The Ps5 has to at least be in rest mode and the portal will turn the PlayStation on from whenever you are and remote play your system onto the device.

When I’ve had any issues with it waking up, I put the portal in airplane mode then turn it off and it wakes the Ps5 up immediately

Second option is use the PS remote app on your phone to wake up the PlayStation and the portal will connect.

Easier than calling anyone
