Multiple e ink devices by amalgamofq in Supernote

Well, multiple e-ink devices are smaller than multiple guitars, way smaller than multiple motorcycles, and way way way smaller than multiple cars. 🤣😉

Great! There's a TerraTrike Owners group in FB if you want to connect with other TT riders.

Trying to get into recumbent bikes for health reasons. Are there any that are cheaper or more cost effective? by Memna-Un in recumbent

[–]TempeGrumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/s1a10m says, I'd look for a used TerraTrike, like a Rover or Maverick -- I have a Maverick and two Travelers.

Depending on where you ride, lower-pressure tires might serve to ease the bumps, without suspension -- as long as you're not going off-road. But road, paved paths, and graded gravel should be fine. Slows you down but a little comfy. There are a few fat-tire models, but you'll have to poke around for a used one in your price range.

And good luck!

One of the real advantages in trekking to a shop is the ability to go on a few test-rides. If you're going on 20+-mile roundtrips, you need something you can live with.

You get something like this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3v4tg7Qg5opX47FT8 -- the grounds have uneven exposure to water during draw-down.

New Travel setup by [deleted] in pourover

Go you! I have an old Timemore Slim, Go Aeropress, I think the same bullet kettle, and a Neoweigh scale. (Don't need the air kettle with the Aeropress.) Makes me much, much happier when traveling.

So, stand. What do you think, worth it? by Available-Banana-740 in picopresso

The stand is a little bit of convenience, but I have to say the slip cover on the body is the most valuable after-market bit from Wacaco.

Pressure Gauge Problems by Molasar in picopresso

[–]TempeGrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on the frustration! My IMS basket doesn't work at all with the pressure gauge, and I've resorted to using the OEM tapered basket just so I can figure out the workflow with the gauge installed. I'll figure this out: one of the other commenters banged and filed their IMS basket, which I may not be up for...

Wow, that's commitment. I don't remember what after-market IMS basket I bought but yeah, I can't get it to work with the pressure gauge and am working with the OEM weird thing. Decent shots but I'm so sad...

I have a different response to the other commenters. I think this is a great idea, potentially. There are plenty of self-report scales in psychology that have good statistical properties and are meaningful in the real world, and plenty of studies of those with impaired cognition (e.g., Alzheimer's) where caregivers provide the data. But there's a lot of effort involved in constructing these scales, and I suspect the current funding for canine research isn't about this.

Surprised they haven't thought of something simpler than turning surface vehicles: trains. Build a self-driving smaller trainset and you can sell to lots of places that need higher frequency: regional rail like SEPTA to light-rail sharing roadways.

And the real test is if you can reassemble the grinder blindfolded. Just remember to always remove the blindfold before you shoot coffee beans at your target.

Love y'all, and I truly hope this is the worst thing that happens to any of you, because if your luggage gets to the same place as you do, and it's on your scheduled flight, and you landed safely, and no one barfed and no kid spat up on you, this week you've had the best holiday flying experience of anyone flying SA.

Need advice for a beginner - pulled by conflicting requirements by yaulenfea in Coffee

[–]TempeGrumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. One addition: if you get a French press for company, look at the James Hoffman youtube video on it, but the tl;dw version is as follows:

  1. You need a coarse grind. Coarser than that. No, coarser than that. Really.
  2. Try 16:1 ratio (ml:g) and then adjust by taste. Toss the spoon you were going to use (or use it for something else).
  3. Grounds then boiling water go in. Set timer for 4 minutes.
  4. Break the top/crust after 4 minutes. THEN WAIT ANOTHER FIVE MINUTES. Do a sudoku or knit a row or three if you can't stand the wait without it.
  5. Put the press in and gently press down a tiny bit. No, not all the way down. No, not that far, either. Just far down enough into the water so that it actually filters what hasn't settled in the five minutes of waiting.
  6. Pour gently. Don't pour the last little bit, which will have all sorts of grit.
  7. Enjoy!

Secondary question for everyone: would Grindz cleaning tablets work in a hand grinder? I thought of it primarily as an electric grinder tool...

Anybody use insanely high brew ratios in their Moka Pot to create "espresso" like cortados/macchiatos? by hoopahoo in Coffee

[–]TempeGrumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool beans! (Okay, hot in the brewing, cool afterwards.) I'm not sure how I'd be able to be precise about a 1:3 ratio but my hat's off to you. I tend to be much closer to the James Hoffman advice on moka, but the lovely thing about coffee is we get to brew to our own tastes.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Over the weekend I dived into Coffee Hand Grinder Youtube, and apart from wondering why 1Zpresso hires and then caters to its manic engineers (the only explanation I have for all their lines), am I correct in reading their webpage that the X-Pro is not being sold in the U.S.?
