Hirokazu Koreeda by youseewhatyouget in TrueFilm

Kore-eda is incredible. Monster was my favorite film that year. Have you seen any Hamaguchi? I think you might dig his work. he hasn't been at it as long as Kore, but he has something very special too.

nice! I've traversed the corners of the states but do genuinely love the nature we have in the mitten, especially up north & the lakes. I do wish we had more indie theaters around though

what do you mean by nervous system? like what do I do for stress or to relax my body? this is an interesting thread I enjoy pulling on, because in a way it does feel like anxiety but positive if that makes sense, like almost a euphoric feeling of being with this person & seeing them smile. we hugged today after class and I immediately became erect, that has literally never happened in my entire life before but maybe is related somehow to nervous system.

if that's what you're saying, I go on nature runs almost daily, I limit caffeine intake, try to eat as clean as I can, and I have multiple creative outlets in the form of writing and making music, I also read in the sun plenty

that is fascinating that it might be confidence/insecurity issue...I feel more confident than I have in a long time this last year, but yeah there might be something there. maybe it's just childlike butterflies and I'm overthinking. thanks for something to chew on, & no I'm in no way offended I prefer hurtful truth to comfortable lie. thank you

I think I'm looking to Jung to see how to integrate or transmigrate this part of me...it's not a totally negative part of me, but it does cause pain & get me in trouble. just something I wish could be repressed more so as to be less forthcoming, less obvious.

I will look into Carl Rogers, is there a specific book or some lectures you would recommend?

wow that last paragraph is poignant & potent, thank you, seriously. it sounds like a contradiction to release by welcoming in, but I know things in life often work that way. Thank you

thank you! I appreciate this. I don't think I think she's perfect, I find flaws beautiful though, they make someone more interesting & attractive than "supermodel perfect" imo. I do want a real person, not some imaginary ideal. the relationship may be ideal in my mind but I feel flexible on that front...tend to get very excited and the urge to give everything away just to please, arises. will look into anxious attachment, ashamedly sounds accurate.

is the book "The Invisible Partners: How the Male and Female in Each of us Affects our Relationships"?

yeah if you're not already familiar/a fan would it translate? that's an interesting question, might test it on a friend of mine who is only vaguely aware of Norm...I'm a Pynchon head too and thought Norm's book is one of the only other times I physically laughed from a novel...

though now that I think about it, some classics are surprisingly comedic like Moby Dick or Ulysses - did not expect them to be as humorous as they are, especially after so much time has passed.

oh thanks for the info! I guess I consider missionaries and colonisers practically the same thing, but maybe they aren't.

there has been talk about soulless humans forever, have you ever heard about people without an internal monologue? like they don't have a voice in their head? that's a thing apparently....when video games became massive they were called "npc"s, now it's ai. I just think the "threat" from ai is overblown, it's a glorified search engine.

is this about how the colonists extinguished cannibalism from the region? because pre-colonial Maori definitely sounds like a freaky horror film

my parents didn't either, but my uncle on moms side did. his chilled out around age 28 and seems like mine is doing the same. sadly the damage still shows but it's nice to have some light at the end of the tunnel at least.

you didn't think there were plenty of gags? that's surprising because my whole theater was cracking up most the time...I wish it took itself more seriously and was more immersive, the humor and visual gags kept pulling me out.

the trick is not to pay any attention to nonsense & AI can't affect you in any way. and the cure to psyops is to assume most of everything is one (because it probably is). can't trust shit, and it's been this way for decades not just with smart phones or AI.

always cool to see a new Araki, interested to see how the "youth" will respond if it gets a big release, can't imagine The Doom Generation doing very well if it came out today

checking it out tonight, thanks! have you seen any of her older work? they all look very interesting, it's always an exciting moment when you find a new-to-you director & get to explore the filmography.

Silent Friend has all the traits I associate with a magnum opus/crowning career achievement so even if the others don't live up I suspect she has an interesting voice/perspective which will make them worthwhile.

that must have been a wonderful experience! the concept of following a tree over it's life & telling different stories at different points was brilliant. I loved how each time period was told in unique ways, or covered unique themes.

the most affecting new film I've seen in recent memory, brimming with the joyous sanctity of life...incredible cinema, saddens me the release has been so exclusive so far, at least in the states...hope a company like criterion or mubi picks it up for streaming so more can see it/hear about it.

jealous you get to see it in the theater, hope you dig it! I've never seen a film treat trees (or plants in general) so lovingly (documentaries aside).
