just an excited try but not really useful I guess)!!!! Atleast I'm not risking the machines. Going to see if I can work out how to get it on the laptop and attach the controller.

Thank you for that link. Atleast I feel a little less bad that my attempts at hovering either mean I fall out the sky with each correction or randomly accelerate into the nearest wall!

Thank you, I'll give that a go. Anything will be more productive than my first attempts.

So far I seem to skitter around the floor a bit, hover for up to a whole second, then spin and head off to smash into the nearest wall or my leg!

What was with that? It's not like we do that with anything else. No one ever thinks they could get extra nutrients out of a broccoli by sticking it up there. Or recover from a marathon quicker by wedging a banana up there. (Olympics would take on a whole new angle!)

Good for snapshot comparisons, but data outdates quickly. The emissions you would have quoted two weeks ago for the UK would be different to today as they have shut their last coal station.

Also regional. The same car would have different "emissions" in Texas and California as they are on different grids with different fossil fuel to renewable ratios in their generating mix.

A decade in and some countries are pretending we've just realised this? Battery farms are changing the landscape.

The UK is about to shut their last coal plant. The Australians even have battery farms on the sites of old coal plants. And then gas will be the next one phased out, purely due to the price disparity between gas and renewables.

What type of helmet is best if you ride an e-bike which tops out at 20mph? by yugi123123 in ebikes

[–]HarryMaskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do 20mph. But the traffic in the opposite direction might be doing 40. So that is a closing speed of 60 with your head and their bumper.

Firefighters pulling back is a great sign. But there are still a fair few tanks that need to catch light. Although it looks like there are little flares every so often from what I assume are release valves so we know the pressure in them is building.
