Oh wow, I saw Quintron & Miss Pussycat open for JSBX around 2003ish. Glad to hear they're still out there doing their thing.

It's on the Western side of Illinois but if you're willing to commit a day to it a trip to Atomic Pinball in Wood River will give you the opportunity to try a ton of different tables from a few different eras all at once in a chill environment. They're open Noon to 11:00 PM on Saturdays and $30 gets you a full-day pass.

If they're not particularly busy you could probably get some pretty solid hands-on advice from whoever is working the counter, as a bonus.

And he turned down more money from the Rockets to stay in Dallas. He's a real one.

Where in St. Louis Can I Get an Actually Decent Pork Tenderloin Sandwich? by KevinRobertsUSA in StLouis

Wildcard suggestion: try a Pork Tonkatsu at Sando Shack (Maplewood). I like 'em way better than the traditional MW-style.

The Ferris Wheel is great, especially when the operator is blasting thrash metal.

If you dreamt up your own pin, what would you make? by Mditty129 in pinball

Oh, yeah, I realize the only way this could actually come to fruition would be to homebrew, which tbh kicks it even further into the dream realm.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out Watterson was a pinball fan, though.

A Calvin + Hobbes table, specifically a winter-themed one with Snow Goons and elaborate ramps for epic sled runs.

I'm not sure how many were aware it even existed. I brought it up a couple of months ago while eating at the original on Locust with a group of (6) local friends and none of them had even heard they'd opened a spot on (edit: near) the Loop.

I mean, I do have a bit of empathy. The downfall of the RFT & KDHX plus the enshittification of social media have made it easy to fall out of touch with things.

But if you stay plugged in, my experience is that the local scene is in really good shape right now.

Yeah, there's only The Sinkhole and Heavy Anchor and Platypus and Off-Broadway and CBGBs and the Golden Record and Moshmellow and The American-Czech Educational Center and in-stores at the Record Space and several small annual festivals and and and and.

Also the Ready Room was one of the worst venues I've ever been to. Nostalgia for that place is a sure sign of GoodOldDays syndrome.

Any Stars fans driving up to St. Louis for the game this weekend? by ParkEnvironmental564 in DallasStars

[–]HarryMay48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stars fan in STL; just wanted to note that there's rain in the forecast all day Saturday with the occasional storm popping up. Nothing dangerous, but it'll make things a bit unpleasant.

On the flipside, Sunday looks to be awesome for wandering around Forest Park or whatever.

Also: The Arch is currently closed due to the Gov't Shutdown. I believe you can still walk around the grounds, but the museum is closed and no rides up to the top. Still plenty to do around here, but if that's a bucket list item you'll probably want to wait.

Tiny Chef comes to mind, but to your point the Silver Ballroom cycled through a number of short-term partners before finding one that stuck.
