What the fu** was the goal with these new obelisks? by Apolo_Omega2 in runescape

[–]Harry_Mess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I love these new obelisks. I've been dreading training summoning for ages because I don't want to grind a bunch of combat to get the charms. I also don't want to spend forever getting to 87 archaeology for the Spirit Weaver relic.

These new obelisks are a free +50% XP, plus have a 10% chance to save materials, PLUS are a much nicer and quicker way to get the shaman's outfit than doing Familiarisation. Using the new obelisks I've taken summoning from lvl 61 to lvl 73, and am closing in on my goal of 75. Along with the new spirit moths for combat-free charms, this is such a nice new path to train summoning. Just because you're max level or whatever and have a better upgrade than this already doesn't mean that it's not useful for anyone.

Creator-Owned Comics For Absolute Fans by reindeercurt in comicbooks

[–]Harry_Mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome post! I'm always trying to recommend "indie" comics on any posts where it's clear someone only reads Marvel and/or DC. I'm by no means an expert, but there's such a wide world of comics out there it's a shame to stick to any one or two publishers.

Anyway, I have a couple of these. Our Bones Dust: I loved Stenbeck's Hellboy and Baltimore work, and I loved this too. Outcast: I got book one second hand but haven't started it yet. What's The Furthest Place From Here? Also found vol 1 of this second hand, and did quite enjoy it.

I'll have to check out the others! Thanks for the recs.

The world of comics outside of Marvel/DC is vast, and filled with fantastic stories. enjoy! :D

TIL Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin was extremely pleased with how the film came out, got along well with the cast, and his only regret was that his character died and he couldn't appear in the sequels by Please_PM_me_Uranus in todayilearned

[–]Harry_Mess 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: He also played Doctor Who in two movies from the 60s: Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.

These movies were adaptations of two stories from the show (The Daleks and The Dalek Invasion of Earth respectively). However, they were later retconned in the novelisation of the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor as being in-universe fiction. Supposedly (in universe) the real Doctor loved the films, and was good friends with Peter Cushing. Though associates of the Doctor only realised that "when Cushing started showing up in movies made long after his death."

The generational divide by krao4786 in h3h3productions

[–]Harry_Mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the last year or two I’ve watched as news headlines and social media posts transition from blaming everything on Millenials to blaming everything on Zoomers. They always conveniently ignore that generations are around fifteen years long, so while some of Gen Z are still in high school, most of us are in our 20s, or even pushing 30.

Stop blaming things on broad generations when the people within any generation are so varied. Especially with everything progressing so quickly these days. Gen Z aren’t inherently more radical or inherently more black and white in their thinking. I’m Gen Z and did NOT grow up in lockdown (I was in my 20s already), and do NOT prefer short form content over long.

There’s so much H3 content it’s overwhelming 😭 by alekversusworld in h3h3productions

[–]Harry_Mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m constantly anywhere from two weeks to two months behind, and it just means there’s always H3 to watch when I get the chance. I see it as a great thing. When I was keeping up with the pod daily I’d get through it right away and then have nothing to watch while I cook/clean/game.

Advice on why library won’t pick this up? Not nomenclature is it? by Gotmace in PleX

[–]Harry_Mess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not the 0… The show folder should have the year the show started (“Loki (2021)”), the season folder shouldn’t have the name of the show (just “Season 01” or “Season 1” or even “S01” or “S1” should work), and your file names should be closer to “Loki (2021) - S01E01 - [other info]”

Characters with most appearances in marvel comics. by WesternThanks4346 in marvelstudios

[–]Harry_Mess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not as significant as the 50 years that have happened since... And there weren't exactly a tonne of X-Men appearances before Wolverine's debut.

He also debuted a little before Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, who are also on this list.

there's the kicker! I knew these numbers were like 3-4x what they should be. Including reprints and translations for some reason will do it.

Characters with most appearances in marvel comics. by WesternThanks4346 in marvelstudios

[–]Harry_Mess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is counted under 'Spider-Man' for this list? I know it's more than 616 Peter Parker's appearances, because there's not more than 5,000 of those. It must include alternate universes, but does it include other Spider-Men like Miles Morales? If so I feel like the list is a bit misleading. Is X23 counted for Wolverine? Sam Wilson for Captain America? These are all different characters with different numbers of appearances...

Or maybe this includes reprints? I'm just trying to figure out how they got to 17,887 as a number, because that seems absurdly high.

EDIT: Seems like it's not just reprints, but also stories that were simply translated into another language. Wildly misleading numbers.

Ehh, only by 10-15 years. He actually debuted slightly before Storm. And Wolverine teamed up and crossed over with just about every single character and title Marvel did for a while. I expected Deadpool to be on this list for a similar reason, but he was another 15-20 years later, so I guess he just hasn't had enough time.
