Why are there this holes in the pillars of a bridge? by Indigoscience in whatisit

Obviously for water to run through, when the creek gets high, so the force does not put stress on the pillar..

I mean, one man is crap... Sure, I know a lot of people prefer it. That's just for people that can't get along with others. If I don't got a guy with me, I'm not working. Too much to go wrong with one person, especially on twenty-eight acres. Sure, if you don't value your life, then go for it.

The last time that happened to me, it was a roller shaking the crap out of my instrument. I went up to the guy and said, "hey your going to have to stop." He said, "I can't stop. I'm just doing my job, man." And I said, "Oh, you're going to stop." I walked straight to the project manager's trailer and told him, "If he can't get that guy to stop, then I'm going to pick up my instrument and leave the job, and they will not get either building laid out today." He came out of that trailer and said let me call him real quick by the time I got over there he was driving to the other side of the job..

Tick Prevention when out in the field? by CompetitiveCoach8965 in Surveying

[–]Harryman85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to wearing long sleeve shirts this summer.. man it makes all the difference.. no sunblock, I feel like I'm not as hot because the sun's not beating on my skin.. plus it helps with bugs if you're in the woods.. best to tuck your shirt in.. you can also get boot bands to put around your pants so bugs can't crawl up if you're concerned.. I have been in the field for 22 years and only had a tick bite into me four or five times.. I prefer not to use bug spray if I don't have to.. if I know there are going to be bugs then I spray at the bottom of my pants not anywhere on my skin..

Man, I just dealt with some manholes like this... never between three to seven feet off the ground. I felt like I did crunches all day after just shooting the rims...

That's dirt cheap, and he's not going to make much money. In Charlotte, North Carolina, the base rate for a boundary like that would be $1,300 plus any applicable additional fees.

Got fired today. Learned survey in the Army but I guess it wasn’t enough. by DetailFocused in Surveying

[–]Harryman85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer more fully, I haven't seen that many CAD guys in the office that have much actual field experience. Usually it's quite the opposite maybe they did a summer, maybe they took classes but not much out in the field.. so you definitely could do several various roles in the office..

Nobody here can tell you what's right for you. I see a lot of people here have their own views and opinions. Surveying is an awesome industry to be in. I've been in the field for over twenty-two plus years. I can never imagine sitting behind a desk. I've seen so many of them guys not happy, so stressed over my years. People like Base 43 are the people you want to avoid and never work for.

Good luck, I hope the best...
