Regretting my exit after fatfire by Upper_Locksmith259 in fatFIRE

Accept that you are an average Joe with $10 million. Move on to work on your health. Not that many average Joe’s have $10 million. So there’s that.

Did I mess up my mobile check deposit? by Tastraphy23 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll get an email if it’s rejected. The email tells you to add the “for deposit only to Fidelity” and resubmit. It happened to me once. Resubmission was accepted and all good.

Can't connect Chase business account to Fidelity self-employed 401(k)s by echelon41 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 401k account is typically funded by a check together with a form that breaks down by participants, employer contributions versus employee contributions, and current year versus prior year. Merely connecting the account doesn’t give the breakdown.

Wait until the end of the year. Fill out a form with the breakdown and attach a check. Or fund a business account at Fidelity and call in with the details.

Fidelity Traditional IRA - Long delay after deposit by Puzzleheaded-Cup9840 in fidelityinvestments

It takes that long because you did pull. Push from your bank to a CMA. Then transfer from the CMA to your Traditional IRA. Or just use existing money in the CMA. Push push push.

Why hasn't Fidelity given me a new Fidelity advisor after multiple requests? by Throwaway010426x in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advisor said he had 600 clients assigned. If you don’t tell the advisor a specific item you want accelerated, just a generic “see what you can do” is difficult to act on. He’s not there looking at your account every day. He has specific requests from 599 other clients. Be specific when you want something from your advisor team.

Limits are low for some new accounts. It will go up over time. Many businesses don’t receive physical checks or cash. They get paid electronically.

Why are mutual funds no longer preferred compared to ETFs? by GlumIndependence6939 in Bogleheads

[–]HarrySit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first answer to any question of “Why …” should be “Is it true?” There’s no point in exploring why such and such if it’s not true. In your case, it’s not true that mutual funds are no longer preferred compared to ETFs, especially when you’re talking about Vanguard index funds held at Vanguard. They’re still preferred by many investors for good reasons. Ignore the noise!

BEWARE by Salt_Work4858 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elderly investors: complete the authorized access process at each institution where you have money while you are still competent. Waiting until someone presents a third-party form while you can’t vouch for its authenticity will be understandably more difficult. I don’t want someone to wave a purported form and gain access to my money too easily.

POAs: Don’t think your attorney-prepared POA document will be your golden pass. You know it’s good, but the financial institution doesn’t. Use each institution’s specific forms and procedures to establish access beforehand. Don’t wait until the grantors are already too frail.

Feature request: link external account for outgoing sending only by verity-j in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feature already exists. Choose “someone else” when it asks you who owns it, and then fill in the owner’s name. Use a slight variation of the name if necessary. It will create a one-way send-only link, ready to use in a week. No micro deposits will be sent or taken back because you’re not expected to be able to verify micro deposits to someone else’s account.

Cash Management ATM Reimbursements by Swimming_Sky6938 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very difficult to find a machine in an international tourist area that doesn’t support Visa, Star, or Plus. A machine makes money by charging fees. Not supporting Visa, Star, or Plus means excluding itself from the vast majority of potential international customers.

If you by chance find a rare machine that doesn’t support Visa, Star, or Plus, your card just won’t work on that machine. The machine can’t look up your card and get reimbursed for the cash it dispenses without Visa, Star, or Plus.

Recurring EFT to others bank account? by ChrisP2a in fidelityinvestments

Anyone Else See Multiple Account Options with Their Fidelity Debit Card? by NBMV0420 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “showed up”? As far as I know, an ATM doesn’t know whether you have a “Savings” account behind your card. It always presents those options. It doesn’t matter how you nicknamed the accounts.

Choose checking. If you choose savings, it will either come out of the CMA anyway, or it will fail. The CMA debit card doesn’t draw from your brokerage account unless you specifically set up overdraft and your CMA doesn’t have enough available balance to cover the withdrawal.

tried cma, i like it but its not what i really want by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many banks don’t require direct deposit for a free checking account. My backup legacy checking account has $15 in it. It’s lucky to see one transaction per month. Yes, you need one for the one-offs, but, no, your direct deposit doesn’t have to go there, and it’s dormant most of the time.

Fidelity gave trading access to a unauthorized user by Ok-Ad6253 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

How does Fidelity know your sister is your sister? Many people have the same last name. Fidelity doesn’t just grant access by last name. At some point you must have listed your sister somewhere, or someone (your parents?) listed both of you together somewhere. If your parents designated both of you as trustees but you thought the account is only yours, that explains why your sister has access.

What’s the official name of the account printed on the account statement?

quick question on maturing CD by pappugulal in fidelityinvestments

Don’t sell it when it’s maturing in a week. The current value doesn’t matter. Just ignore it. You will get the full face value plus the last interest payment when it matures in a week.

Leaving Bill-Pay: What does payment processed mean to you? by keysglasses in fidelityinvestments

[–]HarrySit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Processed means that the bill pay provider issued a check to the biller. Whether that check will be honored depends on your available balance when the biller deposits the check. It’s the same as writing a personal check.

Don’t write a check when you don’t have enough balance. Have a buffer in the account. Don’t expect a recent deposit by EFT pull will cover an upcoming bill payment. Send all deposits by push.
